About Bernadette Boteilho

In 2006, we purchased our 1st vacation rental home which was Ohia Plantation House. Then in 2007 our neighbor decided that they wanted 2 sell there 2 bedroom/ 1 bath cottage. It was located close to our other home and thought that it would be a wise purchase. This was the beginning of Ohia Paniolo Cottage. Cliff and I decided to do a Paniolo theme which is part of the history of Hawaii.

We try to give our guests the best accommodations possible. This month (October 2009) we replaced the refrigerator and put in a solar water heater system. Planted hydrengeas in the yard and added new plants to the front porch. Cliff and I enjoy giving our guests a place they can call home. Not just a place to stay.

Bernadette Boteilho purchased this house in 2007

Why Bernadette Boteilho chose Volcano

My husband and I love the cool climate of Volcano. Mauna Loa Estates is a wonderful and relaxing location. It's nice to take walks in the morning, close to the National Park and the neighbors are really great.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for the lovely " home away from home". We so enjoyed the kitchen, so well equipped. The spa was terrific respite after a full day of hiking in the park. The location is ideal for visiting Volcanoes National Park.

The flowers in every room really add the ambience.

The best place on the Big Island!

  • 5 of 5

Are you looking for a cozy yet spacious, private, romantic, comfortable place to stay?

Do you like Hot Tubs?

Look no further.

Tucked away in the Volcano neighborhood this 2bdr house was a spectacular part of our 2.5 day stay on the big Island.

The house is super clean, decorated to a lovely extent, fantastic bedding, some light snacks were provided, kitchen essentials present, and the hot tub clean and HOT. The property is surrounded on all sides by trees and bushes. Really makes it feel like you're in the Hawaiin jungle.

The closest neighbors can be seen slightly on one side through the brush, but were pretty out of site.

Would absolutely come back to this place if staying on the Hilo side of the island again.

Heaven on earth!

We totally fell in love with the Ohio Paniolo Cottage!!!!! The owners went out of their way to make sure that we felt at home. We so appreciated the breakfast items they left for us! That was such a nice touch! the hot tub was definitely a highlight - we used it every morning and every evening while listening to the rain and the birds - it was really wonderful! We also really appreciated being able to do laundry! It was so nice to be able to still participate in activities knowing that our clothes would be done when we got back! Volcano is a great little town!!

Sweet getaway in the middle of tropical jungle

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Bernadette's property near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The location was ideal for accessing the park and the amenities at Volcano Village. Bernadette added so many welcoming touches; fresh fruit, coffee, bread, and all the basics needed for the kitchen. The place is decorated in cowboy and chicken decor and all the kitchen equipment anyone could want is provided, along with dishes, utensils and a washer and dryer. There is a lovely hot tub on the premises which we took advantage of. Overall a nice place to stay and good location. Exceptionally friendly and helpful hosts.

Where do you live?

Great hosts and properties!

  • 5 of 5

Bernadette was an awesome host! We had a wonderful weekend staying in the plantation house. We were supposed to be in this house but they had a maintenance problem occur on the day of our arrival and they put us up in the larger house across the street which was equally lovely and well kept. Much appreciated for the accommodations and last minute switch when she could have just made us wait to check in for a repair person. The properties are very clean and well maintained, and extremely comfy. Location is great. Near national park. Volcano village is cute and the artistry on display at Cafe Ono worth a stop. Thank you!

Everything you could ask for and even more!

  • 5 of 5

This vacation rental was such a wonderful and generous surprise - a beautiful impeccably furnished and totally stocked living quarters you have to love!

After hiking trails and getting drenched by rains, we were exhausted and ready to just crash when we found ourselves here and amazed! Fresh fruits, a loaf of bread and wine, a hot tub and 2 soft beds with beautiful Hawaiian quilts, a great bathroom and shower, and a gas fireplace for the chilly night, and we wished we'd booked a whole week here! Not to mention the gift of a FedEx packageful of brochures to whet our appetite for our trip that arrived a few weeks before we left; along with a notebook full of information about at the house and almost everything we'd want to visit on The Big Island - we felt well-informed and more appreciative of the variety of possibilities Hawaii has to offer! We absolutely experienced the radiance of the Aloha Spirit that so made us fall in love with Hawaii! Thank you so much for one of the best stays ever!!!
