Abruzzo is known as "the greenest region in Europe" Capestrano is a picturesque hill-top town of around 700 people. There is a main piazza, churches, a monastery and a beautiful C13th castle (free entry) overlooking the town. It is located on the edge of the National Park known as the Gran Sasso e monti della Laga. The Majella National park and Sirente - Velino are also nearby.

Facilities are good within walking distance (not 1.9km as this site states) an ATM, Gelateria, a bar with a restaurant, two small supermarkets, butcher, pharmacy, post office etc. A mobile fruit and veg stall is there most days. A market is held each week on a Friday morning with a range of stalls. Many other markets can be found in the area. A lovely bakery is nearby and a farm shop selling fresh cheese and yogurt.

There are peaceful nature walks from the house and more challenging ones in the hills. Climbing, biking , two bikes to use at your own risk with a bike carrier to fit many cars, ideal for the local lanes but not for serious mountain biking.

Horse-riding, canoeing and an outdoor pool (July/August) are all available in the area. There are numerous places to visit nearby - ancient sites, castles, museums, wineries, local food producers etc. All details can be found in the guest information at the house . I also e mail you plenty of information when you book .

The beaches of the Adriatic are 50 minutes away. Pinto area is my fav and I have a couple of beach chairs and umbrella, so if you prefer you don't have to pay for an Italian beach club! Towels and picnic items and cooler bag are at the house.

Locally, you can eat in many good restaurants.

From March 2018 central heating ! So winter months, Christmas and New Years 2018 are now available . Winter walking and skiing at many places . Roccaraso 1 hour , Campo Felice 1 hour 10 mins . Please note that snow chains are law on some roads in Italy.

Flights to Pescara 50 mins easy drive and Rome 2/3 hours . Train to Pescara and then a car hire .

I care about my guests and want them to have a 5 * stay and my reviews reflect this, on this site, air b&b and trip advisor.

I can, help you book restaurants if you don't have the language, sort out wine tastings etc . I just want you to have a great holiday .

I will always try to reply to any enquiry within a couple of hours (you maybe in a different time zone!) Kind Regards and look forward to hearing from you. Pamela

Guestbook comments from the owner

October 2017

Pamela’s ” Nature, Culture, Gastronomy. Breathtaking views.” apartment (house) is equipped with everything you need for a very comfortable stay and a lot more thoughtful things you probably didn’t even think of but will appreciate having. The view from the picture window and bedroom is indeed breathtaking and unforgettable. The house is a bit rustic but spacious and very homey. It was wonderful to come back to at the end of each day. The garden is much nicer than shown in the photos. Pamela is a wonderful hostess who was constantly in touch with ideas for things to do and unique places to visit. We had great meals at all the restaurants she suggested, especially Sapori di Campagna. We also recommend Antica Taverna in Navelli. Her Italian neighbors are a real treasure. They made us feel so welcome and showed us some very special sights. They even taught us how to harvest olives! This area has so much to offer that we wished we could have stayed longer than the week we were there. We hope to return to Pamelas's some day. Thank you Pamela for taking such great care of us and making us feel at home in your home.

A comfortable, welcoming house in spectacular setting

  • 5 of 5

Before we arrived and by email during the stay, Pamela made sure we had excellent information to make our stay pleasant . The house is extremely well organized and well equipped. There are comfortable places to sleep, eat, and relax.

But when we pulled up the blind over the picture window in the sitting room, I actually laughed because I had never seen such a spectacular view. And the mountains and valleys that you can see through the window are full of trails. The rental has lots of books and maps giving directions to some of the trails.

The people in Capestro are very friendly.

A roomy and very well equipped house in a lovely village

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful area and the view from the living area window is superb - the photo on the website does not do it justice. We had everything we needed and Pamela provided us with lots of useful information and maps before we went and in the house. Capestrano is a lovely old village with good shops for its size and friendly people. As a bonus we were there during the two-day Burgus Lupuli festival. The house also served as an excellent centre for visiting the Gran Sasso Park, the Sulmona area and the coast. Thoroughly recommend.

Owner's Response: I am glad you had a wonderful holiday . Sorry you found the water pressure low, this is a Capestrano village problem, I have been told that new water pipes will be fitted soon in the village to improve this problem. Best wishes Pamela

L’Aquila: 45 min.

Torre Cerrano (empfohlener Adria-Badeplatz nördlich Pescara): 60 min

  • 5 of 5
