Set on top of a hill, just 15 minutes walking from the picturesque village of Formello , Villa Infiorata stands in private, 3 levels, child friendly gardens, with spectacular views on Regional Park of Veii. The layout and space of the house, lawn & pool allow you to greatly enjoy your holiday. In addition to this, a quick drive to the train (15 min), would take you into down town Rome for one, 50 Euro each way. This gives you the flexibility to spend considerable time in Rome or head north to explore the many experiences. Getting on the highways through GRA - the ring around Rome - is very close (15 min) and easy to navigate.
When back home, relax around the private outdoor swimming pool (large 6 m, long 12 m, deep from 1,20 to 2,20 m) , or, in the mature gardens , enjoy sunset on the west side and the wonderful view northwards across hills and miles of countryside in front of you!
My husband and I moved in this villa long time ago. My children have grown up here and enjoyed the quietness and healthy air of the country side, not so far from Rome downtown, where they used to go to school.
We live in the main apartment of villa Infiorata and we both speak English and French. We are happy to give any help if required.
Silvia purchased this apartment in 1982
When first we visited the house, we fell in love with the impressive view of the Parco di Veio in front of it. No matter if there was lot of work to do to restore it, we were young and strong and that house, in that location, ought to be our home!
We live here since 30 years, we made a lot of changes and now the house can comfortably host friends and visitors in full privacy.
Location, quietness and excellent views are the main benefits of this house.
We had the most away from it all relaxing time after having spent 3 nights in busy Rome. The property is spacious and comfortable with beautiful decor. We used the bbq most evenings enjoying the views of the hills in the distance. The outside area is so spacious and well kept and the pool is clean and a good size with plenty of beds and seating areas. Silvia and Mario are the perfect hosts, never intruding your space. But have plenty of time if you have any questions. They were very kind and gave us wine and hot bread. I hope to visit again one day. Thankyou. Julie Darren Ryan and Joseph
We (Mom, Dad, 2 Boys of 7+10) had the immense pleasure of staying with Silvia and Mario the 1st week of July, 2016. We arrived quite late due to car rental issues, but this was luckily no problem at all. Silvia speaks an excellent english, and we were able to communicate without problems.
With all the basics checked off: functioning WiFi, comfortable beds, a clean apartment etc., the rental apartment lies below Silvia and Marios house with direct accesss to a very well kept garden, a stunning pool and a spectacular view. Inside, the two bedrooms are located in opposite ends of the spacious apartment, separated by a well equipped kitchen/dining room/living room area. The rooms are super clean and quite cool during the day which is perfect during a very hot summer. Every room is tastefully decorated with wooden furniture, paintings and even crockery leaving behind the feeling that we did not live in a rental apartment, but in fact stayed in a separate room as guests. Needless to say, the fact that Silvia would drop by with a sample of Roman pizza bianca one day, and fresh figs wrapped in ham another, greatly added to that feeling of being welcome.
For anyone who likes to play in/around the pool, watch the sun set and listen to the cikadas while sipping on a glass of wine (a nice bottle of white was left for us in the cooler) and who does not mind having to get in the car every once in a while, this remote yet accessible apartment is for you.
In spring or autumn, this would be an obvious choice for a tranquil refuge during the nights while visiting Rome during the day.
We absolutely loved staying with you. Thank you for your hospitality Silvia and Mario, we hope to see you again.
My parents, husbond and daughter (2 years old) stayed at Silvia and Marios place for a week i september. It was a great experience. You wake up in the morning with a view of the hills. Just outside is the garden which is wonderful. There is a very nice swimmingpool with a pool area. All very well kept. It felt very safe to stay there and Mario and Silvia was such wonderful hosts. We all recommend this place for anyone to visit.
This was our second visit to this villa. We loved it forst time, but were even more pleased on our second visit. The owners have made a few changes since our last visit which have improved the experience even more. (If thats possible?) Mario and Sylvia made us feel so welcome and nothing was a bother to them. The location is fantastic for venturing into Rome (dont bother to drive - get the train from Olgiata) or simply exploring the endless picturesque ancient villages and towns. To come back to the beautiful surroundings of the Villa (With its pool) after a day of sight seeing in the heat was a Godsend. We would highly recommend this villa to anyone looking for an ideal 'bolt hole' to explore the Lazio area. (Or further afield) It is suitable for large parties as well as couples (like ourselves) Even though there were other families there when we stayed, we were unaware of there presence. Wonderful, Wonderful place. Highly recommend.
We have been holidaying in Italy for nearly 20 years and this was the best apartment we have used. The house is beautiful, homely and very well equipped. Sylvia and Mario are friendly and very helpful without being intrusive. Our teenage children loved the pool (especially the diving board) and the piano. The views are delightful and the area surprisingly rural given that you are so close to Rome. Travel into Rome extremely easy and cheap. Can't wait to go back...
Two words about Formello (20 minute walking from the house): Formello is a charming town with 12,855 people, only 20 km from Rome, at an altitude of 225 m above sea level. The name of Formello immediately betrays the origin of this town: the root of the name is precisely the Latin word forma, which means “water pipe”: the reference is, as a matter of fact, to the close network of hydraulic tunnels dug into the tuff found in the area relevant to the Etruscan town of Veii.
Formello is also the last village along Via Francigena before entering Rome, the spirtual goal of historical path crossed, since the middle age, by the pilgrims headed to the Holy places of Chistianity.
Steps from the house, you can deep in nature in the beautiful Valle del Sorbo, walking, biking, horse riding.
If you like Salt-free sun: Bracciano Lake, (less than 30 min far), with charming historical centres overlooking it, is quite large and with beaches equipped with facilities.
If you like to swim in the sea: Santa Severa is 50 min far, with its typical graysh, ferrous beach and sloping seabed that allows easy bathing for children, is an invitation to enjoy a relaxing day on the sand.
Relax in a SPA? The Terme di Viterbo “The Spa of the Popes” , 1 h e 4 min, offers therapeutic mud of a lovely volcanic lake and of the 20000 square metre pool. It will allow to immerse yourselves in water and nature both. Other spas can be found in the municipality of Canale Monterano, between Monti della Tolfa and Bracciano lake: “Terme di Stigliano” 56 min:
The road of Lazio cross the paths of faith. On the road that connects Viterbo to the coast of Tarquinia, in Tuscania (1 h e 12 min), stand the beautiful Romanesques churches of Santa Maria Maggiore and San Pietro. It is on these same roads and at these holy places that pilgrims stopped to rest on their way to Rome.
History and Fantasy: visit Viterbo ( 1 h ), capital of the province of Tuscia. Papal seat in the second half of 13th century, it still maintains a well kept medieval historical centre. For art lovers, the province also owns a valuable patrimony from Villa Lante di Bagnaia (1h ) to Caprarola (45 min), with the majestic Palazzo Farnese.
A “monstrous” beauty. Not far from Viterbo, we find Bomarzo (1h e 8 min), with its celabrated Garden of the Monsters. A luxuriant natural setting that houses gigantic statues of allegorical figures whose meaning is obscure, created by Prince Vicino Orsini, a unique intellectual of the late Renaissance.
Etruscans. Some of the most interesting remains of the Etruscan civilizations can be found in Cerveteri (51 min), the large necropolis is of great tourist interest. Tarquinia (1 h 23 min), instead, deserves a visit to its medieval quarter and underground tombs, some of them entirely decorated in fresco.
Visit 2000 years villas. Tivoli , Villa Adriana ( 43 min), built by Emperor Hadrian. Villa d’Este (51 min), dates from Renaissance and its greatest surprise is the vast Italian-style garden with its five hundred jests and fountains. Finally, Villa Gregoriana (50 min) and the waterfalls of the Aniene river that drop from its cliff, celebrated in late Renaissance Mannerist and Romantic painting.
Castles. Lazio region shows numerous fortified settlements, mostly situated on high grounds, an integral part of the cultivated areas that solved most of the probems of Rome’s food supplies. Among the best preserved “castrum”, the most noteworthy are the one of Bracciano (41 min), Anguillara (27 min), Santa Severa (55 min).
