|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
Situated in the very heart of the oldest, historic part of the east side of Whitby, The Corner House is a Grade 2 listed cottage and is one of the oldest properties in Whitby, with a lease first being signed in 1639!
We're, literally, a stones-throw away from the Captain Cook Museum and feel that we're in the perfect location for travellers of all ages, as there's no hills, steps or cobbles to negotiate with walking sticks or pushchairs to get to us, very rare in Whitby! However, since we are in the heart of Whitby, everything is still within very easy reach of us, with shopping and eating and drinking establishments being very close at hand, as well as the beach being a 5 minute stroll away!
Travelling with young children? We've got you covered with all the essentials! A 'Retract-a-Gate' baby gate, a Mama's & Papa's Travel Cot with additional mattress, a Mama's & Papa's high chair, potty and a toddler's training toilet seat - to save you having to try to cram them all into the car! We don't supply the bedding for the travel cot though but we know that you prefer to bring your own anyway.
In the kitchen and open plan living room you'll find that we've gone to town with York stone flooring, granite worktops, separate drinks cooler (so you don't have to choose between the wine and the milk!), free wi-fi and loads of books, games and DVD's. We'd like to think that nothing has been left out, to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible - including a free bottle of wine*!
Upstairs, the shower room has a fabulous, large shower enclosure (big enough for two - if that's what takes your fancy!), with a rainforest shower rose and flexible shower head, along with W.C and vintage wash basin.
Bedroom 1 (The Green Room)
This has the most comfortable king sized metal bed that I've slept in for ages and a gorgeous super king sized, super snuggly, Christy duvet. We've even put a wall mounted television with Freeview and DVD player in there, in case you decide to stay in bed all day! This room also has plenty of storage and great, dual aspect windows with fabulous views of the upper harbour.
Bedroom 2 (The Blue Room)
This is another good sized bedroom with two single metal beds with lovely, super cosy, double sized Christy duvets. Again, we've put a wall mounted television with Freeview and DVD player in there, for when you want to keep the kids quiet! This room also has plenty of storage and the same fabulous views of the upper harbour.
Whilst the cottage does not have its own dedicated parking space, there is a very handy, free 40 minute, limited waiting bay just outside, which is ideal for unloading your bags and there's a Council run, long stay car park approximately 50 metres away, which provides you with the option of using a 'cashless' parking system (which lets you pay via a mobile app and even reminds you when your ticket is about to expire!) - very handy! Otherwise, further up the street there is free, on street parking.
We don't ordinarily offer two night stays, however, if you spot any gaps, that you'd like to book, please don't hesitate to request a quote!

My husband and I purchased this cottage last year and it's been a labour of love dragging it back from the brink, as it had been woefully neglected for years.
I now work looking after the business full time, which is great but I'm a little bit too far away to greet guests personally, most of the time, which is disappointing but every guest knows that I'm only a call, text or email away!
Nichola G purchased this cottage in 2014
I've always loved Whitby and have probably been coming here since before I was born, so it was the natural choice when we inherited a little bit of money, as we wanted to run our own business, have a holiday bolt-hole of our own and have a lasting legacy to the loved ones that we'd lost.
This cottage, with its striking, stuart era overhanging upper floor, was the last on a fairly long list of properties which we'd seen that very cold, October day but as soon as we walked through the door we both instantly felt like it talked to us and asked us to save it (which I know sounds ridiculous!) as it was in a pretty poor state. We knew we had to have it, even though it was bigger, more expensive, and needed more spending on it than we wanted (or could really afford).
We finally got the keys and our builder immediately started work stripping everything out. Only two items were worth salvaging, so everything else is completely brand new - including the Tudor style stone fireplace and York stone flooring, which we laid throughout the ground floor, as it's so practical and hard-wearing.
We have tried to fill the house with warmth and love and hope that you feel it too when you come to visit.
This cottage is quite rare in that, even though it is in the heart of the oldest, most historic part of the east side of Whitby, there are no hills, steep steps or cobbles to contend with in order to access the property and only a small, fairly shallow flight of stairs leading to the first floor, rather than the narrow, steep ones that you regularly find in other properties; which we feel makes our cottage the perfect base for every member of the family.
The cottage also has the most spectacular, far-reaching views of the upper harbour; the steam train can also be seen chugging its way out of the Railway Station during the summer months.
Even though the cottage is incredibly central though, it's also quiet, thanks to the thick walls and secondary glazing.
We're also incredibly chuffed to say that after all of our hard work, we were successful in obtaining a four star Visit England rating earlier in the year and have had the privilege of having the Tour de Yorkshire pass directly past the cottage in May this year - so, hopefully, we were seen by thousands, if not millions of people!
We had fab time at the Cornner House.Great location, clean and all you could need/look for in holiday let.Responce from owner was very prompt and friendly.Unfortunately we had really bad weather during most of our stay,so if we could suggest something to make the evenings in the lovely cottage even better it would be few nice blankets/throws.We will be back at some point, but bit disappointed to learn that HomeAway started to charge booking fee from May.Thank you Nichola,I had lovely Birthday and the bottle of Proseco /card was really appreciated!
An excellent property in a very central, but quiet, location. The very helpful owners have tried to think of all your possible requirements and catered exceptionally well for them. The lovely modern kitchen is well equipped. Very comfortable throughout and immaculately clean.
A selection of books. DVDs and children's games are provided together with lots of information about the surrounding area. It is well heated ( we were there in Feb. )
Providing road directions from our home to the property was an unexpected surprise and the location of car parks very helpful. Although all contact with the owners was by email, text or telephone ,we really felt as though we had made a friend. We wouldn't hesitate to make a repeat booking. Very, very satisfied.
The Corner House is a quaint, well equipped property that has been tastefully decorated to make any stay perfect. The views of the harbour from the bedrooms made waking up each morning a joy and the central location made it easy to nip back with the children after a wet stroll along the beach! Nichola the owner was always prompt with her response to my questions prior to and during our stay. Thank you for an amazing time. We will be back!
The cottage was all I wished it to be. Light & airy and beautifully appointed. It was situated right in the heart of Whitby with immediate access to shops & restaurants. It fulfilled all the brochure said, the owner couldn't have been kinder & more helpful with answering my e-mails regarding eating places and local buses etc. I was devastated at having to end my holiday after just 2 days as I had hurt my leg and could not walk at all. I would recommend the cottage to my friends a neighbours and I would like to have another holiday there in the future, if at all possible.
So glad that we found this gem of a cottage. Being situated in the heart of Whitby made it so convenient for my elderly mother to enjoy short walks around the town centre. Also very handy for restaurants and pubs.
The cottage itself was home from home, clean, comfortable and very cosy. The open plan aspect downstairs worked so well (especially loved the wine fridge!). The bedrooms were spacious and beds extremely comfortable. And as for that shower.... Hated the holiday ending as it meant we had to leave this beautiful place.
Despite there being limited parking outside, it was not an inconvenience as there was free parking 5 minutes walk down the road.
We'd recommend this cottage to everyone, young and old. It's just perfect. Thank you Nichola, your organisation and communication made our break hassle-free. Loved every minute and hopefully will return some day.
Come and visit our Whitby, which is nestled along the banks of the natural harbour at the mouth of the River Esk, Yorkshire's only Salmon river, and see how flawless Whitby jet, made famous by Queen Victoria, is turned into arguably some of the most beautiful jewellery in the world.
Then wander around its narrow streets, crammed full of independent traders, selling everything from dog treats to dinosaurs!
The Pannett Park Museum and its grisly 'Hand of Glory' is another 'must see'; together with a visit (or two!) to the many local hostelries, where a thriving live music scene can be found.
A short stroll from The Corner House is Whitby Railway Station, where the steam trains of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway will make you feel like you've been transported back in time! Journey through fabulous scenery to visit Goathland, or continue on to Pickering, before returning back to sample some of the finest and freshest food Whitby has to offer.
Seafood, international cuisine, pie & mash or good, old fashioned, fish & chips can all be found within a short stroll of The Corner House and if you've still got room after that, why not treat yourself to ice-cream or a coffee and cake in any number of excellent, independently run, cafes.
Then, if you've got the energy, have a wander up the 199 steps, where you'll find the iconic Abbey and St Mary's Church, which was the setting and inspiration for the most well known of all vampire stories - Dracula!
If you're lucky enough to visit on one of Whitby's many 'not to be missed' festivals, you could witness the rivalry of the boat races, or the japery of the Morris Dancers during Regatta week; listen to great live music during the Blues or Folk weekends; or be amazed by the downright strangeness of the outfits during the world famous, bi-annual, Goth Weekend, to name but a few!
All in all, Whitby is a town for all seasons and there's always something to see or do - it even has its very own 'micro-climate', so what are you waiting for, come and make our Whitby, your Whitby!
