About Walter Bogumil

I retired in 2007 after 35 years of teaching at the University of Central Florida. My wife, is 'partially retired' as a forensic economist. We had intended to split our living between Florida and North Carolina but my wife's occupation did not permit us to do so.

Walter Bogumil purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Walter Bogumil chose Asheville Area

The area is secluded yet only a few minutes and about 3 miles from the Interstate 40. my wife is primarily responsible for the interior design and decor (much of which we brought back from trips abroad). The folks who clean our home do an outstanding job.

Relaxing Getaway for the Entire Family

  • 5 of 5

The entire rental process was an absolute dream. Walter was very prompt in answering any questions I had, gave great suggestions for places to visit and eat and gave explicit directions to the house. The house was cozy and clean, the views were stunning, and we were just far away from everything to truly relax. The house is perfectly located, tucked in the mountains with views like you would not believe, but only about a 15 minute drive to Black Mountain and 25 minutes to Asheville, using the fire road of course. The upgraded kitchen allowed us to cook most of our meals at the house and enjoy a wonderful family dinner nightly. The log cabin was spacious enough for five adults and baby. Everyone had a space where they could sit and read, whether in the reading loft, living room, or on the amazing deck overlooking the mountains. Everyone again this was one of the best houses we have stayed in for a vacation. We are already trying to figure out how we can come back in the fall to see all of the leaves. Thank you Walter for opening your beautiful home to us and allowing our family to get together and relax.

Very nice

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed 3 nights in the new, very clean, very nice log cabin. The kitchen is modern, plenty of living space, nice sized dining room table. Bathrooms are small but fine. It is a bit hard to find, and further from Black Mountain downtown area than we thought. But it was nicely positioned to drive in multiple directions for hiking, visit to Asheville, National forest, Grandfather mountain. Blue Ridge parkway, Boone. We love the mountains of North Carolina and this house did not disappoint.

GREAT HOME!!! Close to Asheville

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful wonderful home! A great place to rest and relax. Great rooms, loved the master bedroom, I probably could have crashed there for the better part of a day. The house is just minutes from Asheville, but situated in the mountains like you were a million miles away.

Walter's notes were perfect and put you at ease when sharing his home. Awesome kitchen. I love to cook, everything was there that I needed, though I did add a few seasonings to the spice cabinet.

Getting to the cabin is no problem, my phone GPS took me right in. We did use the fire road most of the time, its much easier and quicker to Black Mountain and Asheville.

My wife loved the house and was ready to move in!

Thanks Walter, for make your home available.

Very satisfied

This review is a little late...

I rented this cabin to stay with some friends for a weekend. We loved it. It was very nice and clean and could accommodate a lot of people, although we only had 3 total. The notes posted around the cabin were helpful. The view from the back porch was gorgeous and exactly what we needed from our weekend retreat. We all agreed we would rent this cabin again if it's available for our next friend get-together.

The only negative part of the experience, which had nothing to do with the cabin and was really my fault, was that we had a little bit of a hard time finding it when we first arrived and on our last night, because we were stupidly relying on GPS. I recommend you stop and get a map.

Owner's Response: Sorry for the confusion, I discovered that even the local tax assessor has incorrectly marked the location of our street! That's why I provide a "step-by-step" set of written directions to our home. It is a strange situation but, this year I found that even my GPS agrees with the tax assessor (in error) so it's a good idea to print out my directions for a safe and easy visit.

A beautiful get away

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin to stay in.. The five of us really enjoyed our time staying. Having a fire place was really lovely, we enjoyed great walks, and the sound of the trains everyday. The kitchen was ok, the knives really need to be replaced or sharpened!

The beds were comfortable with extra linens!

Thanks for a wonderful Christmas Holiday!!

Owner's Response: HI everyone, I agree, but I don't know why knives get dull so easily at the cabin. Since they do I always sharpen the knife before use myself. There are several sharpening devices in the kitchen utensils drawer.
