Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Conveniently located off Highway 49 in California's Gold Country, on a historic parcel known as Trabucco Gardens.

During the Gold Rush days, Trabucco Gardens was a parcel of land cultivated as a vegetable garden, while Forty-Niners discovered gold in the area. The historic rock walls on property mark the perimeter where the garden once grew.

The joy of discovery continues here today. Now you can discover the vast riches our universe has to offer. Trabucco Gardens, located on 17 private acres, provides you with a grand opportunity to stargaze in privacy using high-end, easy-to-use instruments. The robotic GO-TO telescopes are provided during your stay, and are included in the rental cost. This open, rural stretch of Highway 49, which is considered 'above the fog and below the snow', provides you with many clear night opportunities, even in winter.

The Trabucco Gardens House, newly constructed in 2007, is well appointed and available year round. Mariposa, the county seat, which is 10 miles south, has many essential services, along with many wonderful dining, shopping, and historic sight-seeing experiences. Yosemite National Park's West entrance is located about 45 minutes away up Highway 140 from Mariposa.

We provide housekeeping service (not daily maid service), before and after your stay. Courtesy towels, coffee, tea, cocoa, popcorn, and guest soap are provided to welcome you on the day you arrive. Personal key code access provides you with convenience and security. Along with a fold-away sofa bed in the living room, a queen-sized inflatable Aero-Bed is provided for extra sleeping accommodations.

Because of the rural nature of the area, there is abundant opportunity for wildlife sightings, such as deer, wild turkey, coyote, bobcat, birds of prey, and perhaps an occasional bear. Seasonal creeks at the North and South ends of the property flow during winter and spring. Make sure to leave some time in your schedule during your stay for stargazing too.

Using the telescopes, beautiful views of the Orion Nebula, Andromeda Galaxy, Hercules Cluster, and many other deep sky objects are yours to behold. The telescopes offer a TOUR mode, which takes you to the best and brightest objects in the sky during your stay. Stargazing doesn't get any easier than this.

What on EARTH are you waiting for? Go mining in the INFINITE FRONTIER above! An inspiring adventure of discovery for the young and the young-at-heart is here at Trabucco Gardens.

Third Stay Is a Charm

  • 5 of 5

Third time staying here, third time we had to leave wishing we could stay longer. I have yet to find a better home and/or better deal so close to Yosemite than Trabucco. A home that is secluded like this one, yet so close to one of America's greatest attractions, and for the price that you'll pay to stay here is very hard to beat. We had a moon-less final night here so the star-gazing, albeit cold, was really fantastic. If you live in a city you really do forget how many stars there are out there and there are fewer and fewer places in California where you can go to see the cosmos. Trabucco is one of those places.

We spent a day in Yosemite, a Saturday, and while slightly busy the crowds were nothing when compared to what you'll find in the summer. Sure access to the high country is limited but seeing the valley in winter is something that should not be missed. Last summer when we went to Yosemite we couldn't even find parking at Tunnel View, this time we had practically half the lot open for our choosing. The views with the snow capped Half Dome and the ice encrusted Bridalveil Falls were amazing. Don't let the fear mongering media scare you from visiting Yosemite in the winter, aside from one road being worked on the whole valley was open and nearly people free. Using Trabucco as a home base to explore Yosemite, the caverns, and rivers and lakes in the area is a no brainer.

Struck gold in Gold Country at Trabucco Gardens

  • 5 of 5

It is always difficult to expose one's discovery of greatness but it's unrealistic to think it will not be discovered anyhow. I think good people can encourage, embrace and sustain these treasures just as prior reviewers guided us to this beautiful property - Thank You!

This property is truly intended for those that want peace, remoteness, outdoor scenery, distance from the crowds and without losing an ounce of suburban comfort. The 2 Bdrm, 1.5 Bath., kitchen, Liv. Rm. cabin is extremely well thought-out and from an interior perspective is not a cabin at all. It is contemporary in style and amenities, very well kept and CLEAN! The unit is well heated, with a ceiling fan to break up the dryer air in the foothills, comfortable furnishings and appliances like home. A welcome basket of snacks welcomed us upon arrival and after a long drive. Clean and newer linens and blankets were provided and the only thing I'd recommend to remember to bring are beach towels for daily excursions.

The 17 acres are fenced from surrounding neighbor properties and offer a nice area to stroll and discover running creeks on both sides (we visited in Feb. '17), beautiful vegetation (lots of oak trees), deer, hawks, bats and other wildlife passing thru.

As for "Location", we found this property to be a great hub for daily outings. Up CA49 we discovered this winding hillside road with far off views into the horizon and across canyons. It took us through small historical villages (Coulterville, Bear Valley., and to CA120 to Groveland - a less direct entryway to Yosemite from the N.) and approx. 1.5 hrs. out, to the charming town of Sonora. To the south from the property CA49 took us into Mariposa in 10 minutes to a very friendly town and grocery store (plus simple restaurants and supply stores). Here CA49 intersects with CA140 for a direct route heading NE to Yosemite valley along the Merced River (approx. 1 hr.).

Every day on our trip was a paradox for us - what option was time best spent? Relax at the property and enjoy the tranquility, shades and colors of the day and sunsets on the covered porch, OR set out for daily excursions a short drive away.

Fortunately, our trip allowed for time doing both. Our weather was likewise adventurous and extreme (heavy rain/snow/wind) so we were only able to imagine coming back to experience the incredible star gazing apparatus/equipment offered to guests with thorough instructions on how to safely handle and enjoy.

Beautiful and peaceful place

  • 4 of 5

This place was very beautiful and peaceful. It is a good distance from Yosemite so we were able to hike all day in the park and come back to enjoy a relaxing evening. Everything was labeled so we knew where to find things.
