This is holiday accommodation that goes the extra mile for you and we'd love for you to discover and enjoy our holiday rental gem yourselves. Here is a summary of what Fern House has to offer you…

Fern House is a Charming Period Town House Apartment tucked away in a quiet corner just 30 metres from the picturesque main market square of Grassington with its range of visitor friendly shops, pubs and restaurants in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The apartment spans over the first and second floors, accessed by stairs from the private entrance lobby through the grand front door.

Top floor...

Master bedroom: treasure a good night's sleep in the tastefully furnished master bedroom with hotel quality super king-sized bed topped with fluffy feather & duck down duvets and pillows & crisp white cotton bed-linen. This room boasts a stunning giant landscape image of the Yorkshire dales, a unique hand painted wardrobe set with plenty of hanging and storage space, a small desk, wicker chairs, views over the rooftops and Fold from the large Georgian window plus a large roof skylight window.

Second Lounge / Second Bedroom: a comfy room with a large chaise longue (or, on request, made up as a second double or twin bedroom with the option of the chaise longue made up as a double or single sofa-bed plus a further fold-out single mattress), a 40" flat-screen Sony TV's with DVD player, music player, a selection of classical music, maps (including a helpful Yorkshire Dales raised relief map on the wall), book and DVD info on the Yorkshire Dales. Views over the rooftops and Fold from the large Georgian window, plus a large roof skylight window.

First Floor:

Lounge / dining room: this elegant and peaceful room with period features and views over stone-tiled rooftops and quaint Dickensian style court yard provides an enjoyable place to relax and dine; the room has a 40" flat-screen Sony TV's with DVD player, a comfy sofa, mood lighting, a selection of games.

Shower room: stylish contemporary shower-room with dual-head shower, pearlescent mosaic tiles, soft white towels, ambient lighting and mirrors.

Kitchen: a fully equipped home-from-home kitchen maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness; elegant table and bar stools positioned in a place to enjoy views over the historic Pletts Fold courtyard below (and glimpses into the main market square area of Grassington) - it makes a great spot to use a computer while having cuppa or a convenient place for breakfast; the kitchen also has a CD player with range of classical music and a selection of cook books.

Utility area: just off the kitchen you will find a small utility area with tumble dryer, vacuum cleaner, slow cooker, high chair, iron and ironing board and a range of cleaning products.

Throughout the flat you will find a stunning collection of framed landscape photographs by a local artist featuring Grassington and the surrounding area.

There is secure BT broadband wi-fi internet which is accessible through out the whole apartment.

The property benefits from an abundance of natural light and includes many original property features including original Georgian sash windows, a large ornate south facing window.

Typical of a property of this period (1866), both staircases are relatively steep and narrow which whilst being part of the character of the apartment may cause difficulty for the elderly and/or infirm. Those with young children will also need to bear this in mind although we have stair gates and manage with a 3 year old ourselves in the apartment.

Ground Floor

Directly at the front of your accommodation there is a small flagged seating area and a convenient reserved parking space for your car.

Grassington is a picture postcard village in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Set amongst the magnificent limestone scenery of Upper Wharfedale, Grassington is a hub for local tourism offering a wide range of outdoor leisure activities.

There is a rich tapestry of flower-filled meadowland, high fells, heather moors and broad-leaved woodland, all scattered with stone barns, waterfalls and an abundance of drystone walls.

There are various popular and traditional community events held throughout the year including the atmospheric Dickensian Christmas Festival, the early summer Grassington Festival and the September 1950’s weekend.

Sorry no smoking and no pets. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

We commit to paying 5% of your total rental cost towards sending urgently needed humanitarian aid to children and adults in various countries abroad (more details on request).

Why Hazel and Andrew Allington chose Yorkshire Dales

Fern House was the best property we could find of this type... We thought it would be brilliant in terms of style, layout, design and location for guests.

What makes this apartment unique

We love Fern House - With it's character, charm, elevated views over the historic court yard, abundance of natural light, convenient amenities on the door step while still having privacy, reserved parking and friendly locals.

Grassington has beautiful architecture and many historic buildings - it's such a pretty and welcoming town to simply wander around, relax and soak up the atmosphere. We personally also spend many hours at the nearby Bolton Abbey estate and feel privileged to have access to this spectacular country estate.

Short Stay At Fern House

  • 4 of 5

Superbly positioned accommodation just off the main square. Very well equipped and comfortable especially the main bedroom with its large bed and luxury covers - very cosy. Could have done with the heating staying on for an hour longer in the evening especially as it was Winter time.Highlight of the stay was dinner at No 5 Grassington House -wonderful food ,pleasant atmosphere and welcoming staff. The Fountaine Inn at Linton is a must place to visit and eat whether at lunchtime or evening. Highly recommend a stay at both Grassington and Fern House.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our property and for highly recommending us. We're sorry we missed out on the top five stars we have received from our other guests perhaps because of your feedback about the heating. Just to clarify... the heating is programmed at 20 C until 11pm and then at 16 C overnight. We are happy to alter these settings, if guests phone or text us at the time, as we have HIVE wireless control. There is also a manual override control on the main landing of our apartment for guests to increase the temperature themselves. We hope that you will stay with us again and we will be able to set the controls for your personal requirements.

A lovely trip

  • 5 of 5

The house is very attractive, comfortable and well-maintained. Grassington is a lovely dales village and provides a great location for walking in the Dales. There is a good choice of places to eat just a short walk from Fern House.

Excellent accommodation, excellent location.

  • 5 of 5

Everything in the property was finished to a very high standard and had all the modern conveniences that you would expect. There are excellent shops, restaurants and pubs all within a very short walk.

I'd highly recommend it if your planning a walking trip in the area, we did two over the course of our stay and the local scenery is stunning. We visited several nearby villages on our travels and found them all to be very pleasant, each with it's own distinct character.

We visited primarily for the 1940s weekender, which was great fun! The village effectively became an open air museum and everyone got into the spirit of the occasion. This does lead to my one minor criticism though: We weren't informed that between 9am and 4pm Main Street was officially closed due to the 1940s weekender, which meant that we were unable to leave as initially planned.

All in all an excellent weekend and a location I would highly recommend!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to submit your review. We're glad you found the apartment so good and the location excellent. We're sorry that you did not notice our clear description of the steep stairs, typical of a characterful period property in this area, and no promise of enclosed outside garden. We hope your comments will avoid other guests being disappointed by expecting other than we have described. We're happy that you gave us five stars in all other respects.

Fantastic Fern House

  • 5 of 5

The property has a very luxurious feel. As soon as you enter and ascend the stairs you are surrounded by lovely paintings, photos and sketches of the area you are about to explore. The all purpose kitchen provides everything you need and the bathroom is a tranquil place at the end of a long day walking around the dales.

Upstairs to the bedrooms which are furnished beautifully adding a touch of luxury with very comfortable beds and plenty of space.

We had a wonderful stay - thank you very much indeed.

Wonderful apartment in a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is wonderfully furnished and spotlessly clean. They even had toys for our kids! Very accommodating also. It's right in the middle of Grassington, but off the main street so very quiet. Grassington itself is very well located and such a cute place! I would highly recommend the apartment.

Grassington is located just 15 minutes drive from the stunning Bolton Abbey estate which our guests and ourselves love to visit (Bolton Abbey is in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales on the banks of the River Wharfe. With just under 30,000 acres of beautiful countryside, over 80 miles of footpaths and ample space to run around and enjoy the fresh air, there is something for all ages. Explore the ruins of the Priory and discover a landscape full of history and legend, wander along the riverside, woodland and moorland paths, enjoy local produce in the excellent restaurants, tea rooms and cafes, treat yourself in the quality gift shops and food shop or simply relax beside the river with a picnic whilst the children play).
