Garden Court Oasis

  • 4 of 5

This property has incredible charm from the stone house with its kitchen hearth and chimney intact to the green courtyard with its views to the surrounding hills. Paulo was an incredibly attentive host and assisted immediately with the small problems we encountered (the electrical service is modest and we blew the main breaker by running the two burner electric cooktop and the toaster oven at the same time). There is a four burner gas cooktop and wood-burning barbecue in the courtyard and you can virtually live outdoors here. Faial da Terra is close to some of the best hiking in Sao Miguel and much is accessible without driving or with must a short drive. Don't miss Sanguinho which is just above Faial da Terra in the valley. We left with many happy memories.

We LOVED Casa Santa Rita

  • 5 of 5

The property was clean and spacious, plenty of room for us. There is a double bedroom on the first floor and an upstairs loft with two singles and a crib. The outdoor kitchen and courtyard were amazing. We probably spent 85% of our time there enjoying the fire and sharing meals.

We enjoyed watching a town/church celebration while we were there. The roads were closed and decorated with fresh cut greenery and flowers as clergy, church members and musicians proceeded through town.

Paolo is a great host. He met us at a nearby hotel so we could follow him to the property. He was also kind enough to leave us with a few staples to begin our stay.

Highly recommend hiking to the waterfall. Ribeiro Quente, a beautiful black sand beach, is worth a trip as well.

We look forward to returning to Casa Santa Rita in the future.

A true gem of a cottage nesstled in the mountains by the sea

  • 5 of 5

The property was incredibly charming. A restored stone house with so much character and simple beauty. Paulo was incredibly helpful and welcoming. He insured our 17 month old daughter had what she needed for a good stay as well with a crib and bedding, high chair and baby bath. She loved her warm baths under the palm tree in the courtyard surrounded by mountains and birds. We loved the outdoor kitchen area and the house was equipped with all that you needed. If you have a small child, you would just have to get creative in blocking the staircase upstairs and the roof top rails are not suitable for little ones playing unsupervised. This house was so very quiet and the stars we saw each night were magnificent.

The village is very quiet with one restaurant and a bar as well as a small supermarket- all easy walking distance. The locals in the village were all quite friendly and looked their finest at Sunday mass.

Our only suggestion to Paulo is to get silicone cooking utensils to ensure his new induction pots don't get scratched up. :-)

Note that roads are quite windy in and out of Faial da terra and most of the island as well.

The hiking from the property was fantastic. It also makes great trail running.

We loved our time at this property, and we certainly would not hesitate to stay at Paulo's again! We look forward to coming back soon!

Thank you to Paulo!

far away but close enough

  • 4 of 5

The property is charming old fashioned clean and functional if you are into modern then it is the opposite. Its seclusion its endearing quiteness in a village with spectacular scenery is the peace we were looking for .The property has all the basic amenities in a village that replicates typical old fashioned values warm people. You will need a car otherwise you cannot get anywhere but on a typical 5- 7 day stay you can see all it is not a beach holiday although there are beaches but you can simply stroll day to day or hike as you wish a walkers paradise.Weather is mixed never cold but the higher up the more risk of cloud . Dont forget it is a volcanic island easily accessible Iceland with warm temperatures but not hot and you can bathe in the volcanic pools.Food and drink cheap a real bonus eating out half the price of the UK basic food inexpensive -petrol slightly more expensive than the UK

Azore Ladie's Adventure 2016

  • 5 of 5

Myself and 2 other American female friends recently returned from our first amazing trip to the Azores! This was the second home we stayed at during our time on Sao Miguel, we stayed at two different areas of the island to make the most of our time. This home is everything that the pictures show and more! When we arrived Paulo (Owner) met us to go over the basics, he was extremely friendly and helpful during our entire stay. He provided some complimentary meat, cheese, and bread when we arrived and fresh bread was delivered every morning! We spent the majority of our time on the beautiful patio, even when it was raining we enjoyed the covered patio and outdoor cooking. The sleeping accommodations were perfect for 3 people, there are 3 beds. One full size bed downstairs and 2 beds upstairs in a loft (1 Full, 1 Single). We adored the town of Faial Da Terra, it is small, gorgeous, and friendly! There is only one market, one café, and one bar. We made most of our meals at the house so we could enjoy the patio. There was a Festa happening in town while we were there and everyone was very welcoming. One of our highlights for this trip was the hike up to the Salto do Prego waterfall, it is well worth the hike! The trail literally starts right in front of the house, the trail map is across the street. We were lucky, we went mid week and there was hardly anyone else on the trail. We noticed that on the weekends the trail became busier. The only tiny drawback to this location is that the roads getting to Faial Da Terra are very winding, taking longer than expected to get places. We would gladly return to this home in the future! Thanks again Paulo for sharing your beautiful home!

Tolles Häuschen in ruhigem Ort

  • 5 of 5
