Newly renovated, this delightful gate lodge on the magnificent Milne Graden Estate provides the perfect excuse to put a busy week behind you and discover a gentler pace of life. The captivating setting is the reason visitors return to Milne Graden year after year and will prove an irresistible draw for those seeking a relaxed stay in cosy surroundings.

Finished to a high standard throughout using soft earthy colours, furnishings from Chelsea Textiles, along with fresh ginghams and linens, West Lodge is beautifully presented in a contemporary country cottage style, peppered with quirky touches which will appeal to doggy lovers everywhere! The accommodation sits on one level with a cosy sitting room, a large double bedroom with kingsize bed, and a pretty breakfasting kitchen which leads out to a private east facing garden - perfect for sunny mornings with coffee and croissants.

Situated just four miles from the historic town of Coldstream, West Lodge, complete with original columned gate piers was the former entrance to Milne Graden House and sits in an idyllic spot with fabulous views over Coronation Wood to the estate beyond. Here you can rest, relax and soak up the gentle sounds of nature, wander riverside trails with your four-legged friend, or perhaps stop and indulge in lingering lunches in hidden gems. Alternatively if you prefer your holidays packed full of activity, there are endless opportunities for exploring, sightseeing or more active pursuits and adventures right across the beautiful Borderlands and the Northumberland coast.

The river holds a special place here, and the property joins a collection of seven other luxury cottages on the Milne Graden Estate situated on the banks of the River Tweed, one of the world’s great salmon rivers. For parties wishing to holiday together, the estate welcomes couples, families, larger groups and their furry friends who receive their own welcome pack on arrival, plus a generous goodie hamper for two-legged guests. Fishing is also available on the estate subject to availability.


The accommodation is all on the ground floor and may be suitable for guests with restricted mobility.

Kitchen with electric oven, electric hob, dualit toaster, microwave, fridge / freezer and washing machine with dryer. Small dining table for two.

Bedroom with king size bed with luxury pocket sprung mattress, and a large fitted wardrobe providing ample storage.

Family bathroom with bath with grab handle and shower over, heated towel rail, basin and wc.


The cottage has oil central heating throughout.

Guest amenities

The bed is made up with high quality bed linen, hypoallergenic duvet and feather pillows. A hair dryer is supplied. Luxurious Arran Aromatics toiletries, bath sheets and hand towels are provided for all guests.

Welcome pack

A small complimentary welcome pack awaits guests on arrival.


One well-behaved dog is welcome at West Lodge. Milne Graden Estate welcomes dogs and a doggy welcome pack is provided along with a map of the estate for those doggy walks. Cats are unfortunately not permitted.

Babies and children

West Lodge is not suitable for babies or children.

Garden and grounds

West Lodge is set in a mature, gated garden with an outside seating area and fabulous countryside views. The seating area faces east and is a wonderful spot for breakfast.


There is private parking for at least one car to the rear, front and side of the cottage.

Wi-Fi and mobile coverage

There is Wi-Fi at the cottage. Mobile coverage is generally good.


West Lodge can be taken on a purely self-catered basis, or a cook is available throughout guests’ stay, for breakfasts or dinners only or to provide one-off celebratory meals for a special occasion. A homemade meal delivery is available which is popular for guests’ first night and wine delivery is available in conjunction with renowned wine merchants Corney & Barrow.

Local amenities

Coldstream is a quaint but bustling little town with a rich history sitting on the north side of the River Tweed right on the Scottish/English Border. The shopping here is small and friendly with a good mix of independent outlets running the length of the High Street, including a family butchers, fruit and veg shop, bakery and small Co-op supermarket for holiday essentials, as well as a super art gallery and interiors shop for lifestyle gifts and accessories.

Alternatively head to Norham (4 miles) for a fantastic selection of quality local produce, including meats, pies, and cheeses from Foreman’s, or the Cornhill Village Shop (5 miles) for coffee, cake and scrummy picnic lunches. It is also home to the highly regarded Collingwood Arms for elegant evening dining, or a short drive will take you to the Allanton Inn (6 miles) which has a suberb reputation for serving excellent locally sourced food amidst relaxed, convivial surroundings.

More extensive shopping, restaurants and amenities can be found in the picturesque town of Kelso (12 miles) which is also home to the 12th Century Abbey, Floors Castle, the Roxburghe Championship Golf Course, National Hunt Racing as well as the outstanding Roux restaurant at the Roxburghe Hotel.
