Beachside Chalet No1 is approached from a residential road, offering a safe and peaceful environment. The quiet village of Gurnard sits west along the coast from the bustling internationally renown yachting town of Cowes.
HISTORY - The chalet is one of a row built in the 1930s on the waterfront for holiday use. They have been slowly modernised over the decades with some still very much as they were when originally built giving the area a feel reminiscent of times gone by. The charm of this unique little area of the Island owes a lot to the planning restrictions keeping redevelopment of these chalets to a strict character code of single storey, pastel coloured shiplap cladding, pitched roofs, porches and low picket fencing. The Marsh is clearly defined at one end by a delightful little bridge over a water inlet, The Luck, home to a cluster of small fishing boats. At the other end stands a gentle hill leading up to the village pub and shop.
During WW2, A Sergeant was accommodated in Chalet 1, and the other chalets accommodated the wrens who operated the anti aircraft search lights. After the war, these chalets were used as holiday accommodation. Over the decades, most of the chalets on the other side of the road have been rebuilt, but most on the sea side are still original, but updated with modern conveniences, giving the area a feel reminiscent of times gone by.
OUR CHALET fronts onto a large lawned area with direct access to the beach. The lack of fencing between the chalets allows for an open an friendly feel, though Chalet No1 has its own picket fenced garden from which to enjoy the sea views more privately. We have recently removed the front fence panel (in the photos) in order to improve the view.
The quiet beach in front of the property changes with every high tide; mostly shingle with patches of sand and groynes of natural rock. The yachting activity in the Solent ensures a constant changing scenery. Varied and glorious sun sets over the water will take your breath away. You will never bore of watching this particular part of the world go by.
The chalet renovations have been designed to make most use out of all the space. The one room accommodates living, dining, kitchen galley and a cosy nook for the standard double bed. A wet room with toilet, shower, basin and electric towel rail is off this main room. Clever storage solutions throughout allow the area to feel clutter free.
The emphasis for a holiday in this chalet is to 'get away from it all'. With this in mind, there is no television or high fi system. If you wish to be entertained, bring your laptop to connect to our wi-fi free of charge, and your own radio or iPod dock for your iPod.
There is off road parking and bicycle storage is available on request. The bus service is only twice a day, with the nearest bus stop servicing 4 buses an hour to Newport and Cowes, about 15 mins walk. Walking into Cowes takes about 40 mins. Walking to the village shop and pub takes about 8 mins. There is a cafe/restaurant on the coast within 5 mins walk west, another within 10 mins walk east. Depending on your mobility, you may find bringing a car to the Island useful.
HEATING - there is a log effect electric fan for instant heat, and an electric oil radiator for more permanent background heat.
ELECTRIC - This is charged at cost: the meter is read before your booking and then again afterwards. As a guide, our winter guests using the heater use approx £2.50 per day including the standing charge; our summer guests a lot less. A separate electric deposit is requested at the time of booking; you will be returned the balance not used, within 14 days of the end of your booking.
MOBILITY - The chalet is on one level, but due to the limited space inside, it is probably unsuitable for wheelchair users. If you are particularly tall or big, you might the bed nook and shower area awkward.
CHILDREN - The chalet is really only suitable for a maximum of 2 people. If you have a baby, you could bring your own travel cot, but this would take up most of the floor space.
DAMAGE DEPOSIT - A £150.00 damage deposit is requested, and will need to be paid for at the time of booking. It is returned within 14 days of the end of your booking via bacs.
DOGS - Dogs are welcome, but must be kept off all furniture for health, hygiene and allergy reasons. If you like your dog to sleep with you in your bed, this is not the property for you.
WARNING - The chalet is tiny, just 4m x 4m. Although the bed is a standard double, it is set in an alcove; if you are very tall or big, you might find it uncomfortable.
SMOKING - No smoking inside the chalet.

I am a professional landlord with a mixed portfolio of long term rentals and holiday lets. I live next door to Beachside chalet.
Something a little different from the norm. A charming little gem in quite a unique part of the world.
Not many properties come this close to the sea!
Very well equipped and decorated to high proportions
In a lovely location
My hubby and I were looking for a peaceful relaxing holiday , the beach house delivered this exactly , if you are looking to re charge your batteries this is the perfect location
Views across the Solent and local walks were lovely
The only noise we heard all week was the gentle lapping of the water as the tide came in
Lots of wildlife around and boats on the Solent to while away some lazy hours
We really enjoyed this beach chalet. It is tastefully decorated and has everything in place to make a comfortable stay, we felt it was like a little retreat. It is a compact space but has lots of storage. We loved the setting, and enjoyed the walk between Gurnard and Cowes. There were lots of good places to eat all within walking distance. If you want time to wind down and relax this is the place to stay.
We found this little gem at short notice after being very dissapointed with accommodation we had booked. Kuki confirmed our booking and we arrived the next morning and it was everything and more of what we expected. Beautiful location, Lovely not having a TV or radio complete relaxation. Attention to detail is amazing. Can't wait to go back again.
There is only a twice daily bus service close to the chalet, so bringing your own car is advisable.
