Montana River Lodge is a wonderfully inspiring and relaxing facility available to couples, families, fishing or corporate groups by reservation. We are located on 25 acres of private Clark Fork River frontage completely surrounded by hundreds of acres of gated state forest. A wide array of activities and an opportunity to enjoy the wonderful beauty of Western Montana awaits you. We are located just downstream from the best whitewater rafting in Montana. The world famous "Alberton Gorge" is a thrilling class 3, ten mile stretch of big waves, sandy beaches, and amazing scenery. The lodge overlooks a spectacular river setting with great fishing, swimming, volleyball, horseshoes, sports field, and a huge bonfire area.
Fishing at the lodge uniquely combines terrific trout size in good numbers and very low fishing pressure. Our easement provides private access to over two miles of rarely fished trophy trout stream. Rainbow, Cutthroat, Brown, and Bull trout average 15 to 20 inches with some over ten pounds.
The beach has several sandbars, a perfect spot to sunbathe while the kids play in the river. Have you ever tried gold panning? The beach has some 'color' that is fun to swirl in a pan and gives you the feeling of a 'gold rush'. Eagles and osprey often soar over the river pool formed by the cliffs on the shore across from the lodge. Watch them swoop down on an unsuspecting trout.
The open hillsides on the mountains across the river provide opportunities to see deer and elk through a spotting scope or binoculars. Get a magnified view of the eagles and osprey as they perch in the trees or in nearby nests. We are surrounded by thousands of acres of forest with numerous mountain lakes. Endless miles of trails and roads provide opportunity for hiking or riding bikes and atvs. The river provides miles of amazing fishing and floating pleasure. Located just 40 miles west of Missoula, we provide a spacious, secluded, and private atmosphere for those looking to get away or just relax in an enviorrnment of cozy comfort. Let us know how we can make your vacation a truly memorable experience.
We designed and built the lodge in 2002 and operated a teen home for 9 years. In our design and western decor we have incorporated our interest in fishing, hunting and the Montana outdoor experience.
The Owner purchased this lodge in 2002
While floating the river one day, we found this amazing setting on the famous Alberton Gorge whitewater canyon. The undeveloped site was completely surrounded by hundreds of acres of state forest offering the ultimate in privacy in our end of road location. The forest around us is closed to automotive use, resulting in a nature preserve offering quiet walks, mountain biking, horseback riding, snowshoeing, or x-country skiing. The scenic setting is simply stunning. Guests repeatedly tell us the views of the river and mountains result in relaxation and rejuvenation. We watch eagles and osprey gliding over the river from our deck daily. The river allows an amazing assortment of water sports including fishing, rafting, kayaking, swimming, tubing, and boating. The natural flat below the lodge made a perfect area for our sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits, sports field, bath house, and bonfire ring. The large lawn areas overlooking the river are available for events such as outdoor weddings.
There is a fruit orchard and berry patch with raspberries and strawberries for snacking. We have several tubes and life jackets for enjoying the river. There is a 14 foot self-bailing raft, float tubes, fly rods and a drift boat available for rental.
This really is a perfect getaway location for any groups/parties that are looking to see Western Montana at it's finest! Although it's less than an hour drive from Missoula, the seclusion, privacy and beauty of the lodge will make you feel like you've driven days into the wilderness. The owner, Ray, was very helpful, accommodating and reasonable throughout the entire process. You really can't go wrong with this rental.
There were 5 couples and 4 children in our group, and everyone had a great time, as there is plenty to do inside and outside of the house. In addition to nice, clean, private bedrooms, the kitchen was fully loaded with everything we needed to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as even do some baking. When it got dark, we spent most of our time in the garage, which is heated, where we had intense ping-pong and fuse-ball tournaments. There is also a ladder ball and folf goal that can easily be set up outside during the day.
During the day, it's a quick, beautiful walk down to the Clark Fork River, which is private and as gorgeous as it gets (the only thing we saw moving down there was the train and a black bear!). We also took advantage of hiking in the 30-square mile national forest adjacent to the property, and we did a scenic 4-mile raft trip down the Clark Fork as well. Although we didn't get a chance to fly fish, we saw plenty of trout in the holes located close to the lodge.
The house is fully stocked with whatever you need, and we had no complaints in regards to anything being dirty or broken. Again, I highly recommend this property, as it will not disappoint!
What an amazing property!! The perfect place to get away from it all. Located on a very private, huge property, it was perfect for our group of 8. The place had it all! Plenty of games for the kids, a huge lawn to play in, a bonfire pit, a great wrap-around deck with great views and private river access. Ray (the owner) was great to work with and made sure all of our request were met. He even went out of his way and purchased baby gates for us to have in the house! A really nice guy with lots of local knowledge of fishing spots. The only thing not mentioned in the posting is that a 4 wheel drive vehicle is necessary to drive down to the river and back. It's a really short walk down to the water, but a car is nice if bringing down chairs, cooler, etc.. I'd highly remmomencd it to anyone looking for a quiet, peaceful time in the woods.
This house is as described. Big and in a beautiful location. Plenty of room for up to 30 comfortably. The bunk house is enormous. The owner was very helpful to our boys that were fishing and looking for good spots due to high water from run off. We did day a day trip to glacier national park which was about 3 hours away, but so much to see on the way! We also did a 4hr horseback ride with Rugg's outfitters which was excellent and white water rafted with Lewis and Clark which was also great! The area is beautiful but be prepared to drive if you want to see anything. Missoula is about 40-45 minutes away from lodge. Quiet and serene location and very relaxing.
Although there were only four of us in the party, we had a relaxing, wonderful vacation, "getting away from it all." Played horseshoes on the full sized, dual pits, volleyball, hiking, rafting, horse back riding, poker at night, etc. We are not fishermen, but evidently the river offers world-class fishing. If you want huge (sleeps 30), quiet, yet plenty of room for gargantuan weddings, family reunions, fishing groups, this is the place.
The location of this house is a perfect place to gather with family and friends. It had all the amenities needed to host 16 of us for a family wedding. We had a great time gathering for meals and the layout of the kitchen dining area gave everyone plenty of space to gather and prepare. Fishing was enjoyed as well as walking along the river enjoying the serene setting in the mountains.
Every year I organize a trip for a group of friends who get together to enjoy fishing, golfing, and dining and we select a different location every year. Of all the places we have stayed over the years, this is by far the best! Wonderful scenery, solitude, and accommodations. I would recommend this to any fisherman or to any family who just wants to get away and relax.
Our lodge is located 40 miles from Missoula, at the Tarkio Exit 61, about 1 mile off of I-90 on the Clark Fork River. There is excellent fishing on our property and on the river above and below us. The Alberton Gorge is a very popular class 3 whitewater stretch that ends just upstream from the lodge. A thrilling ride awaits the adventurer on a raft ,kayak, or bogieboard. The section of river from the lodge downriver is perfect for gentle floating on a raft, canoeing or tubing. We are surrounded by state and national forest lands, and there are numerous trails for hiking, horseback riding, mountain bikes, ATVs or even snowshoeing in the winter. Our beach is the ultimate swimming hole or the pefect place for a sunny afternoon nap. Mountain bikes are available at Lookout Pass for touring the famous Hiawatha Trail thru tunnels and over trestles. The National Bison Range is a favorite day trip. The nearby historic Jesuit Mission has amazing frescos and an informative history of early mission work among the local native tribes. But above all else, the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery is the highlight of all these activities.
