Lovely old villa, perfectly located

  • 5 of 5

This villa is located at the lower edge of Jimena, giving you lovely views of the Craig's and valley on the other side of the river ( which is dry, at the moment). You also have easy access to 2 grocery stores and a butcher shop, plus several restaurants. We found La Tasca, just at the edge of the park/plaza, very very agreeable, both for well prepared food and for the wonderful owners: Pepe and Victoria.

The villa itself is enchanting. It was built and furnished with love and charm , many objects from many travels. You can spend days just reviewing all the pieces of art, the amazing book collection, and the furnishings. It is a true treasure chest to explore. However if you are expecting a modern villa, this is not for you. It is an older house with many quirks, which we found endearing, but might not be for everyone.

That said, it is in a beautiful setting, perfectly easy to adapt to for longer stays( plenty of knives and a sharpener), well protected from village sounds ( one can watch the goats being herded to and fro from their grazing area, some way way up in the rocky Craig's). The house is amazingly well soundproof with the windows closed. No barking dogs, no motorcycles. Lots of cheerful birds nesting in the beautiful trees outside. The pool area is lovely and very private( if cold, we were there the end of Oct).

I would go back in a heartbeat and we very much enjoyed Jimena. This is a village very much alive , the expats living there very well integrated, and living there full time. We found the village people much friendlier than in some other hill towns, and genuinely so. And this village doesn't " close up" when the expats are not there as many others seem to. This is our third time in Andalusia, staying 2 months or more, and I have to say that Jimena would be one of my very favorite places, in large part because of the people. And of course, this lovely old well loved villa. Thank you, Elisa. Kristine and Santiago

Unique rural house

  • 3 of 5

The house is located on walking distance from Jimena village, which is small but charming. The house itself is wounderfull and decoriations are marvellous. The patio and pool were just great. Only the wild cats were too many and they were really demanding.

Unfortunatley the lack of aircondition was obvious. The water was not drinkable. All selfs, lockers and tables were full of owners personal things. Kitchen was big in size, but difficult to operate, because the basic stuff was missing: sharp knives, scissors, etc.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay in the house wery much, but there are still room for improvements in all above mentioned areas.

charming villa well-equiped with great kitchen

  • 4 of 5

we stayed in Elisa's villa between Christmas and New Year. The house is ideal for large groups, has a great open floor plan with a large kitchen and a spacy living room with plenty of seating. There are plenty of outdoor places where you can enjoy the sun. Although the 3 bathrooms are a luxury, because the house is fully dependent on a sunboiler only on the warmest and suniest day we had sufficient warm water for the entire group. This was not the end of the world for us, but an additional electric boiler could make this an excellent house also during the winter months!

Owner's Response: Dear Gertjan, Thank you for your review. I am sorry that you might have been short of hot water, of course being a large group, our solar system can struggle to provide the necessary amount of hot water, especially in winter. This said, we normally do not run the house on solar for large groups in winter, and we have a backup gaz system which I would been more than happy to switch on had I know the it was not turned on. Sorry about this inconvenience and I am really happy that you enjoyed your stay. All the best. Elisa
