This charming converted monastery nestles in the hillside hamlet of San Pietro a Marcigliano, not far north of the city of Lucca. In the centuries it has become the main building of the estate surrounded by many ancient buildings as barns and houses for the workers. The setting is incomparable and the views are wonderful. This is a hidden part of Tuscany, timeless, unchanging and away from the tourist track. The Monastery was built about 1550 and has been owned by our family since 1792. It has been converted to a family home while retaining the vital architectural integrity of the original buildings. Around the monastery is the property where olive trees and wine yards are the main cultures. We produce olive oil and an excellent wine; the old cave is just on the ground floor of the main building. The countryside offers many opportunities of discovering very nice places with little medieval churches or old farmhouses. Behind the buildings are woods with many opportunities for walks or mountain biking.

Nice place. No internet forced us to move.
The apartment was nice. Beautiful views on a mountain top. The pool was clean. It was very isolated, which is nice to get away from it all. The person who checked us in and helped with our stay, Giulia, was extremely nice and very helpful. Our complaint was that the WiFi was not working. They claimed that it was a problem with the phone system in the area and would be fixed in a matter of hours. However, after 2 days, it still did not work. At that point, the owner told Giulia to get us a 4G "internet key". However, in my opinion that was not going to work as we barely had a phone signal. Giulia offered to let me come to use the WiFi at her work, but that defeated the whole purpose of getting an apartment that promised WiFi. My work required my ability to sign into my office daily. I planned to do this from the apartment while being with my family. Finally, I decided we would have to check out a day early and go somewhere with WiFi. I requested to be refunded for one day, but we were told the owner refused to do that.
Better than the pictures
It often happens that you find puin arrival that the agriturismo is not like the pictures on the website. Also here, but in this case reality beats the web. Spacious and beautifully decorated rooms. Large kitchen and another plus: a balcony overlooking the valley. Gorgious in the evening when the street lights appear. Don't expect overluxurious steamshowers or golden doorknobs, yet the house has all you need incl. a pool and bbq place. Daniella is very kind and willing to help with every request. Something to improve? Well, we didn't discover one yet so will have to come back.
A recommander pour le calme et la beauté du paysage.
Proche des villes à visiter (maximum 1h30) de sienne, des cinq terres, de Florence,
