Policies Cancellations for any reason prior to 60 days before the check in date will receive a full refund, less a 10% processing fee. Cancellations within 60 days of check in are fully refundable, less a 10% processing fee, only if the travel dates are re-booked. There will be no refunds for power failures, weather related events, or non-functional equipment/appliances. We will make every possible effort to repair broken appliances/equipment, but make no guarantees. Refunds will only be issued per management’s discretion. Our overnight occupancy is for the number of people on your confirmation only. More than just the occasional visitor requires permission from the owners. We do not allow organized special events or celebrations such as parties, weddings, receptions, camping, etc. If you are having one of these events, please contact us and we can recommend appropriate locations. If the home is left in a condition that requires excessive cleaning and/or garbage removal, this will be deducted from your security deposit. The Garden Cottage is a non-smoking property. House Rules In Hawaii it is customary to remove shoes before entering. After the beach, please use the foot rinse faucet at the bottom of the main house stairs. This helps keep sand off of the Lanai and out of the house. For cleaning muddy hiking shoes, there is a brush next to the foot rinse faucet. Wet towels, bathing suits, and clothing should be hung over the lanai rail or in the bathroom. Please, do not hang them on lamps or furniture. Additionally, do not sit on furniture with wet or damp suits and towels. Mold is a serious problem here in Hawaii. When using the washer and dryer, please keep in mind all the sand and red dirt we have in Kauai. Shake all towels and garments well before washing or drying. Remove lint from the dryer before and after each use. Please think environmentally when using the washer and dryer. Please turn off inside house lights and fans when leaving the house to conserve energy and to protect wildlife (look up Shearwater Birds). Additionally, turn off ALL outside lights at night and keep your doors closed to prevent mosquitoes from entering. Please be respectful to our neighbors; have fun, but please keep music and play at a moderate volume. Please do not exceed 5 MPH down our driveway. Please help us to keep supplying flashlights, umbrellas, beach gear, and guide books by leaving them in the home when you leave. We at the Garden Cottage and the County of Kauai ask that you please not feed the chickens. They have become pests on the island and easily out number the human population. If you have any additional questions please feel free to ask. Mahalo, Katie, Beverly, & Doug Howland

Great authentic Hawaiian home feel.
We loved the area on the north shore and the cottage felt like we were living in an authentic Hawaiian home. We met the new owner and they were very eager to make improvements. The only downside was how damp the weather was. With no A/C it made things feel damp.
Great spot near Tunnels Beach
This is a great property for a solo traveler or a couple. It's super quaint which worked out great for us but if you have designs on cooking a lot beyond the bbq outside you may feel a little cramped. For us it was a cozy spot to sleep at night and the outdoor shower is a big plus to keep the place from getting too steamed out. Easy 5 minute drive to Hanalei but the road can be a little tricky in the dark. If you can try to schedule your arrival during daylight hours. Easy 3 minute drive to Tunnels Beach; we went late in the day around 4pm and had no trouble getting parking. It was perfect. Highly recommend the property. The larger house adjacent to the cottage is also for rent so the entire property would be a great booking for a larger family or group too. Definitely would go back!
North shore cottage
If you are looking to get away from it all, this property is a good option. It is near the end of the road, and several one lane bridges are between it and the nearest town. The cottage would be crowded with more than two, but is charming and clean. It has been well cared for by a long-time manager, who had some fans going for us before we arrived. A lovely and relatively unoccupied beach is just across the road and only 60 steps or so from the front door. Restaurants, groceries, etc. are only 7 miles or so away in Hanalei, and more things to do (if you want them) are another 7 miles or so further in Princeville.
Cute cottage in a beautiful area
We loved staying here. It had everything we needed. We picked it for its location to the Napali Coast.
Cons- tricky to find at check in (tucked behind a rental house, follow the stone path)
Overall highly recommend
What a Delight!
When we return to the island in the future, I will check the Cottage availability first before finalizing travel dates for our vacation. The cottage is so wonderful, beautiful, and delightfully minimalist yet well appointed, that it's being available will determine when we go.
Great little getaway
Such a wonderful stay! Great location! Would definitely do it again - highly recommend
