About Bernadette Boteilho

In 2006, we purchased our 1st vacation rental home which was Ohia Plantation House. Then in 2007 our neighbor decided that they wanted 2 sell there 2 bedroom/ 1 bath cottage. It was located close to our other home and thought that it would be a wise purchase. This was the beginning of Ohia Paniolo Cottage. Cliff and I decided to do a Paniolo theme which is part of the history of Hawaii.

We try to give our guests the best accommodations possible. This month (October 2009) we replaced the refrigerator and put in a solar water heater system. Planted hydrengeas in the yard and added new plants to the front porch. Cliff and I enjoy giving our guests a place they can call home. Not just a place to stay.

Why Bernadette Boteilho chose Volcano

My husband and I love the cool climate of Volcano. Mauna Loa Estates is a wonderful and relaxing location. It's nice to take walks in the morning, close to the National Park and the neighbors are really great.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for the lovely " home away from home". We so enjoyed the kitchen, so well equipped. The spa was terrific respite after a full day of hiking in the park. The location is ideal for visiting Volcanoes National Park.

The flowers in every room really add the ambience.

This is a beautiful well maintained home and yard!

We loved our stay here and would highly recommend it to others. It's close to the park. There are good places to eat in Volcano and a full kitchen to prepare your own meals. The little touches like fresh fruit and bread to greet us and kisses on our pillows were delightful and charming. Thank you so much.

Staying at this cottage helped me understand aloha. Definitely reccomend!!

The cottage was surrounded by lush vegetation and surrounded by lush plants so it felt secluded. We were tired and sore; hot tub was great. We missed a bunch of things shopping but no problem. They had stock of excellent coffee, hot chocolate, enough fruit to make smoothies everyday, kitchen wrap for our sandwiches to eat while hiking, etc. We slept great. Nice breeze blowing and beds very comfy. Two very nice private tables to eat outside or in.

On our Kileaua visit, we biked 8 miles down the county road to watch lava pouring into ocean at dark. Next day, hiked through lush forest, then into Iki crater. Later, drove down crater road to see lava tubes and another vista of lava pouring into ocean. That night we watched lava boiling in lava lake. Wow!!!

Amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is so adorable and online pictures cannot convey this accurately. This was our favorite place to stay during our trip. The cottage is so cozy that you almost don't want to leave it to explore the island -- but we did. Dining options are a little scarce close to the cottage so you just need to keep that in mind. We chose to grab food at the grocery store and use the outdoor grill. The property was so clean and well maintained. The welcome gift (fresh pineapple & bananas - yum!!) was greatly appreciated. It definitely took care of our breakfast needs. The island is big but we were able to explore all of it from this location. It was nice being so close to the National Park and being able to see the lava at night and the sunrise in the morning. I would definitely recommend staying here and hope to return very soon!!!

The best place on the Big Island!

  • 5 of 5

Are you looking for a cozy yet spacious, private, romantic, comfortable place to stay?

Do you like Hot Tubs?

Look no further.

Tucked away in the Volcano neighborhood this 2bdr house was a spectacular part of our 2.5 day stay on the big Island.

The house is super clean, decorated to a lovely extent, fantastic bedding, some light snacks were provided, kitchen essentials present, and the hot tub clean and HOT. The property is surrounded on all sides by trees and bushes. Really makes it feel like you're in the Hawaiin jungle.

The closest neighbors can be seen slightly on one side through the brush, but were pretty out of site.

Would absolutely come back to this place if staying on the Hilo side of the island again.
