Most of the furniture and fittings have been customised entirely by myself so has a real personal feel. The cottage is not far from Lancaster, Settle, Skipton, Clitheroe and South Lakes - it is in an enviable spot of Lancashire. This partner has demonstrated and is committed to fast response times, the best rates, and a great guest experience.
My husband retired early so we decided that we would travel the world and took 6 months off. We stayed in so many hotels at the beginning and decided we never wanted to stay in one again as they are really cold and have no personality. For the rest of our trip we stayed in self catering places run by locals and loved meeting the people and seeing the country from a different perspective. We always said if we had the chance to run something like this we would love to take the chance and do it.
Paula purchased this cottage in 2014
It is a Grade 2 listed cottage in the picturesque Forest of Bowland. We needed to completely renovate the cottage and did this ourselves with help from professionals where needed. The cottage is our love and joy and just what we would like to stay in on any of our travels.
The views are picturesque and it is in a beautiful part of Lancashire we call it the hidden gem. The cottage is not far from Lancaster, Clitheroe, Settle, Skipton. It is also only a 2 minute walk from the award winning Parkers Arms which is regularly talked about in The Times/Sunday Times for its outstanding food. The cottage is also in a dark skies accredited site so if you are a star gazer then this cottage is definitely for you
Absolutely loved staying at the cottage. Has everything we would need and more. Owners are brilliant and made us feel so welcome. We cannot wait to return in the future. Thank You so much for making our weekend away so memorable
Newton in Bowland is a great setting for this cottage. It was well equipped and the bed was very comfortable, we had no complaints sleeping on it for 5 nights. Mike and Paula are great to deal with.
We were looking for a good base to explore the area and where we could indulge our love of walking/peak climbing. The cottage was a real find at short notice and for the dates we wanted. The property has been sensitively adapted to retain some lovely period features yet still provides a comfortable living space with modern facilities. The wood burner is fabulous for cooler evenings and the kitchen is well equipped with everything you would need during your stay. When self catering I tend to take everything bar the kitchen sink, but you can safely leave washing up supplies and store cupboard staples at home as they're provided. Mike and Paula made contact with us ahead of our stay and welcomed us in person on arrival to help us familiarise ourselves with the cottage, the village and the surrounding area. There isn't a shop in the village but the owners are happy to organise a welcome pack for their visitors. Bread, milk and water were provided gratis - a lovely touch! We celebrated our wedding anniversary with a lovely meal mid-week at the Parkers Arms. The menu isn't too extensive but the food is delicious and the service friendly and welcoming. Well worth a visit during your stay. All in all, the School House Cottage offers a superb base and a great night's sleep in a lovely location within the beautiful Forest of Bowland.
Excellent centre for visiting our family and very comfortable and peaceful, just what we needed. Will be back.
We have just got back from a lovely, relaxing long weekend at The School House Cottage. The cottage was so comfortable and cosy and the surrounding area is beautiful. All the thoughtful extras were lovely and we wanted for nothing. Thank you so much Paula. It was a lovely weekend.
Comfy cottage, everything you need and lots of thoughtful extras. Newton is lovely and peaceful. Perfect for walking and cycling in forest of bowland and close to dales for day trips. Too much to do in one week
The cottage is in the Forest of Bowland only a couple of miles from the Trough of Bowland. We are also within a short distance of the market towns of Settle, Skipton and Clitheroe. The Lakes district is within an hours drive from the cottage through wonderful countryside. There is an award winning pub just 2 minutes walk from the cottage The Parkers Arms and within a 10 minute drive is The Inn at Whitewell which is said where the Queen had her first pint. There are a number of fabulous walks direct from the cottage doorstop. Gisburn Forest is only a short cycle ride away which has amazing bike trails - it is a wonderful part of the countryside.
