Tony and I have lived in the Algarve for more than 25 years, and brought our two children up here. We live in the countryside just north of Lagos and enjoy growing our own vegetables, walking our dog and generally being in the fresh air. Our hobbies are cycling and running, and the Algarve is an ideal spot to do both of these activities. We now have a grandson who loves to come to visit and we try to get to the UK to see him as often as possible.
Mary Palmer purchased this cottage in 2011
We love Figueira, it is a great location as it has everything on the doorstep, yet it is quiet and timeless, and has retained all the charm of a sleepy village with its narrow cobbled streets and whitewashed cottages.
Our favourite feature of Casa Antonio is the large covered terrace, perfect for watching the sunset and enjoying the tranquillity of the setting.
The house is situated inside the village of Figueira and is very well equipped with love to the details.
It offers anything from very complete kitchen utensils to stable wi-fi and even things like mats and a parasol
for the beach.
Despite being in the middle of the village, the place offers good privacy and is nicely light and spacious.
It has a small courtyard with a bbq which we also found great for leaving our surfboards and other sports gear.
Figueira is not yet as touristically developed as some surrounding areas, which for us is a great plus, especially
since we could still find everything we needed inside the village like a small supermarket, a small but very good restaurant and
a couple of bars all within 1 minute walking distance. In the bars you meet locals as well as expats and the atmosphere
is relaxed and friendly.
Also 1 min away is the local bus stop, from where you can get to pretty much any town (and many beaches) between
Lagos and Sagres. The closest beaches as well as a large supermarket are a 5 mins drive away.
Mary and Tony are friendly and helpful hosts and we'll try to make sure that next time we'll stay a bit longer!
Figueira is a small village well located to benefit from beautiful countryside as well as beaches on both the south and west coast of the Algarve. The nearest beach is Figueira, which is a two minute drive then a ten minute walk along a narrow path. Nearby is Salema, a fishing village well known for its beach and restaurants. Parque da Floresta Golf and Leisure Resort offers golf, tennis, gym and spa facilities, plus a large swimming pool, and is located a ten minute drive from Figueira. Lagos Zoo is a twenty minute drive away and is delightful, with many birds, primates, and a children's petting zoo. The town of Lagos is twenty minutes by car and offers a lively night life and large selection of restaurants. To the west of Figueira is Sagres, known in former days as "the end of the world", and famous for the navigators who set out from there to discover new lands. Sagres and the west coast beaches offer great surfing opportunities, with several schools operating out of Lagos and Sagres.
