Fabulous place but not big enough for maximum capacity
We had a fantastic stay at Oakerthorpe. The location was beautiful and the holiday village was the perfect setting. Everything had been thought about and Farmer Vic and (I think) his son were superb for our entire stay. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with a smile on their face.
The football pitch, park and animal area were loved by the kids and the BBQ area was great for a get together.
Every detail in the house had been thought about and kitted out to a really high standard.
As other reviews have said, my only negative was I do not believe the house was big enough for 16 people as stated. The bedrooms are fine (a little squished when the extra beds are added but that’s to be expected) but the living space is just not adequate. As the lounge is on the first floor, you cannot even use the courtyard as extra space.
There is an open plan dining room/ kitchen area/ lounge but it was a similar size to what I’d expect in a two bed house. There was only lounge seating for 6 people and there was no cupboard space in the kitchen for food or drink. The fridge freezer was tiny and they only had a slimline dishwasher.
I would not hesitate to stay at Oakerthorpe again but not with the maximum capacity as it just wasn’t big enough.
Thanks for a fabulous stay!
The property was nice but there was some development being carried out on site.
We had a lovely time but were slightly put out by the possible £25 charge for use of BBQ facilities and there was a strong smell of cow poo a lot of the time, I know it's the country side but this was a bit above what you would expect, perhaps it was due to the very hot weather? However everyone was very friendly.
Amazing venue, great family meet up
We are parents of 4 adult daughters all married or with partners and 3 with little boys all under 2yrs. We live around the country and struggle to all get together at the same time but this venue was perfect. The little boys absolutely loved farmer Vic's feeding time with the animals and to have the farm and playground on tap was just great. We did't have to all get in the car and go somewhere to entertain them. We enjoyed lunch on the picnic tables and the boys had a paddling pool up in the courtyard as the weather was glorious. The accommodation is of a very good standard and we lacked nothing, my only reservation is the communal area isn't big enough for the amount of people the house sleeps. There is only sofa space for 6 and the kitchen prep area was on the small side when we were catering for so many. Thank you so much, everyone had a lovely time, we will be back!!!!
A fantastic base for us to meet with family. Location stunning, cottage amazing! We loved it.
We stayed at the Old Milking Parlour and had a fantastic time. It was a short getaway for us to spend quality time with family. Although there was 14 of us it didn’t feel cramped or we didn’t have enough room. The detail in each of the rooms is clear to see and the views are stunning. A wonderful home from home. Great location to visit other places and a real treat to come back to your own hot tub! Our girls loved joining Farmer Vic to feed the animals - he was so kind to them - and they had a magical time. Right from the start when we booked it, to coming home the service provided has been brilliant. We will definitely look to come back. Regards Jane & family April 2018
A very well appointed property, perfect for our family get together.
We very much enjoyed our weekend stay in the Old Milking Parlour which was great accomodation for all our families. The children especially had fun with Farmer Vic feeding the animals and collecting eggs from the chickens.
