seaside villa in Cefalu, a paradise built on the rock and surrounded by greenery

Bedrooms 2
Space 968 sq. ft.
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

villa by the sea (50 meters), 2 bedrooms, with wonderful views.

Dear friends,

Andrea's home is a dream come true. When I saw the first time ten years ago ', but abandoned surrounded by lush vegetation, built on the rock and overlooking a vast sea, I fell in love instantly. I dreamed just such a place to share my passions with my son ..... I began slowly to cure it, and finally three years ago 'came Andrea, my son! This house is dedicated to him because we have everything that I want to teach and share with him: respect for all living things, the strength of the imposing mountain, the immense serenity even in the stormy sea, patience and care that takes to grow a tree, a flower as well as love, respect for the work and the effort when we water the plants together or when help me dragging a bucket with little land bigger than him ... and especially the rock on where the house is built, and I left on purpose in view. As Ulysses, Homeric hero, had built his house around a tree, immovable, secure, stable even in the fury of the storm and its trunk had carved the marital bed, a symbol of family stability and affects deeper, so Andrea's home is built on the rock, because my son knows that our home is safe and our love indestructible even if the storm rages outside.

These feelings I share with you be guests at the home of Andrea .....

Now I would like to describe our house.

It 'an old farm building, probably dating to the early' 900, built using, according to the techniques of the past, the area of the stones placed on the rocks, to be very thick walls and resistant: the renovation, just completed, I wanted keep in view to highlight the integration between the work of man and nature.

It spreads over two levels: from the patio leads directly to the living room, with exposed stone walls and a large window on the seascape. The warmth of the stone I wanted to combine the comfort of a modern furniture, with a comfortable sofa bed in the English style and a table with flaps that can be used to dine with family or have a romantic breakfast in pairs.

The facilities include a LED TV with satellite connection, to request pay-per-view SKY (surcharge), internet access, a mini stereo for listening to music.

The kitchen, although small, is equipped with everything you need. It has another independent access to the patio, overlooking the BBQ. It 'also features a wine cellar of Italian and Sicilian (surcharge).

The large bathroom is elegantly furnished and comfortable shower is made of integrating it into the rock on which the house is built. The two large windows open to the wonderful panorama.

From the wooden staircase, reproduced on the original model, there is access to a hallway on the top floor: the light filters in the north by a window overlooking the sea and to the south by a glass door through which you access the solarium, a comfortable terrace for relaxation with spectacular views of the bay and the park behind.

The corridor leads to the two double bedrooms, with King size bed: both are furnished with antique art nouveau passed down over time and deliberately placed precisely in order to contextualize the peculiarity of being in a place that refers to our traditions.

Impressive is the view from the windows of the bedrooms seems to be able to stand on the deck of a large ship but with the knowledge to stay safe on the mainland.

Perhaps the most magical moment is when the sea is rough but has reassured dall'accudimento comfortable shell of our room.

Adjacent to the house a patio with barbecue and furniture to organize outdoor meals or relaxing moments.

Behind the house is located a convenient outdoor shower, with hot water.

All around is a large garden terrace, as it was in the nature but also how they had made the locals that they lived and worked cultivating the olive trees. The surrounding nature is part of the Madonie Park (protected area) with its rich Mediterranean vegetation constantly envelops all the efforts of men: this is the wonderful feeling that test one who observes the scene.

So how wonderful is the feeling you have just turning your body 180 degrees: you can in fact assist hypnotized to continuous cangiare the color of the sea that stands just below your feet. Seeing is believing.

On a terrace I organized a small observatory: a telescope can be provided on request (surcharge) because the location and the lack of artificial lighting environment is favorable to the observation of the stars.

average rating of 4.9333334 based on 15 reviews

Delightful cottage with fabulous sea views and great privacy.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage has been lovingly restored by Roberto and his family and made a great base for exploring and enjoying this part of Sicily. Terraces surround the house to maximise sun or shade.

Facilities were good and met all our needs, though a few more mugs and things would be needed for a bigger party.

The location behind security gates just to the east of Cefalu is great for privacy security and easy travelling but the access track is steep and not for the feint-hearted. Similarly the staircase to the bedrooms and upper terrace is easily negotiated by fit and able folk but would be a limiting factor for anyone with mobility issues.

But for peace and privacy and rural living, excellent. We didn't use the barbecue but will next time. And it would be great to have the bikes fully operable as the road along the coast, whilst it carries some fast traffic, is a great way to explore the sea shore opportunities.

Thanks for great and friendly arrangements Roberto. Come and visit!

It was a privilege to stay in Andreas villa overlooking the blue sea cooled by a breeze.

  • 5 of 5

We were made most welcome by Gabriella and Roberto and fell in love with the villa at first sight. Relaxing on the numerous outside terraces allows you to follow the sun or shade around this quaint, well designed and functional detached property. The sea view and cooling breeze is omnipresent and the position is quiet and peaceful. Cefalù was a very short car drive or pleasant walk. Access to a few near secret and quiet beaches can be found to the east if the busy Cefalu beach is not your preference. Highly recommended.

  • 5 of 5

House with an amazing view

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful house with a amazing view over the sea. We stayed here with four adults and had a wonderful time. Cefalu is a nice place with lots of little shops and restaurants, but we also enjoyed eating at home in the garden. Thank you Roberto and Gabriella for your warm welcome and we will definitely recommend your beautiful house to our friends.

Andrea's home is located in the residential area of Cefalu, considered the most beautiful seaside resort of western Sicily, Taormina as it is in eastern Sicily. It 'a town full of history, natural beauty, of activities and entertainment, and is the perfect starting point to visit the main Sicilian tourist resorts.

I would like to give some mention of its history, with its roots in the myth of the Giants, the descendants of Noah. Certainly that is the first prehistoric traces date back to the ninth century. C., the Temple of Diana, megalithic building with proto tank located on the Rock.

It 'was founded by Sicani (IV sec. A. C.) or by the Phoenicians who would have called Ras Melkart, or promontory of Hercules whose legend tells that the demigod in Cefalu has built and dedicated a temple to Jupiter, his father.

Even the myth of Daphne lives in Cefalu: he, who had started the world the joy of pastoral poetry, was blinded by his father, who turned it into the Mercury Rock, rock with human form.

Kephaloidion is his name greek. In 396. C. Cefalu is allied with the Carthaginians but in 307 a. C. was conquered by Syracuse: in 254 a. C. Romans besiege and take, and making City Decumana calling Cephaloedium. In the centuries successive domination of the Vandals, the Goths, the Arabs, who call Gafludi, until the Norman conquest in the Middle Ages.

E 'right under their domination that Cefalu knows its peak: in 1063 the Great Count Roger took possession of the city and his son, Roger, the dedication to the Christian faith, built in 1129, the Church of San Giorgio in 1131 and the beautiful Cathedral. The latter is built to keep a vow of King Roger, who, surprised by a terrible storm at sea while traveling from Salerno to Palermo, he promises to build a cathedral dedicated to the SS. Salvatore if he could touch the shore. And it is the SS. Salvatore patron of Cefalu, in whose honor the celebrations are dedicated on August 6, highlight of the summer: procession, performances, parades, concerts and fireworks celebrating the miracle.

After Ruggero II Cefalu faces a dark period until 1742 when, with the birth of the Consulates of Commerce, became a favorite destination of travelers from all over Europe.

In the revolutionary movements of 1856 Cefalu is actively involved paying a high price with his fellow citizens Nicola and Carlo Botta, Alessandro Guarnera, Andrea Maggio and Salvatore Spinuzza.

Leaning against the march of Garibaldi, in the election of the first National Parliament Baron Mandralisca, Enrico Piraino, President of the Civic Council of Cefalu, was elected deputy.

The visit of Garibalbi in 1862 is commemorated with a marble plaque in Corso Ruggero. From that moment the history of Cefalu merges with that of Italy reunited.

To relive the history of Cefalu you can not miss a visit to his extraordinary works, most notably the Arab-Norman Cathedral with its spectacular Christ Pantocrator, built by Byzantine masters from Constantinople and specifically called by King Ruggero. I suggest you immediately after you visit the other evidence of the Norman kingdom: the Palatine Chapel and the Cathedral of Palermo and Monreale Cathedral. So you can compare the Byzantine mosaics and incredible visions of Christ Pantocrator. However to visit the Palatine Chapel, where you will be overwhelmed by the splendor of the golden casket, joined the visit to the Royal Palace is truly magnificent! There is housed the Sicilian Parliament and sometimes you can also visit the rooms of the Assembly. If you decide to visit Palermo, I'll be happy to give you some itinerary and maybe arrange a day on the beautiful sandy beach of Mondello: if you're lucky (depends on the winds!) ...You believe it to be in the Caribbean Sea!
