Best Views in Winter Park -- On the ridge in Fraser

After months of looking at 'cookie cutter' condos in Winter Park we stumbled upon this condo on the ridge. We walked in on a sunny day in January 2007 and saw the amazing view of the Winter Park ski area, Byers Peak, and Fraser River and knew this was the place. The 3 open levels, stunning views on every level, soaring ceilings, and sky lights made this condo feel unique, and just a little nostalgic for the 'ski shacks' of the 1960's and 1970's. Our 2100 square foot condo has an open floor plan including: gas fireplace, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 living areas, 2 decks, wet bar, washer and dryer, courtyard, large parking lot, and garage. The owner lock-off 1 bedroom 1 bathroom is attached to the unit-- and available for rental if more room is needed. Each year our condo evolves. Updating the kitchen one year, updating a couple bathrooms the next. The latest addition is a bunk room. Dreams of a firehouse pole from top floor to bottom floor are still in the works.

We are just up the road from the grocery store, tubing hill, theater, bowling alley, and rec center. We are two miles to the town of Winter Park and seven miles to the WP ski resort. Out your door: biking, hiking, and fishing. Minutes to: downhill skiing/boarding, x-country skiing, tubing, sleigh rides, ice skating, golfing, mnt biking, horseback riding, alpine slide, shopping, rec center including climbing wall, full gym gymnastic area, b-ball court, & amazing pools with water slide. 30 minutes to: hot springs and spa, rafting, sailing, & water skiing.

About Jane Schmidt

My husband, a Denver native, came to Winter Park as a toddler in the 1960's, one of five siblings in the back of a Rambler station wagon -- and he fell in love with the mountain. Winter Park has been his weekend winter home ever since; as a teenage terror in the 1970's, a ski bum in the 1980's, and for 15 years as a National Sports Center for the Disabled volunteer instructor. As a native Texan I have fought the Texas skier stereotype... mostly from my own children... however I have found the mountains in the summer and fall are incomparable. In the 2000's we brought our kids to Winter Park and it has become their weekend winter home. We really do enjoy sharing our winter home with our family, friends and guests. Why Jane Schmidt chose Fraser

We had our eye out for a property in Winter Park for years. Winter Park has a rich history of being the winter weekend home, and ski train destination, for Denver skiers for over 70 years and we couldn't imagine being anywhere else...and then we found this 70's style condo on the ridge. The place was so unique, sunny and open, and the views were breathtaking, and we were hooked. We later learned from our neighbor, Jerry Groswold (a genuine skiing pioneer; test skier for the family ski manufacturing business; participant in Winter Park's 1939 opening day; and former president of the Winter Park ski area...miss you Jerry) that Norwegian ski champion, and Winter Park Ski Pro, Otto Tschudi lived in our home from 1979-1981. Our winter home had been the epicenter of party life in Winter Park in the early 1980's...We had fallen in love with a place which shared a little bit of Winter Park history. We love that Needle's Eye and Rail Bender have been home to Winter Park 'lifers' who wouldn't live anywhere else.

What makes this townhome unique

Needle's Eye was the earliest structure built on the ridge in the late 1970's when land use was more generous. We have a large green space set back from the main road. The green space provides a buffer for the enormous parking lot, garages, and courtyard space. We have a dedicated 'kids' space' on the lower level complete with fooseball table, wet bar, mini fridge, bunk room and bath. We have a main level bedroom and bath, as well as, a full size washer and dryer. On the top level we have two bedrooms and two baths, which can be very secluded from the rest of the townhome. We have found it is just such a nice place to get away. Beyond the proximity to skiing perks, we are close to the grocery store, tubing hill, sports fields, rec center, golf, and natural hot springs.

This condo was the perfect place for us and our 10 grandkids to stay while visiting Winter Park.

The rain threatened to ruin our trip but with all the things to do in the condo and the rec center that was close by, we never ran out indoor activities. The condo had plenty of space, including beds and bathrooms, for all 12 of us. Jane was wonderful to work with. Directions to the place were spot on, even helping us to avoid the speed trap that was indeed in progress as we drove thru a neighboring town. The view from the deck is amazing. The kitchen was well stocked with lots of extras that made cooking for 12 much easier. My only suggestion would be to equip the main level bedroom with a king size bed.

Perfect space with a gorgeous view

We enjoyed a family reunion and had plenty of room for 6 adults, 3 college kids and 2 teenagers. The kitchen is well stocked and made meal prep a breeze. The Safeway grocery store is just down the hill. Some of us skied Winter Park while the rest of us enjoyed day trips to other areas.

The condo was clean, spacious and packed with great surprises such as classic movies, a foosball table, games and novels. The washer and dryer were great!

The only complaint was the firm mattresses. So if you like soft beds either pile up the extra blankets you'll find all over the condo or bring some cushioning!

We were celebrating Christmas and the owners had left us tiny stockings and some special treats. That was a nice touch and warm welcome for our week in Fraser.

Great place to stay in a wonderful part of Colorado!

Convenient and Comfortable

We recently enjoyed our third visit to the beautiful Fraser Valley---the best yet. We find it to be family friendly and reasonable in cost with everything you want for a Winter getaway in the snow---skiing, tubing, snowmobiling in Arapaho NF, even swimming in the REC Center. Needles Eye was convenient to everything and more than adequate. The kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry had everything needed. The nearby Safeway is a plus. Jane is helpful and friendly. And you'll love the view Mt Byers and the valley from the deck. We will come back to Fraser and have no hesitation to stay hear again.

Overall great place and very convenient

Great place to stay and extremely convenient to the shuttle basically being outside the condo. The only reason it is 4 stars and not 5 is that most of the beds need more comfortable mattresses.

Clean, exceptionally well equipped and decorated, very well stocked for cooking for a large group

I looked at the property in November before using it in December and I was even more impressed with it the second time I saw it. The unit was clean and had plenty of space for the 11 people in our group. It was better stocked for cooking for large groups than any other property I have rented. The cookies, crackers, and little stockings filled with candy were a very nice touch. The unit is well located for skiing and access to Fraser and Winter Park. The living room area was a great place for watching TV, visiting, building cross word puzzles, and just sitting and enjoying a great view of the Fraser Valley. All of the beds were satisfactory and the bedrooms had plenty of storage for belongings. All of the TV's worked well and had a good selection of cable channels. I would definitely rent the unit again.
