Beautiful Log Cabin Mountain Top Retreat, Among the Trees

Bedrooms 4
Space 2,500 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This beautifully decorated log cabin is located on a rural mountaintop and surrounded by forests, laurel thickets, and many varieties of wildlife. Enjoy many outdoors activities such as hiking the Appalachian Trail, exploring the wild horse colonies of Grayson Highlands State Park (called the 'sweetest miles of the AT [Appalachian Trail]' by Backpacker Magazine, August 2007), or taking a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are stocked trout streams and many historical places in the surrounding areas to explore.

The kitchen is well equipped and all linens are provided. Relax on the big wrap around porches as dusk falls or as the sun rises over the crest and enjoy nature at its finest as the turkeys fly over the ridge, or the deer emerge from their resting places in the laurels. Don't forget your camera!

About Dianne Johnston

My sister and I live in two distant cities in North Carolina. We have always been great friends growing up, but owning this house together has made us even closer.

We hope this house will bring your and your family closer together too.

Why Dianne Johnston chose Troutdale

My sister and I inherited this house from my mom and dad not long after they built it.

We have some great family memories of this log cabin retreat, and hope you will soon too!

What makes this house unique

It is wonderful to get away from it all. If you are tired of the hustle and bustle of urban life, this is the place to come to rest and restore your soul. Our guests often tell us it is one of the most refreshing vacations they have ever had. We know it will be the same for you.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your wonderful cabin! We have had a wonderful time visiting Damascus and doing the Virginia Creeper Trail as well as seeing the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands! It was nice to come “home” in the evening and unwind, watch TV, play games, and spend quality family time. We also appreciated the responsiveness by you and the property managers with the heat issue the first night. Thank you again for allowing us to stay in your home! We had a great time!

Beautiful Log Cabin Mountain Top Retreat, Among the Trees
average rating of 4.821429 based on 44 reviews

Beautiful, secluded location close to several state parks

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was very spacious and well equipped with 2 well-stocked kitchens and multiple levels. The property owner is very responsive and the location is easily found. We took off one point for musty smelling lower level, no blinds in the upstairs bedroom, and very dirty porch furniture (no covers).

Perfect set up!

  • 5 of 5

We had 3 families, 4 energetic boys and plenty of room to hang out playing games, cards and drinking coffee out on the deck in the am, libations in the evening. Great access to local amenities at Grayson Highlands and Virginia Creeper Trail. Such a nice, clean rustic cabin tucked away up on the ridge!

This cabin was simply beautiful! In the woods - included everything you would ever need for a visit. Very close to the Appalachian Trail, horseback riding and pure beauty of the Grayson Highlands. Would love to return!

We had a great weekend at this spacious cabin! Plenty of room for our group of 11. Having two kitchens was a bonus as well! I especially loved the porch swing :-)

Very nice cabin close to Grayson Highlands and Mt Rogers

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a wonderful stay at this cabin. It was easy to find (GPS took us right there). The driveway was not a problem at all. There was plenty of room, extra linens if needed. The kitchen had everything we needed. We day hiked in Grayson Highlands, Mount Rogers, Appalachian Trail and Whitetop Mountain. Easy driving to the trailheads. We went into Marion one evening and ate at the Wooden Pickle which was great. I would highly recommend this cabin.
