Avoch is located on the Black Isle, approximately 20 minutes North East of Inverness on the Inner Moray Firth. Number 8 – Avoch is situated in the old Fisher town where the close packed streets are a reminder of the days when the fishing boats were hauled into the street to protect them during bad weather. A very short walk from Number 8 – Avoch takes you into the village centre where you can find a convenience store, cash point, hairdresser, post office & general store (selling your post cards, logs and warm socks etc). If you don’t feel like cooking at home the village boasts an Indian, Chinese and Fish & chip take away. The village is on the regular bus route to Inverness.
Turning left from Number 8-Avoch takes you to the picturesque shore front where you can visit the harbour, book your dolphin watch boat trip, or enjoy a sundowner on the sea wall whilst watching the sun set. A walk or cycle along the old railway line to Fortrose provides an opportunity for some fresh air, spotting the views, visiting the Brahan Seer stone and occasional berry picking. On your arrival in Fortrose you can quench your thirst, or enjoy a nice lunch before a walk around the Cathedral and Harbour. Chanonry Point is a recognised view point where you can spend a few hours watching the dolphins. Just a few miles further along you come to the village of Rosemarkie, sporting an amazing sandy beach where you may be lucky to find a fossil or two. The long sandy beach is ideal for stretching your legs or rock pooling. If you just want to enjoy the view and an ice cream or coffee the Beach Café will oblige.
Learnie Red Rock, around a 10 minute drive from Number 8-Avoch, offers graded mountain bike tracks, dirt bike jumping and walks. Visit their website for information of bike rentals. Not far away is Fairy Glen where you can walk alongside the waterfalls – you may be lucky enough to spot a Red Kite, squirrels or deer. Both Cromarty and Fortrose offer active Sailing Clubs where you can try your hand at dinghy or keel boat sailing. Golf, links bowling and tennis are also available with easy reach of Number 8 –Avoch.
Cromarty offers great walks and during summer months you can catch the car ferry across to Nigg and venture further north to visit Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain. Cromarty has very popular venues for meeting friends, enjoying a meal or a coffee and admiring the art and handcrafts.
Leaving Avoch and heading back towards Inverness gives you access via the A9 to the wider Highland tourist sites such as Loch Ness, Skye, Nairn, and the North.
Accommodation & Facilities
Entrance Hall – providing access to Lounge, Dining Room and staircase to upper floor.
Lounge – comfortable space with a three piece suite, wood burning fire, TV/DVD with FreeSat, Bluetooth music speaker.
Kitchen – A large fully fitted dining kitchen with seating for 4 offering integrated oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. A full complement of crockery, pots, pans, cutlery is available. The kitchen is accessed from the lounge by a narrow doorway and two steps.
W.C with wash hand basin.
Utility room – Washing machine, Upright freezer, ironing board, iron, washline & pegs, clothes airers. The Utility rooms is accessed from the lounge and has a step.
Dining room – Table with seating for 6, bookcases with various DVD’s, books and games.
Bedroom 1 – king size bed, chest of drawers
Bedroom 2 – double bed, built-in wardrobe
Bedroom 3 – double bed, chest of drawers and hanging space All bedrooms have bedside lighting
Bathroom – w.c, wash hand basin, shower cubicle. Hot water is heated by an immersion heater.
Outside – a small, enclosed, paved back yard with a table, two benches and potted plants. A wonderful area to relax after a days outing.
All bed linen, towels, electricity and heating oil is included in the price.
The cottage is stocked with a starter supply of washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, toilet rolls and other kitchen and bathroom supplies. For additional supplies and groceries there is a convenience store, open most evenings until 10pm, 100 metres away at the top of the road.
A deposit of 25% of the total tariff is requested in advance. The balance is payable 6 weeks prior to the commencement of your holiday (or by arrangement for short notice bookings).
Check in time is anytime after 4pm with check out at 11am.

A refundable security deposit of £100 will be required as part of your final balance payment.

We, as a family of 5, stayed for a weekend. It was a good basis to go and explore the region.
The house was surprisingly located in a calm neighbourhood.
We had to adapt to the low ceilings in the house.
Further, no special remarks.
Had a fabulous 6 nights in this comfy home from home. The cottage had all we needed to make our stay comfortable and well catered for.
The location was a superb base from which to explore the Bobby Black Isle. I hope to return one day.
From the moment of arrival it was apparent that every attention to detail had been made to ensure we had a comfortable stay.
The cottage is beautifully presented, spacious, light. airy and warm - very welcoming.
Refurbished to a very high standard. Each room is tastefully furnished and decorated with good quality furnishings and fabrics. 3 double beds, all very comfortable with good quality linen and towels provided.
Situated in the heart of the village, all amenities are within walking distance.
Probably the best value for money in the village.
We'll certainly be back.

A very charming clean and comfortable cottage in a great location on the Black Isle near Inverness.
It is close to Channery Point for Dolphin spotting.
