About Tessa and David Nelson
We are Tessa and David Nelson, we met when David was a captain on the boats and I was a chef on a sailing yacht. David is now a carpenter and I am an artist and a chef. We both grew up in England although David has lived here since he was 19 and I have lived abroad for most of my adult life. We love it here and have a small boat we go out on, and when David's son Jack is with us we go canyoning, kayaking, canoeing and all sorts, there is so much to do here. I am currently teaching water colour classes and painting trips in provence. If you would like to know more about the Water Colour Trips please visit my site: www.paint-provence.com. Or if you would like cooking or art lessons on your stay here let me know and we can organise something.
Tessa and David Nelson purchased this Apartment in 1990
Why Tessa and David Nelson chose Lorgues
This is an unique independent apartment full of country charm, friendly, our property is unspoiled the original provencal building, I think this is why we love it so much, it is authentic and endearing. The nearby views of endless hills and mountains are breathtaking. We live near to the beautiful river Argens which is delicious to swim in in the heat of the summer or go canoeing for the day on with a picnic. We are only 40 minutes drive from the spectacular Gorges du Verdun, and as I am an artist and painting outside is my favourite thing to do, fields of lavender, poppies and summer promise are my idea of pure bliss, not to mention the fabulous produce you can get in the markets. Fresh costs cheese and plump tomatoes with basil and local olives. Olive groves all around for that matter, delicious local olive oil. Fabulous vineyards and wine tastings. I fell in love with this area in 1985 when I first came to the South of France and here we are still.
What makes this Apartment unique
The property is so pretty, being surrounded by nature and calm is just wonderful. The village is not far and it is fun to cycle there. It is very private and we are not disturbed by anyone.
Pool / Spa
Relaxing. Beautiful. A great family holiday.
So we spent 10 days here in August 2018.
The farmhouse was just what we were looking for for a holiday as a family of 4.
Not only was the property beautiful to look at, but had all the amenities we needed.
We had concerns after previously doing eurocamp holidays that the children may be a bit bored being in a secluded house with just us 4, but the pool helped us with that. It was a great size and had a lovely shaded seating area by it as well as sun beds in the sun, so we could sit and relax in or out of the sun.
Plus the patio area provided us a great space to eat lunch or dinner but also to play board and card games, and the large grassy area was good for the kids to run about/ play hide and seek or ball games, as well as playing with the owners playful dogs.
The owners were friendly but non intrusive and gave us great advice of places to visit.
Lorgues town was only a 5-10 minute drive and had a great weekly market on a Tuesday morning and plenty of restaurants to eat.
The vineyard opposite also had a ‘go-ape’ style treetop adventure centre which was good fun, and something to do if you didn’t want a day of driving out and about.
We also visited Lac de St Croix and the Gorge which was about 50 minutes drive, and was a definitely a must see, where we swam in the lake and hired a boat. Absolutely gorgeous views.
We also visited the village of villacroze where the park and caves were great, and the village of Tourtour is a must see if you like a good view!!!
We were also about 45 minutes from the coast.?Although the bigger resorts of Frejus/ St Tropez / Nice are within easy reach we chose Saints Maxime as we knew these bigger ones would be very busy in peak time. It was a lovely beach and had all you needed for a day at the beach.
All in all a fantastic holiday and would definitely recommend to those wanting to explore this area of Provence, and I would visit and stay here again. If I have to be negative about anything... it would be the mosquitoes!!! But we have no control over those, so just ensure you have repellant and candles!!
Thank you Tessa and David for sharing your beautiful home so we could enjoy it. Hope to see you again sometime.

Thank you Pip, Chris, Molly-Mayand Erin,
I knew you were going to have a great time from the moment I met you. It is a great pleasure for us to know that we can help our visitors enjoy there time here and it makes it all so worthwhile.
We have had an occasional rain shower about once a week this summer, which is unusual, it has kept everything nice and green but also has meant quite a few of the small mosquitoes, we are now making sure there are the coils to burn around the outside table in the evening which keeps them away.
Looking forward to seeing Pip and family again, David and Tess,
A picturesque and full of character property with peace and tranquility. All amenities excellent
A big thank you to David and Tessa for all their help and advice on making our stay so enjoyable. The property had everything we needed with the bonus of relaxing time by the pool and their friendly dogs. The property is in an excellent location to explore the region from the coast to the Gorge Du Verdon, with lots of amazing villages with their own unique character. Will be back to discover more of the region.
The ideal holiday
We had a wonderful holiday in Tess & David’s house near Lorgues.
The house is charming, spacious and well-equipped and Tess & David are the ideal hosts (not to mentioned the two sweetest dogs whom we loved playing with...)
There is lots to do and see (We’ve been to Nice, Gorge Du Verdon, St Paul de Vence) and a great supermarket five minutes away by car. Lorgues, ten minutes away, is a sweet little town (amazing ice cream!) and the market on Tuesday mornings is one of the best markets we’ve been to. As importantly, the house is perfect for lazy days by the pool.
We hope to back again soon!

Great place to relax!
Had a really relaxing two weeks at this lovely house in gorgeous surroundings. Enjoyed the private pool every day and sitting in the various shady areas outside. There are several wineries in the area, the supermarket is a short drive away in the lovely town of Lorgues with it's weekly market. Our hosts were charming and so were their two cute little dogs. This property was everything we hoped for and more!
Wonderful Rustic Provence retreat
We had a wonderful week in this property just minutes from Lorgues. Accomodation was great and ideal for a family holiday, with all amenities and a great pool and area. Hosts David and Tessa were fantastic, and very welcoming to us and our two young children. We did not want to leave this beautiful part of the world, and hope to return at some point in the future.
Absolutely amazing ! Totally relaxing and peaceful.
This is one of those reviews that you don't want to write for fear of everyone wanting to book and making our next booking harder to make!
If you are after a beautiful, peaceful getaway in a wonderful setting in this part of France then you will not be disappointed. David and Tessa will make you feel extremely welcome and have provided a home with all that you need to relax. The pool is a major bonus to chill out by and the surrounding area is great to explore. Lorgues is a very friendly local town/village and can be reached within minutes by car. Great weekly market and friendly bars/restaurants.
The setting is amazing - surrounded by vineyards and countryside, yet access to the beaches and Lac de St Croix are around an hour away.
Hopefully I have conveyed how much we enjoyed it, if you want a peaceful, getaway from it holiday, then you may well have found it !
Thank you for your review Andy, it was a pleasure to meet you and your enjoyment of the property is very rewarding for us. Looking forward to meeting you again.
