Underbow cottage, a former coach house, has been recently lovingly restored by a local interior designer but is still quirky and full of character. 200 metres from Moretonhampstead's centre it is located down an extremely peaceful, private lane. It has ample private parking for two cars, three at a push as you tumble out the front door. The house has its own first floor, south facing, fenced garden. It is not over looked and has views across to Dartmoor. Moreton is on the doorstep so you can walk to its centre for shops, tourist information, cafés and restaurants. If the sun is out the open air swimming pool is right there. There is an art gallery and car museum as part of the village. The cottage has everything you could need, a solid wooden kitchen with new large Rangemaster (Aga) cooker, a wood burning stove, full central heating and every bedroom has its very own en-suite, two of these are shower rooms and one is a bathroom. All the beds have 100% luxury cotton waffle duvets and white fluffy towels. There is wi fi and four flat screen televisions (two with integrated DVD players) in the house. It has been filled with masses of books, games and toys as well as everything you could need for cooking up a storm in the kitchen! We are pet friendly with plenty of circular walks straight from the doorstep.

Why Kimberly chose Moretonhampstead
As a forces family and of no fixed abode there was something about Dartmoor that drew us in. We love the stunning scenery, outdoor lifestyle and down to earth friendliness of Moretonhampstead. Underbow is comfortable and larger than you might think giving everyone space. Three ensuites really gives families their own privacy and is especially helpful if everyone is simultaneously trying to get ready for a wedding!
What makes this Cottage unique
This quiet property benefits from its own private parking for two cars right outside the front door. Parking is difficult in Moretonhampstead so this is such a bonus . It also boasts a south facing, first floor garden with views over Dartmoor-a private suntrap which isn't overlooked. Both of these are adjacent to Underbow which is a rarity in Moreton. The parking saves you the hassle and fee of using the pay and display car parks which can quickly get full especially at peak times. The woodburner, games, masses of toys, books and DVD's are there for your enjoyment. There are lots of wonderful places to visit close by whether it be hills or beaches, unique shops and delis, restaurants and cafes or the city of Exeter.

The property exceeded our, already high, expectations.
We stayed at Underbow Cottage in Moretonhampstead for one week from 5th October 2017. We were in Devon for our granddaughter's 8th Birthday and the property seemed perfect for our needs in terms of location and sleeping capacity. In actuality, the cottage exceeded our expectations and we quickly found that all possible needs and comforts had been anticipated and provided by the no doubt proud owner of this property. Each of the 3 bedrooms was en-suite and my wife and I were delighted to find that one of the bathrooms had a high spec walk-in shower, which was perfect for our mobility needs.
No kitchen item that we could possibly need was lacking and everything about the kitchen, and indeed the entire property, was clear to see quality.
Our grandchildren aged 8 and 4 found very many toys and games in the drawers and cupboards to keep them amused and the lounge TV set also had a DVD player with dozens of children's DVD's.
A lovely touch, especially after a long drive down to Devon from Essex was milk in the fridge, tea/coffee in the containers.......and a still warm lemon drizzle cake on a beautiful glass stand on the kitchen table.
A most remarkable amount of thought and care has gone into this property and I can assure anyone who may be considering renting this property that they most certainly would not be disappointed.
Thank you for your lovely review and so hope we can welcome you back when you see the grandchildren again. Gratifying to know the young childrens' toys are being given a second lease of life!
Lovely holiday cottage with everything we needed
Smashing house in a lovely area ideal for walking/touring Dartmoor
Beautiful, wonderful location and everything you need for a comfy stay!!
The cottage was very well equipped with high quality furnishings, and is in a fantastic location. Loads to see and do around Moretonhampstead and the village itself is really lovely with very friendly locals. All of the rooms were beautiful with comfy beds, and there was plenty to keep us entertained throughout our stay. Well worth a visit, we would recommend and would definitely return to Underbow Cottage!
An amazing little spot!
What can we say? Underbow Cottage really was a dream come true. The facilities at the cottage are second to none, and we didn't want for anything. It was the perfect spot for a relaxing week away with the family and our two dogs, who very much enjoyed the gorgeous walks in the area. This is a beautiful part of the world, and in all honesty, if you want to be car-less for a week, it's very easy not to leave Moretonhampstead as it has everything you need. Even a vets, which we had to make use of while we were there!
The house itself has three beautifully decorated bedrooms, a very well-equipped kitchen and some very comfy sofas for lounging on. Everywhere was extremely clean and well maintained. Kimberly, the owner, was also an absolute star in helping us with any questions we had, before and during our stay. She responded at lightening speed.
We loved the Horse and Union pubs, Berto's Italian and the local Co-Op is very well stocked. Nearby Lustleigh is very pretty with a lovely tea rooms, and Chagford is worth a drive too.
Beautiful cottage in great location
Stayed here for a week with my husband, sister in law, my daughter and her fiancé and our three dogs. The cottage is furnished to a high standard, is very comfortable and spacious and has everything you could want/need during your stay. We were very greatful for the lemon drizzle cake, tea, coffee and milk on arrival. Lots of little homely touches throughout the cottage. The weather could have been kinder to us but it didn’t stop us getting out on some lovely long walks with the dogs - they have slept since we got home this afternoon! There is a little garden in the back and we managed to park three cars in the parking space in the front. We had one meal in The White Hart which was delicious and the staff very friendly. There is a co op, butchers, tea room, another pub and several other shops in Mortonhampstead. I can highly recommend this cottage and would definately return in the future.
Underbow Cottage, New Year 2017
It is a great cottage, in a village that has everything, The Co-op is open all hours, there's a deli, butchers, newsagent and post office, plus a café serving excellent breakfast. Well located for exploring the local area. The cottage is particularly well fitted and comfortable and we were very pleased with the additions and replacements in the kitchen. parking for 3 cars is an asset.
We felt greater options for lighting in the lounge would improve the room - either dimmers for the main lights or some standard lamps, since the lighting was either extremely bright or too dim to comfortably read.
We were grateful for the travel cot, but wondered whether it should have had a mattress since it was quite a hard surface.
Glad you appreciated the new Rangemaster(Aga) that has just gone in. Noted about the lighting. I am afraid travel cots are quite firm by nature. It was a pleasure to have you back.
Moretonhampstead is an ancient market town situated on the edge of Dartmoor National Park in Devon. It sits in the shelter of hills on three sides and the beautiful Wray Valley on the fourth. No matter which road you take you cannot fail to be impressed by the breathtaking views. The town is about 15 miles from the cathedral city of Exeter and 40 min from the beaches. The town offers visitors opportunities for hiking, cycling, and pony trekking, fishing and just relaxing. There are a variety of cafes, pubs, local shops, tea shops and a wonderful Deli. There is also a heated outdoor public swimming pool open during the summer. There are many NT properties close by, one of them being Castle Drogo, only 7 miles away and the miniature pony centre for children is only 5 min away. Bovey Castle and Gidleigh Park are very near for a special treat.
