About Paula

My husband retired early so we decided that we would travel the world and took 6 months off. We stayed in so many hotels at the beginning and decided we never wanted to stay in one again as they are really cold and have no personality. For the rest of our trip we stayed in self catering places run by locals and loved meeting the people and seeing the country from a different perspective. We always said if we had the chance to run something like this we would love to take the chance and do it.

Paula purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Paula chose Ribble Valley

It is a Grade 2 listed cottage in the picturesque Forest of Bowland. We needed to completely renovate the cottage and did this ourselves with help from professionals where needed. The cottage is our love and joy and just what we would like to stay in on any of our travels.

What makes this cottage unique

The views are picturesque and it is in a beautiful part of Lancashire we call it the hidden gem. The cottage is not far from Lancaster, Clitheroe, Settle, Skipton. It is also only a 2 minute walk from the award winning Parkers Arms which is regularly talked about in The Times/Sunday Times for its outstanding food. The cottage is also in a dark skies accredited site so if you are a star gazer then this cottage is definitely for you

Relaxing and comfortable

We have just got back from a lovely, relaxing long weekend at The School House Cottage. The cottage was so comfortable and cosy and the surrounding area is beautiful. All the thoughtful extras were lovely and we wanted for nothing. Thank you so much Paula. It was a lovely weekend.

Relaxing and tranquil

  • 5 of 5

We have just arrived home from our three day stay at School House Cottage and as soon as we've finished this review, we'll be booking it again! The cottage itself is very tastefully decorated and charming. The lounge was just the right sized for the three of us with a log burner. The kitchen was very well equipped with all the mod cons. Main bedroom has a king size bed and is in keeping with the rest of the cottage, as is the smaller second bedroom. A nice touch was in the bathroom with a basket filled with the essentials you may have forgotten. An excellent place for walkers to use as a base or if like us, just need to relax. Also in the village is the Parkers Arms pub with the friendliest staff and lovely food. A stunning location with beautiful views.

The Lakes district is within an hours drive from the cottage through wonderful countryside. There is an award winning pub just 2 minutes walk from the cottage The Parkers Arms and within a 10 minute drive is The Inn at Whitewell which is said where the Queen had her first pint. There are a number of fabulous walks direct from the cottage doorstop. Gisburn Forest is only a short cycle ride away which has amazing bike trails - it is a wonderful part of the countryside.
