SUSAN, Sept 2015

This was a lovely large property which had been nicely furnished. I felt that a lot of thought had gone into making this a comfortable home for us with all the facilities provided for a very enjoyable stay. We were a multi generational group so it suited our needs perfectly with lots of different indoor & outdoor seating areas, a large pool in full sun & a beautiful living room.......everyone was happy. The house was very clean & the kitchen & two shower rooms were spotless. The outside space & gardens are large with a really nice covered seating area with gas BBQ under the walnut trees next to the house, we really enjoyed sitting here in the evenings with our wine whilst listening to the local Nightingale singing. The pool was cleaned daily, lawns cut & gardens cared for, so we couldn't have asked for more. The covered seating area by the pool was a nice spot to sit whilst the children played in the pool. The local owners Sylvia & Bill were very helpful & attentive, offering advice & suggestions for restaurants which all proved to be spot on. Luckily we were only a 10 minute walk to the Dordogne river & Sarlat, Domme, Beynac & Roque Gageac were only a 5-10 minute drive. We all had a most relaxing stay & will return.

Fantastic location and beautiful grounds!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this tranquil country home. The pool was sparkling clean and refreshing after a long day of sightseeing at the many beautiful villages nearby. It’s truly a target rich environment. We visited caves and castles and canoed on the river. We also used the barbecue and enjoyed sitting outside for coffee and wine. The owners are very kind and obliging and took care of any issues promptly. The house remained cool even on hot days. Don’t expect a gourmet kitchen or opulence. But if you are looking for a comfortable country place that is close to everything and in a park-like setting, this is for you.

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

The Property is just Beautiful ,the surroundings were very impressive.

We had a puncture on our car on the day we arrived and was without a car for 3 days. We did not mind as we had a great time in the pool and just relaxed after our long journey.

Bill and Sylvia could not do enough for us , they provided us with milk and bread until our car was returned.

Thank you both for our stay and for being so helpful

Great holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at La Barthe. The Gite and gardens are beautiful. We spent a lot of our time at the pool which was cleaned daily.

The owners were great and nothing seemed too much trouble for them.

In all we had a thoroughly relaxing holiday and we are looking forward to visiting again next year.

Poor Acces Driveway

  • 2 of 5

First the good. Area was beautiful and the gite , grounds and pool were lovely. On site owners pleasant and made a good suggestion re night market at Belves. However access road approx 1/2 mile long was a nightmare. Our party had 2 mercedes and the track was completely unsuitable for anything other than a 4 by 4 or high wheel base car. We scraped the underneath and bumpers and also damaged the sides as we had to scrape up against the bushes in places as the holes in the road were so big. In other places we had to drive too close to the ravine. The owner said that he was not responsible for the access track but even so he should have mentioned it in the description. We had to hire a car which could only be done from Monday at our own expense taking costly insurance so we would not be liable for damage sustained on the track. Setting is gorgeous but make sure you have a 4 by 4.
