Traditional holiday accommodation in the heart of the bocage countryside

Our beautiful 18th Century farmhouse set on a quiet country lane, with 8 acres of grounds and beautiful views over the surrounding countryside, is an ideal place for families or couples to relax.

The newly restored property is perfect for those wanting peace and quiet in a rural location. Eight acres of grounds surround the farmhouse and include a pretty garden, covered well, large gravelled terrace, old and newly established orchards and natural meadow on three sides.

With dairy cows in the neighbouring fields and numerous birds of prey nesting in our meadow, you will enjoy the tranquility that only nature can provide.

The cottage comprises a large open plan living and dining area on the ground floor with a modern fully equipped kitchen. There is a wood-burning stove provided which is ideal during the cooler months. The luxurious bathroom with free-standing pedestal bath and walk-in rain cloud shower is at the rear of the cottage, also on the ground floor.

Stairs lead up to the three bedrooms comprising; Two large double rooms and a third room with full-size double bunks. All our bedrooms enjoy wonderful views across the grounds.

The property is suitable for children of all ages (a cot can be provided) and pets are permitted.

The cottage has a free fast Wi-Fi connection throughout and all parking, linen, towels, utilities and firewood is included.

The Jewel in the crown for L'Auberdiere is our location. We are located in stunning tranquil Normandie bocage (hedgerow) countryside, yet only 2 km from the local village of Campeaux (with it's artisan bakery, butcher, Grocers, Hairdresser & locally renowned Bar/Restaurant) and centrally located for easy access to all the major sites of Normandy including; 1hr to Mont St Michel. 45 minutes drive to Bayeux, Caen, The D-Day beaches of Utah & Omaha. 10 minutes drive to the market towns of Vire or St.Lo, both with a large choice of shops and restaurants. The stunning Gorges of Vire are just 2 Kms away, where you can enjoy a picnic in the beautiful valleys and surroundings.

For the adventurous guests, Europes biggest rope swing and bungee jumping is available year round at the Hackett adventure centre located at the Viaduc de la Souleuvre (3km).

Being in the heart of rural Normandy, there are excellent cycle and walking trails around the property, plus a little further out, there are numerous lakes and waterways to explore by kayak. While we are easily accessible by air (Caen Carpiquet 35 mins) and rail (Vire 10 mins), a car is essential as we are in a rural location. There a local attractions to suit every taste and interest.

Pets are most welcome to stay with you at L'Auberdiere.

A standard cleaning fee of £25 is charged for each booking.

About Thomas & Joanna

We are an Australian family with a passion for travel and the history of the D-Day landings. With a desire to be the guardians of a piece of such a historically diverse and culturally rich part of the world, as Normandy truly is, we found L'Auberdiere in late 2010. To say it was love at first site is an understatement. We knew immediately that L'Auberdiere is the home for us and we instantly had that feeling that only truly old buildings give, that if we were prepared to put in the love and hard yards to bring it back to life, it would reward is infinitely for doing so! Thus the love affair between has blossomed and in 2014 we completed a restoration of the house. Although we live in Australia, we endeavour to attend the D-Day commemorations in Normandy each year and have done for many years. As the guardians of a WW2 Willys Jeep we further ensure that it makes the trip from Australia with us every 5 years for the big D-Day celebrations, the most recent being the 70th Anniversary in 2014. First and foremost L'Auberdiere is a comfortable and homely family farmhouse. We have the most wonderful neighbours who run a dairy farm across the laneway and we want all our guests to enjoy the peace and tranquility that comes from each and every stay.

As mentioned previously, it was love at first site with l'Auberdiere and we pinch ourselves each and every time we stay there, that we are so lucky to be the guardians of such an incredibly beautiful and tranquil part of such a diverse region as Normandy. The location of L'Auberdiere is ideal for all that Normandy has to offer. With Caen Carpiquet airport 35 minutes away, Vire main line station to Paris only 10 to 15 minutes away and motorway access to explore Normandy only 5 minutes away, L'Auberdiere really is in the heart of rural bocage country, yet ideally located for exploring the region.
