`Ohi`a Kai Hale is your ideal home away from home while visiting Kauai. Centrally located, it is perfect for exploring the Garden Island as well as relaxing after a long afternoon at the beach. Fully-furnished, with two large bedrooms with a king bed in each, bathroom with double vanity, roomy full kitchen, and dining area that opens onto a large living area leading to a spacious lanai. Amenities include large-screen television with digital cable, ceiling fans in all rooms, towels, sheets, dishes and other kitchenware, iron and ironing board. We have Turbo internet (up to 20/2Mbps) with our WiFi secure network.
Ohia Kai Hale has large windows to let the beautiful Kaua`i sun into each room. Tropical vegetation, including palms, mango, noni, mock orange, banana, and panax abounds on the property. On the lower level there is lush landscaping with a gas BBQ grill and laundry room with high efficiency new large washer and dryer for available for guest use.
The location of `Ohi`a Kai is ideal for vacationers, business visitors, and residents seeking short-term housing. It is fairly quiet; ubiquitous Kauai chickens and roosters and nearby neighbors may add aural color to the sound environment. The lot is one block from Kuhio Highway (no highway noise), within convenient walking distance of the beach, several churches, and the shopping and dining pleasures of downtown Kapa`a. It is approximately ten miles from Lihue Airport, a 20-minute drive at non-peak times.
Some popular visitor destinations to the north and their approximate driving times include Kealia Beach (5 minutes), `Anini Beach (25 minutes), Kilauea Lighthouse (20 minutes), Limahuli National Tropical Garden (55 minutes), Hanalei (45 minutes), and Haena State Park at the end of the road (60 minutes). Haena is where you will find Ke`e Beach and the trailhead to the spectacular Na Pali Coast trail.
To the south heading toward Lihue, Coconut Marketplace (5 minutes), Lydgate Beach Park (10 minutes), turn right at Coco Palms to see `Opaeka`a Falls (15 minutes). When you are back on Kuhio Highway heading toward Lihue, turn right to Hanamaulu to see Wailua Falls (30 minutes), Kukui Grove Mall (22 minutes), or continue on Kuhio Highway to Poipu (30 mins.) Back on the highway see the largest coffee plantation in the USA, Kauai Coffee. At the southwestern end of the road is Kekaha, with a very large and private beach, or before you get that far, turn right to see Waimea Canyon.

To reach `Ohi`a Kai from Lihue Airport, turn right at the traffic light as you’re leaving the airport. This puts you on Kuhio Highway headed north. Continue straight for about nine miles. Along the way you will cross the Wailua River, pass the Coconut Marketplace shopping and dining complex on your right, ans soon you will see Safeway on your left and the Waipouli Beach Resort on your right. Keep driving! Shortly thereafter you will come to a traffic light in front of a small shopping complex with a Big Save grocery store and Shell gas station on your left. The Post Office is in that complex! Right after the Kauai Store you will see a left-turn only lane in front of the Latter Day Saints church.
There is no traffic light here, but you will see the entrance to Pono Kai resort directly to your right. Make a sharp left onto `Ohi`a Street. Note that this is a 90° turn! Don't make a soft left onto Ulu Street, a common error for newcomers. `Ohi`a Kai is the third and last house on the right side of the street. Our property faces the parking lot of the LDS church (white church with blue roof).
`Ohi`a Kai is clearly marked with green signs. Park in the space designated for `Ohi`a Kai Hale. If we are not there when you arrive we will have a lock box on the front door. If you plan to arrive in the evening, contact us prior to your arrival so that we can give you the lock box combination.

we enjoyed Al and his son very much and hope someday they move to Kauai. Maybe the next time they come my wife and I will be retired so we can go hiking with them etc.
I wanted to stay in a neighborhood; not a resort with all the crowds, and this place fit the bill. It is comfortable but nothing fancy, which is also what I prefer. There is plenty of room, and the lanai is huge. I was lucky during my 10 day stay and there were good trades so I never had to use the wall A/C units in the bedrooms, but I did keep the attic fan going the whole time. They also have a super floor fan in the living room!
As others have stated, Bob and Marianne left a beautiful bouquet of tropical flowers in the unit and dropped off some local star fruit during my stay. Much appreciated. Bob also left good instructions and plenty of numbers to contact him with any problems. The cable on the TV froze up one day, but I just called the service provider and they corrected it within about 10 minutes.
Old town Kapaa is in easy walking distance and so is the coastal bike path. Just be aware, there are certain times of day when Highway 56, the main road through town, gets very, I said VERY, jammed with traffic. Research the by-pass route and use it if you can.
Overall, this was a comfortable place to come home to in the evening, and Bob makes sure you have plenty of contact numbers, although I never had to contact him.
Very friendly and welcoming owners. We liked having the opportunity to recycle. Relaxed and casual vibe, spacious house and lanai. Well equipped kitchen. On demand cable. This isn't generic hotel style accommodation - which suited us perfectly.
Our family of four, including 2 adult children, had a great time staying at Bob & Marianne’s `Ohi`a Kai Hale. The layout and size of the house, including 2 king beds and inflatable mattresses, was great for 4 adults, not easy to find in hotels or condos. We especially liked the location of the house, which is in a regular neighborhood, not in a tourist area. Thus, we were able to have a “native” experience, yet could walk to the restaurants and shops easily. Having access to a washer a dryer was surprisingly handy for re-using clothes that suffered from shave ice spills and other hazards. Also, the owners provided a hard-sided cooler that was extremely useful for taking food with us on day trips, as well as snorkeling equipment and boogie boards. Lots of towels, and kitchen fully stocked.
This rental was just what we wanted. However, it’s not for everyone. If you’re looking for an immaculate environment, where everything is new and perfect, look elsewhere. This is more like visiting the home of a relative—little things need fixing, some could be upgraded. However, we found this to be charming and more authentic in the island style. For immersion travelers, it was just right.
It was a pleasure staying at Bob and Marianne's Hale! We loved the location, right in the middle of town, but still quiet and an easy walk to all the local hangs...and the beach too! Not to mention, Kapa'a is a great central location for exploring the entire island. The apartment was roomy and comfortable and had a huge lanai, where we spent most of our time. Bob and Marianne were very helpful, giving us great recommendations for food, bars and local sites. We would definitely go back!
We loved this place! The 2 bedrooms were more than we needed and we enjoyed using the full kitchen and balcony for most of our meals. The owners added a personal touch by leaving a bouquet of flowers as bringing us fresh fruit. The proximity to the shops of Kapaa was convenient. We would highly recommend this rental
Bob and Marianne's Hale is exactly as described, very large for a Hawaii home. It has everything needed for an extended stay. We stayed almost 7 weeks and had everything we needed. The trade winds blowing through make air conditioning unnecessary, but it was available if needed.
The location is perfect, just far enough from town not to hear the traffic but close enough that it's a short walk to the Kapaas many shops, bars, restaurants and of course the beach. The people of Kapaa are very friendly. We met some friendly local residents in town that we met on occasion for dinner and to watch the NFL night games. The location is about midway between the far west side and the far north, about an hour drive each.
Bob and Marianne were wonderful hosts. They treated us like family even inviting us to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Bob offered many suggestions and brought fresh fruit from the trees at his home every few days.
I highly recommend Bob and Marianne's Ohia Kai Hale for anyone visiting Kapaa. Due to it's size it's perfect for a family. If I return to Kauai I will defiantly stay there again.

If the guest cancels or the balance is not paid on time, the deposit will not be refunded. If the remaining payment is not received at least two weeks before the trip starts, the booking will be canceled. If the guest has paid the full balance, they will receive: a 50% refund of the total cost if they cancel. Guests who made reservations prior to 2/25/2015 the cancellation policy will be consistent with what it was at the time they booked the reservation.
