Malcesine is a very popular resort and accommodation is hard to come by unless you book well in advance. This property is functional and centrally located, being within easy walking distance of the Castle, harbours, cable car and the lake. It does not have air conditioning which is a luxury that we missed. However, you get what you pay for, and this property is good value for money, with commanding views over the lake, castle and mountains. Laura, our property manager at the time was patient, helpful, kind, considerate and organised our taxi pick up and drop off, taking all the stress out of our journey. You will find the local Italians enchanting and personable. If you want 5 star luxury, then this may not be the place for you, but if you are looking for affordability, value for money and still be on the doorstep of everything, then this is the place for you. One point to note is that as the property is so central and near the local Spa shop, you may well be disturbed quite early in the morning with deliveries to local shops and cafes. Ear plugs would benefit if you are not an early riser. The hot water system for showering was a bit temperamental, but there were 5 of us sharing and this might have had an impact, along with potential user error. A larger kettle for more than two people would also benefit. On the whole though, the overall service from Laura and Barbara was Magnifico. Gracie Mille!!
Malcesine is a small town on the eastern shore of Lake Garda in northern Italy. It's a picturesque tourist resort with cobbled streets and a castle, crammed between the blue lake waters and the massive mountain ridge behind, Monte Baldo. The town's ferry connections to other lakeside resorts make it a good base for sightseeing and the cable-car running up to Monte Baldo is a magnet for cyclists, walkers and paragliders.
Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy, and Malcesine lies towards the narrow and mountainous northern end, often compared to a fiord. The town is situated at the edge of the Veneto region, in the province of Verona.
There are pretty little squares, cafes and restaurants, gelaterie and shops selling handbags, shoes, limoncello and clothes. The main harbour is small, attractive, filled with boats and lined with cafes. A short distance away is the old port, the Porto Vecchio, a quieter spot with good lake views, curious sculptures and more restaur
