1 bedroom rustic barn conversion self catering cottage.
We live on site in the beautiful Test Valley. Our 2 grown boys live at home along with our dog and chickens. We love the area and enjoy country walks to lovely local pubs serving great local produce. There is so much to see and do in the area.
Sarah purchased this Barn in 2011
Why Sarah chose Kings Somborne
The Test Valley is an area of outstanding natural beauty. We are surrounded by stunning scenery and the River Test famous for its fly fishing and other country pursuits. We are extremely lucky to have fantastic high quality eateries and farm shops on our doorstep and fantastic independent shops in Stockbridge, Winchester and Salisbury. The whole area is surrounded by amazing things to see and do and only being a 10 minute drive into the New Forest or 30 minutes to the sea means that we can have the best of both worlds.
What makes this Barn unique
The Old Barns is a beautifully converted barn consisting of 4 one bedroom cottages. If you want to get together with some friends and family it is possible to rent all 4 cottages. We welcome well behaved dogs and it is possible to accommodate additional children in some of the cottages. The barn conversion has been carried out in a rustic style while keeping all the home comforts you would expect. The cottages are very generous for 2 people and as with man of our guests I am sure you will keep coming back. We have access onto the Test Way from the top of our driveway giving you access to miles of beautiful country walks or just a short drive away is the New Forest, the coast or the cities of Winchester or Salisbury. We are absolutely spoilt for choice with good places to eat all within 5 miles and there is a lovely local pub just 1 mile from the cottage. Mobile and wifi are available at the property, but due to our location we do not guarantee these and some mobile providers do not get good reception here.
Cancelled bookings will not receive a refund.
Damson Cottage wonderful stay
Overall excellent holiday experience, easy to book, easy to locate final destination, cottages were very well presented and clean. Sarah and Rob are a lovely host and provided good advice on local attractions and places to eat.
Gorgeous place and stay
We spent the Easter weekend here - such a gorgeous place. So quiet. Beautifully kept. Lots of nice nearby walks and pubs. The owners are so friendly and helpful too - thanks Sarah and Rob. The Old Barns is an ideal place for a bit of rest and relaxation and a chance to explore, walk and cycle the nearby New Forest. And it got a big paws up from Rufus the dog too - he came with us and was made to feel very welcome both at The Old Barns and anywhere else we took him close by
We had a very relaxing and comfortable stay at the barn. The hosts were very helpful and cheerful, the accommodation was clean and well equipped. The location was perfect within easy reach of many attractions, places to eat and food stores. Most of all we enjoyed the peace and quiet and the beautiful countryside.
Lovely accommodation in a peaceful spot
Very well equipped, clean, tidy cottage with thoughtful touches such as fresh eggs provided. Plus little things like washing up liquid supplied - which is always a pain if it isn't as one doesn't want to buy some if only staying for a couple of nights.
Perfect location for access to all that the Test Valley has to offer and easy access to Winchester.
Made to feel very welcome by Sarah and Rob who deservedly seem to get repeat business. Followed their pub recommendations too!
Downsides, if one wants to nitpick...the nearby road can be a bit noisy at times, though it was quiet at night. A light sleeper in this cottage might be disturbed by the sound of some equipment running in the adjacent utility/store room.
Would happily return if heading that way again!
Great accommodation in a lovely location
3 excellent nights in this beautifully appointed "Cottage". The upside-down arrangement works well to allow you to appreciate the views and to sleep downstairs which on hot days must be a blessing. We especially appreciated the fact that small items such as dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid etc. plus 6 eggs and some milk, as well as tea, coffee, sugar were provided so that you could function immediately upon arrival. Sarah and Rob clearly put a lot of thought and care into how things operate here. We followed their recommendatios for pubs to use and were not disappointed. The Test Valley is a haven of peace and tranquillity and we also enjoyed a day visiting Winchester and especially the Tower Tour at the Cathedral.
Would happily recommend this property to others.
We are rather spoilt by the wonderful pubs, restaurants and farm shops in the area.
Please find below a list of just a few of them - far too many to mention:

Just over 1 mile stroll along the Test Way you will find this dog friendly pub offering home cooked simple food.
The Boot Inn, Houghton
A good 5 - 6 mile walk or a short drive you will find this lovely pub with a fantastic garden running down to the River Test. We love the food in this pub and dogs are welcome in the pub area and garden, but not the restaurant.
The Crown Inn, King's Somborne

Good home cooked food and friendly atmosphere.
