Perfect place to stay
We had a lovely few days in Ginevra’ house on Ortigia. It is perfectly located and nicely decorated. We enjoyed dinners on the roof terrace and cool rooms downstairs when we needed to escape the heat. Very comfortable for 6 of us.

Artistic home from home in great location
This is a beautiful home full of artistic touches and gives the impression of living in your own little part of the beauty that is Ortigia. Alberto was great and gave us lots of tips about where to eat etc and parking - we always found free parking near the house ( we had 2 cars). The great Ortigia market is a 2 minute walk and so we bought fresh figs and honey and ricotta for breakfast every morning and cooked in the evenings - lovely stalls selling super fresh fish and shellfish.. there isn’t an oven but big pans and lots of utensils so cooking was enjoyable- we ate on the top terrace as the sun set and the swifts came out to fly across the city. We would then walk into the city -beautiful streets and squares, the sea and harbour, live music at the weekend, lots of gelatos, cafes bars and restaurants, shops - very lively and pleasant- everything was open until around midnight and safe for everyone - lots of kids up late, a lovely atmosphere. Everyone very friendly. The house had 3 bathrooms and so was good for our larger party. Was super clean, good WiFi and some English programmes on sky atlantic.... you can walk to the town beach - we swam everyday and called in to our fave cafe for Granita on the way back. A beautiful house in a beautiful city - soak up the Sicilian life and magic of Ortigia.

Great little place.....
As soon as we walked into the house, we knew we’d made a great choice. Not only was the apartment in a great location in Ortigia, Alberto was on hand to give us some really good recommendations for restaurants etc. The house is literally 3 minutes walk from the daily local market where you can buy the most amazing produce such as ricotta, Italian meats, fresh fruit and veg then you can stop off for a little drink and fresh Frito misto in a cone - truly delicious. Local restaurants are plentiful with choices ranging from pizza, pasta to more traditional Sicilian dishes. Great wine and of course limoncello (if you see it with mint then try it as it is fantastic). In terms of the house, I can honestly say that Ginevra has thought of everything. We had all the household items we needed (hand soap, toilet roll, washing up liquid, washing machine detergent, bbq fuel, bin bags). Everything you could possibly want for a home from home. It is possible to find free parking near the house, however if the ZTL is active it can be more of a challenge. We parked over the weekend in Talete and it was fine. All in all we had great stay and would absolutely recommended renting this property.

Fabulous holiday in a gorgeous house in Ortigia
We had a fantastic holiday in Genevra’s beautifully restored house in Ortigia. It is ideally located - the sea & market are around the corner & it is a short walk to the Duomo, shops, bars & restaurants. It is a spacious house with good facilities - excellent wifi, 3 double bedrooms & 3 bathrooms , a lovely roof terrace & 2 kitchens - we cooked in both, eating on the terrace or ground floor depending in the weather, after shopping daily at one of the best food markets I’ve ever visited - Wonderful seafood, fruit, vegetables, spices, wine, cheese , olive oil etc - so much to choose from. Check in and out was very easy & Alberto who was managing the house for Ginevra was extremely helpful to us, giving us advice on restaurants, places to visits & the ins & outs of parking on The island. Ortigia is a lovely place to visit & I would recommend staying here if you want to experience real Ortigian living.

Happy visit
We enjoyed our stay in the property and the town . It was very convenient and close to every attraction. Only 5 minutes walk from an almost 3,000 year old temple! Accommodation comfortable, clean and well equipped. Great having the little terrace and the two kitchens. Alberto who welcomed us was incredibly helpful. Loved Ortigia. Air conditioning units were amazingly quiet. The main sunny bedroom a bit noisy every morning between 6.00 am and 8.15 due to builders nearby, something out of Ginerva’s control. Back bedroom very quiet.

About the host

Hosted by Ginevra

Host profile image
Ginevra Lovatelli the owner of this property is Roman art historian, interior decorator and tourist guide and fell in love with Ortigia almost 10 years ago. Her dream to have a place to stay here came finally true when she bought this little building that she has restored and decorated with a lot of passion. A personal and sophisticated touch is given also by her Flemish husband’s artworks spread all over the place!

What makes this property unique

The apartment is spacious and except for one bedroom at the first floor is very bright. Furniture and decoration are simple and unique thank to the paintings of Ginevra's husband and the old pieces she personally found restored and recicled to create unusual pieces of furniture.
On the top floor a lovely terrace overlooking the rooftops is accessible climbing four more steps from the summer kitchenette. Here you can relax sunbathing, reading a book, sipping fresh Sicilian squeezed oranges or having a barbecue and few glasses of a good wine with your family or friends.
Located few steps away from the little, charming square “della Graziella” which takes its name from the old neighborhood between the ruins of the stunning Greek temple dedicated to Apollo and the colorful open air market. Few steps away from cafes, shops and two of the best restaurants in town.
A 5 minutes walk brings you to the closest access to the sea Forte Vigliena where you can relax swimming in clean water and sunbathing on big rocks or on the typical wooden platforms even if you are in the historical centre of a city!
A 10 minutes walk will bring you in the famous square of the Cathedral and a 15 minutes walk to the romantic spot of the mythological spring “Fonte Aretusa”
