Perfect place for a group holiday
Everything was just perfect at Brownber House. We are a group of hillwalkers doing the Coast to Coast walk, and everything got off to a great start when we arrived in a warm, cosy house to find a cake and tea things to welcome us. The house is well-equipped, spacious, comfortable, warm and with plenty of hot water for everyone. The games room is a great facility. It is in a lovely location, with local walks and a short drive from the pub in Ravenstonedale (we went to the Kings Arms - very good). Small shops in Orton are 7 miles away (including a fantastic chocolate shop) and the larger town of Kirkby Stephen about 6 miles.
Great family sized house
We spent a weekend with extended family in Brownber House, 11 of us altogether.
It was fantastic, providing us with plenty of room. The house was clean, warm and very well equipped. The surrounding area is beautiful and we did a couple of stunning walks. We would definitely stay again.
Fantastic place for a family celebration weekend
There were 12 of us with ages from 19 to 82. The house was everything we expected with plenty of room for everyone - you don't really get a sense of how much space there is from the photos. Great location too! Thoroughly recommended.
A beautiful house in a perfect location
A family break, 4 nights, with an elderly grandmother, a 3 year old grandson and 2 sons and wives.
The house was very spacious and spotlessly clean with many combinations of bedrooms.
A lovely welcoming touch of homemade chocolates and milk. The heating was on when we arrived and woodburners layed. The kitchen was very well equipped and bathrooms very clean.
Litini, the owner, popped over in the evening to welcome us and check we had everything.
There was an excellent games room with a pool table, table tennis, darts and table football. We all had fun playing these and as the weather wasn't very good spent a good deal of our time challenging each other. There were also many indoor games, jigsaws and books.
We had 4 dogs between us and the garden was quite acceptable for letting them have a run. The location of the house was perfect for a number of walks from the house.
We had a very enjoyable long weejend spending quality time with the family.
Thank you Litini and Ruth.
Spacious, rural cottage that was perfect for our getaway!
The cottage was huge.. so many different areas to access and a great games room. The cottage was well stocked with kitchen amenities as well as books, dvds and board games. The views are magnificent and it's lovely and quiet. We stated for a weekend and didn't leave the cottage. One thing to be aware of is that there are no takeaways that deliver and taxis need to be booked in advance!
Fantastic house in amazing location for a family getaway
Absolutely loved our stay here. All our needs were met. Pictures don't show just how big the house actually is, loads of room for our family of 12. Owners were extremely helpful and sorted out any issues we had immediately. We also found those living nearby to be extremely friendly. Would love to return one day.
The tranquil village of Newbiggin-on-Lune lies at the foot of the Howgill Fells, quietly sitting between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. It is a delightful rural village with a thriving local community and many traditional old dwellings. Hill farming is the principal means of income in the area and an agricultural show is still held once a year on the fells, echoing the markets and shows of days gone by. The local river, the Lune for which the village was named, is very popular for trout fishing. Nearby Ravenstonedale, once described by Wainwright as one of Westmorland’s loveliest villages, boasts three pubs, all serving fine ales and modern cuisine. The area offers many walking and cycling routes, both on and off road, whilst the nearby attractions provide something for everybody. Visit the Settle to Carlisle Railway Line, the magnificent Howgill Fells and the stunning Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks. A superb location at any time of the year.
