Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, sleeps 4-5

Located in the heart of the Green Mountains on ten acres. Mountain views and remote feel, but only 20 minutes from Warren/Waitsfield area or 10 minutes to Rochester. Ski or snowshoe out the back door or cozy up and watch movies on home theater with over 200 movies. New, with all the modern amenities, but done in classic cabin style. Enjoy walking/sledding on site or hiking the nearby Long Trail, then a relaxing hot tub under the stars. 15 mins to Middlebury Snow Bowl, 25 mins to Sugarbush and Mad River Glen or 45 to Killington. Great swimming, kayaking, etc. Perfect any season!

Size limitations: The cabin is 850 sq ft. so not designed for large groups. It is one large space downstairs and two separate bedrooms above. It has a much larger feel than it's size indicates however, due to a two story loft above. There is also a generously sized mud room/entry with a heated floor to dry out ski boots and stow gear. It is therefore best suited for couples or small families who are looking for a well designed and appointed quality cabin. Anyone looking for a traditional Vermont experience will certainly enjoy the areas offerings and the warmth and intimacy provided in the cabin.

4wd Car recommendation: It is recommended that you have a 4wd car or truck in the winter.

About Jeff

Jeff is a Boston architect/contractor and resident of Concord for 20 years. He designed and restored the cabin on his own, working weekends over the course of three years. Initially, his wife was very reluctant, but once done, she is now the cabin's biggest fan. As it was designed and built for his family, Jeff has left no detail undone.

Jeff purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Jeff chose Granville

This area of Vermont is close enough to Boston (less than 3 hours), yet far enough to be in the heart of pristine Vermont. Jeff has been coming to this area since the mid 1970's and dreamed of having a retreat here for 35 years. Skiing is only 15-30 minutes away, and several romantic villages are nearby, giving endless options to explore and enjoy. Being on 10 acres and in Granville, it is also very private and peaceful. Often we just spend the weekend there, relaxing and basking in the cabin's great light and warmth.

What makes this cabin unique

Although the existing cabin was in sad repair, Jeff saw the potential, the views, and had the vision, tools and skills to make it happen. It is now our favorite place to be and we have established many great relationships there. It is a very active and engaging community, which we love being a part of and welcome others to share in, too!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Jeff.

We can't thank you enough for providing us with lodging that is so comfortable and with such nice amenities. After playing tourist during our stay last summer, we stuck a bit closer to home this time. Highlights were finding the swimming holes at Warren Falls and across from Newtons, Sunset Hike and local farmer's markets. Everything we ventured out to do was great fun! Also, it was wonderful to have our dog, Ginger along. Thinking we are hearty Southerners, who have endured a terrifically hot summer thus far, we did not believe we would need the A/C in Vermont, but I must confess that we broke down and used it one evening. We were so thankful for it!

We really appreciate everything!

Notes:
92'' front screen projection TV that turns the living room into a home movie theater. Over 200 DVD's as well as Direct TV carrying the major networks, sports channels, etc. Recommend four wheel drive (or AWD) vehicle in winter for local roads and driveway. We now have wireless broadband internet service at the cabin, but you'll need your own computer. There is currently AT&T cell phone service in Granville, but Verizon can be gotten 10 minutes away. Living room has a gas stove which resembles a wood stove, but is much safer and cleaner to operate.

Great cabin in private/quiet location, minutes from some of the best hiking trails !

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this charming cabin! Great kitchen with everything needed to cook or bake (we are vegan & find it easier to make most of our meals)! Really neat design of cabin (new build with vintage ski lodge decor), we (& our 2 dogs) loved the huge window seat with cushions & cozy gas fireplace. We explored along route VT-100, hiked to the summit of Mount Abraham & Burnt Rock Mountain - tough hikes with views of Green Mountains, Lake Champlain, Adirondacks ! We also explored the trails from the property on top of the hill. We bought fresh organic veggies almost everyday at the East Warren Market along snacks & delicious local made salad dressing (this is a great local market, little pricey but good options for vegan or organic) North of the cabin location along VT-100, the small towns of Warren and Waitsfield are worth exploring for local eats & small shops. During our stay, the temps were in the 90s which is not usual for VT. It was too hot for the hot tub, great option though for cooler temps! We slept downstairs on sofa & window seat (upstairs bedroom was too hot, had small window AC but our dogs were too scared of the spiral staircase to get upstairs) We cooled off with drinking tons of water, the well water on the property is so cold and refreshing !! About 3.4 miles north on VT-100, we cooled off with our dogs in the waterfalls (Moss Glen Fall) - very clean and beautiful spot that does get busy with locals at times. We used the washer/dryer for our beach towels/hiking clothes. Don’t pack too much as this place has everything. Not too much storage space (we used the mudroom for our gear, packs, dog crates and duffle bags). Everything in the cabin is labeled/easy to use. Extra fans would have been great to help with the heat (we found one small old fan upstairs and used it every day, along with the ceiling fan). Overall a great place to stay, we & our two dogs (GSP hound mix & Boston terrier) loved our Vermont vacation & are planning to return !

What a great week!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week here at the cabin. There's so much to do there that rain or shine you're having fun no matter what! Everything you need and much more. Movies on a rainy day and the beautiful property and lots of things to do in the area. And so private! We particularly enjoyed riding the ski lift up Sugarbush and hiking around. Between that and the restaurant at the bottom it was like we had the mountain to ourselves. Thank you Jeff and the family for sharing this wonderful experience you've created. We will stay again if we are back in the area. Erin, Dede and The Furg.

Cozy, Relaxing Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the privacy and coziness the cabin had to offer. We really didn’t want to leave. Campfires and movies at night, hikes and adventures during the day. Perfect place for a relaxing weekend. Definitely would like to return again. Thank you for sharing your home.

Fabulous cabin in excellent location to tour/hike/relax

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was everything and more than we expected. Well stocked for cooking/bbq. Outdoor hot-tub was brilliant. Not overlooked by other properties and very peaceful.

Movie cinema was terrific with large choice of films. Impressed by speed of wi-fi....much better than at home!!!

Jeff was very responsive to any questions pre-visit and provided excellent information on cabin/area.

If we were visiting the area again we would definitely try to book.

Peaceful perfect little gem

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stay for week during “spring vacation” from school. However it was more like a winter break, snow, freezing rain, coldy windy weather the whole duration of our stay. We found many fun and relaxing activities to do inspire of the cold weather. Each and everyday we went on hikes around the wonderful property with our two dogs. We also loved the perfect set of the movie theater each evening, the hot tube numberous times a day lol. Or just relaxing on the window bed with a book or coloring/drawing.

We hope to return to this great little cabin in the woods very soon! Thank you, Jeff & family for sharing your cabin with us

Lovely, cozy and relaxing family time

  • 5 of 5

My partner and our two kids and dog loved staying here for 5 nights. Everything is well organized and explained. Beds are comfortable and the whole place is well done. We enjoyed the hot tub and grill after hiking nearby and on some days we just hiked right on the property. Movie screen is fantastic with surround sound. The kids really enjoyed that part. It snowed one day and it made everything look more magical. Wish we brought our sled! 4 wheel drive would have helped on the steep driveway. :) Jeff was always available via phone and text to answer questions. Highly recommend this place.
