Casa Dell’ Artista is situated in the medieval perched village of Roccatederighi in the heart of Tuscany, 1 hour drive from Siena. This is an ideal location for discovering all that Tuscany has to offer, the cuisine, the art and the cities of Florence, San Gimigniano, Volterra etc. Rome is one and a half hours by train.
The village lies at a height of 1,500 feet and one of its distinguishing features are the rocks with their stunning views. The house, which has its own small turret & secluded garden offers spectacular views over the Maremma Plain and the sea in the distance. This view can be enjoyed from all the windows. The old cobbled streets, which are traffic free add to the atmosphere of peace & tranquility & is totally safe & secure. The house has been totally renovated & includes a new kitchen and bathroom. A particular feature is the turret, with an archer's window, adding character and history to the property.
The south facing garden is another feature with its vine covered terrace, bay tree, fig tree and terracotta pots. The house has two outside terraces both with amazing views. One terrace leads off the top (main) bedroom and the other is a vine covered terrace leading off the main living area on the ground floor. The house has a lovely private and safe garden with a fig tree where you can relax . Please note the garden shown below the Turret photo does not belong to this house which has a separate private garden at the side with a lovely fig tree ( see photo).
Roccatederighi is a lively village with 2 butchers, 1 baker , a lovely colourful vegetable shop, grocers and supermarket. The house is within easy 10 minute walking distance of all the local shops, bars & restaurants. There are 4 restaurants and 3 bars/cafes in the village and many more in the immediate locality.
Casa dell'Artista is a fully restored medieval house, set in the Medieval part of the village. Some of the walls are a metre thick, which make it extremely cool in the heat of the summer. Every room in the house has wonderful views across the Maremma Plain ,to the sea, and the Islands of Giglio and ( from the spectacular rocks nearby) to the islands of Elba and Corsica.
The house is on three levels. The main entrance is accessed via a garden gate, which leads onto the vine covered terrace, from which there is the main door, leading onto the ground floor. On entering the house, the stairs to the upper floor are facing the door. The upper floor houses the main bed room, complete with double bed, en suite bathroom and a large terrace with commanding views over the Marremma plain and to the coast.
From here, you can sit and enjoy the spectacular scenery and the wild birds including wood - peckers, owls, swallows ,swifts ,house martins, and birds of prey (including buzzards, falcons and Snake Eagles) soaring in the thermals. You can often see families of wild boar roamimg in the fields below .
The living area,on the ground floor, is set in the turret (which was part of the old Medieval wall). This area has a TV and DVD and large open fireplace.
This attractive, airy room, with its terracotta floors and beamed ceiling extends through an archway into a light , modern kitchen and dining area also with a wonderful old beamed ceiling.
The kitchen, with its beamed ceiling ,is fully equipped with fridge, dish washer , microwave, oven ,hob, toaster. (There is a washing machine is in the bathroom and a fridge freezer in the garden room). The dining area has a dining table and 6 chairs with two windows providing dramatic views of the volcanic rock structures and surrounding countryside.
The lower floor is approached by a flight of stairs which lead to two further twin bedrooms and a large family bathroom, which provides access onto the garden. The larger twin bedroom contains two large single beds and wardrobe. The other smaller bedroom is situated in the turret with its metre thick walls and has a single bed with a pull out bed of the same size. The wardrobe for this room is outside in the passage. This Turret room again is a delightful room as from your bed you can see the sun rising over the valley below.
On the lower level there is also a a good sized garden/ store room which houses the boiler, water pump and a large fridge/freezer.
The house is situated just below the large Priest's House and Church and within is 5 - 10 minutes walk of all the shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and other amenities.
The old cobbled streets ,through which donkeys used to pass in days gone by, are too narrow to accommodate cars, which adds to the peace and tranquility. There are, however large free car parks about 5 minutes walk away.
