Magnificent apartment located in the heart of historic Madrid, ten meters from the Plaza Mayor in the Madrid de los Austrias, next to San Miguel Market, Royal Palace, Puerta del Sol, Las Letras, La Latina, Lavapies, etc. Well connected, it takes 45 minutes from the airport to the door of the apartment. Newly renovated apartment in historic building of the nineteenth century. Bright, spacious, with balconies pedestrian street. Ideal for couples alone or with children, as the living room sofa converts into a comfortable double bed.
We arrived in Madrid very late in the evening and Manu was there to meet us and show us the apartment. Everything needed for our four day stay was available including a bottle of wine and some Spanish crackers. Although the bedroom space was limited, the apartment was spacious and well furnished. The best aspect of the unit was the location just a few feet from Plaza Mayor. There is much going on in that neighborhood and all of the other sites in central Madrid were within a 25 minute walk with most much closer. As a reminder, Central Madrid is a very lively place with street activity very active until substantially after midnight. The apartment is on a quiet street but there is a significant amount of noise at night including garbage collection at around 2 AM. If you are noise sensitive bring earplugs. The apartment is on the 4th floor meaning that 5 flights of stairs are climbed because the ground floor is termed zero floor.
I would absolutely stay in this apartment if I returned to Madrid. Manu is very accommodating and helpful. I realized I had left a small back of some electronic equipment in the apartment when we arrived in our next stop in Seville. I contacted Manu and he went to the unit, found the back under a pillow and arranged to meet me when we retuned to Madrid the next week to get our flight. You cannot ask for better service than that.
The apartment was a great location, easy access to Sol for transit, nice to walk around after dinner. Kitchen had good utensils and gear. The owner left us a nice welcome package, and there was coffee and olive oil to get us started. The bathroom was great, spacious and good water. The laundry facilities worked fine.
The dining room table seated 6, plenty of room for stuff and a breakfast or dinner for 2. The windows brought in lots of light, and there was ample storage for us in the bedroom.
As some other reviews have stated, it can be a little loud in the evenings. We are extremely light sleepers, and even with the shutters closed there was street noise on the weekend.
While we didn't have issues with the 4 flights of stairs with luggage, as the owner graciously took them up the first morning we arrived; we did find them tiring at the end of a long day, and it meant you didn't "drop anything off" even if you were in the neighborhood.
We definitely appreciated the owner-run property, because it had more touches of the country and city than a hotel;, or a property managed by a firm.
My husband and I stayed 4 nights in Manu's Madrid apartment. Manu met us and spent about half an hour explaining how things worked in the apartment and giving us tips for shopping and restaurants close by. He also left 2 typewritten pages of information about the apartment and local shops and restaurants which we found very helpful. Manu was very accommodating, letting us into the apartment early on our arrival date because he did not have guests leaving the same day. We really appreciated that after a long overnight flight. The apartment is conveniently located to see all of the sights on foot. The bed is very comfortable, the kitchen is perfect for preparing simple meals and the living/dining areas are spacious and comfortable. Manu surprised us with a welcome gift of a bottle of wine, some cheese and bread sticks which we thought was a lovely touch. As mentioned in previous reviews, there is no air conditioning or elevator but we think Manu has priced his rate accordingly and therefore we have given him a 5 star rating.
For touring Madrid, this apartment was in the perfect location. Located on a street just off the Plaza Mayor, walking almost everywhere is feasible. The Plaza itself offers multiple restaurants and the San Miguel Market, which is a delight for tapas, drinks and socializing with people from around the world, is minutes away. Manu was there to help us and provide information and maps which was greatly appreciated. He even provided a beautiful bowl of fresh fruit as a welcoming gift--wonderful!! The apartment was clean and towels, hand soap, shampoo, coffee, tea, hairdryer, shower mat, washing machine and drying rack where all provided which makes the stay so much more pleasant and appreciated. The space is well suited for 2 travellers, with each room being separated by doors for quiet or privacy. The bedroom has good storage for clothing to empty your suitcase; the living room is comfortable and spacious, the dining room, and bathroom are all also more than large enough and comfortable for 2 travellers. The bathroom is done really nicely with a huge shower, double sinks and a separate toilet area. My husband is a vegan so cooked a number of meals during our stay and found the kitchen to be a good size space, very well organized with a great fridge size, lots of pots and utensils to cook. So the pictures show the apartment well, but it is even larger and nicer once you see it and move in. The only reason I did not give this apartment a 5-star rating is that it is not air conditioned and it is a 4th floor walk-up with no elevator. Manu provided a fan (for which we were very grateful), but with very hot temperatures in Madrid we could not open the windows and the apartment was pretty warm for sleeping. The location right off the Plaza Mayor is wonderful, but some evenings could be quite noisy between 10 pm and 12 am even with the windows closed.
We stayed 5 days at Manu's place, a historic apartment right beside the Plaza Mayor. The apartment was beautiful with high ceilings, a balcony, large fluffy towels and a wonderful modern bathroom. We arrived during the heart of one of Spain's busiest festivals so the nightly concerts at the Plaza Mayor were loud but they ended by midnight. If you like to be in the heart of it all, this is the place to stay.
Great location within walking distance to all major city sites. The unit was in excellent condition making it a very relaxing place to come and rest after a long day of exploring the city. (Spa shower was very refreshing). Manuel was very helpful personally showing us the surrounding area. He also gives you detailed listing of places ro visit, eat, and shop. All in all you will not go wrong renting this unit.
