American kitchen with french farmhouse table, Conservatory, library and sitting-room with large wood-burner.

Rambling gardens, large parking, outside table-tennis, private swimming pool. Wonderful walking country with bridle paths, rivers, woods and streams. St. Benoit du Sault is one of the prettiest villages in France and right on your doorstep at a few minutes drive with everything you may need - including a medieval ramble in an unspoilt environment.

Attractively restored spacious farmhouse and large private pool with Roman steps. Set in the heart of undiscovered France with undulating countryside, forests, streams and lakes. Ideal for a large family/friends holiday where the local facilities range from lake with games, horse-riding, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, golfing, climbing and fishing. There are also plenty of local restaurants to be visited along with medieval chateaux. Situated in a hamlet on the edge of The Brenne National Park with its a thousand lakes, Le Catalpa is the perfect base for relaxing round the pool, bird watching, nature trails and basically getting away from it all.

This is an old farmhouse with all its nooks and crannies, imperfections and character.

The house was fantastic, traditional French feel with everything you need for your holiday.

We had an amazing holiday of 2 families, with the large garden, pool and added extras for the kids in the garden (table tennis, boules etc) there was plenty to keep everyone occupied. The farm house was a real treat - far bigger than we expected with all the home comforts. Very rural so a car is a must, but overall an amazing holiday.

An Idyllic Escape

Just what we wanted for the extended family; young ones in the old farmhouse and a cottage for the grandparents! It's got it all: lovely gardens, great swimming pool, table tennis and an excellent library. There's something for everyone in this lesser-known and unspoilt area of central France; the restaurants are good value too.

Idyllic, once again!

We are so enchanted by ‘Le Catalpa’ that we’ll be returning for our 3rd consecutive year in 2018. ‘We’ are a family of 5 adults, 2 young children and 3 dogs and this beautiful setting provides everything we could wish for. The farmhouse is homely, well-equipped, in a beautiful, quiet setting and with a heated, private and secluded swimming pool. Within easy travelling distance are beautiful wooded areas, horse riding stables, traditional markets, bakers and restaurants and lakes with swimming, boating and water-skiing facilities. Next year we hope to enjoy some of the local festivals, fireworks displays and brocantes which take place during the month of August. However, we all agree that the highlight of our holiday is to sit under the magnificent Catalpa tree and share relaxed, family time together in the peace and tranquillity of its shade. Idyllic!

Superb Rustic Hideaway

We had a wonderful relaxing family holiday at La Catalpa, tucked away in the countryside on the Southern edge of the Brenne National Park. Most of our trips out were up into the Brenne with its many lakes and walks. The rest of the time was spent relaxing in the huge garden and by the swimming pool. As is made clear in the description, part of the charm of La Catalpa is that it isn't an sterile modern holiday villa, it's an authentic old farmhouse. Eating outside in the shade of the tree that gives the house its name was a particular pleasure. Saint-Benoît-du-Sault is the nearest town and well worth a visit not just for supplies & petrol from its SuperU supermarket but also the lovely medieval old town. It was all a perfect match for us.

Great place for a relaxing holiday!

We spent 3 weeks at le Catalpa, and were joined by our family for about 10 days. The house easily accommodated 6 adults and 2 small boys and was well equipped with everything we needed. Thank you to Rosalind for supplying a cot, highchair and even an inflatable boat for the pool!

We spent many happy hours in and around the pool and playing hide and seek in the garden.

A beautiful part of France! St Benoît du Sault is a lovely little town, and was very convenient for the Supermarket, Boulangerie, Post Office, Pharmacy and other shops.

Le Catalpa was the perfect place for a special family holiday!

We can only echo and endorse the very complimentary reviews made by previous visitors to Le Catalpa, which was the perfect accommodation for our family of 5 adults, 2 young children and 3 dogs. This wonderful house (with its lovely gardens and secluded pool) set in a pretty, rural area of France and within easy access of local villages and lakes is to be wholeheartedly recommended. Everything, including the weather, was idyllic. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our week’s holiday “chez Rosalind” and the Catalpa tree holds many happy memories for all of us.

Situated on the edge of three counties you can profit from a diverse range of activities. Poitiers is about an hour away famous for the fantastic cinematographical center of Futuroscope and Limoges an hour further South with its beautiful cathedral and of course plenty of opportunities to purchase gifts of the outstanding Limoges porcelain. It is also an area of great historic interest. The important chateau at Chateauguillaume is a fifteen minute drive and further afield the Chateau of Sarzay which is the process of being restored to its full glory. In a wonderful setting with four towers it is well worth a visit. Or visit the valley of frescoes between St. Savin and Saulge.

The Brenne Natural Park

The Brenne Natural Park with its thousand lakes is a vast conservation area dotted with lakes and criss-crossed with bridle-paths. There are organised hikes or you can simply set out on your own with a map. At the Maison de la Brenne, there is an interpretive center where visitors can learn about the region, its ancient traditions of fish farming and nature conservation. A day out to visit the vast lake at Eguzon is a must. The lake stretches for twenty-five kilometers and is the perfect place where you can learn to water-ski, sail and windsurf. There are several beaches for swimming and restaurants with a wonderful choice of menus.


For a day out shopping Chateauroux at 50 kilometres has all the major supermarkets selling food, clothes, sports gear at Decathlon etc.etc. Not far is the ancient town of Montmorillon on the edge of the Gartempe with its 'Cite de L'Ecrit' - everything to do with the art of the book - there are also many historic churches to visit in this town along with a famous chocolatier Ranno-Metivier. Here also is a huge hypermarket where you can buy food, wine, clothes, kitchenware etc. The pretty town of Argenton-Sur-Creuse is well worth a visit and is only twenty mintues away. The ancient houses sit on the banks of the river Creuse and the central square has a welcome cafe where you can sit out and watch the world go by in true french fashion.
