|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
Located on the Southern Crete coast, an untouched area with picturesque scenery, where you will find a small selection of tavernas scattered along the coastline flanked by magnificent sandy beaches. The traditional villages of the area, the long history of the local venetian castle, the serenity and the tranquil atmosphere is the idyllic setting of Mary beach villa Ena.
Mary beach villa Ena is a modern, brand new, beachfront, 3 bedroom villa with private infinity pool, overlooking the unique Libyan sea, literally a few steps away from the sandy isolated beach of Laki. It is very close to 3 taverns, while homemade cooking based on traditional recipes and local fresh products, can be prepared, on demand, by the hospitable owners.
The villa with high modern and luxury standards is all in one level (110 square meters). It consists of a big bright and airy lounge with a comfortable sofa (which can open as an additional bed if required), with TV set, dvd player and WiFi coverage. Next is the modern open plan kitchen with ceramic top, oven, fridge and freezer, dishwasher and all useful utensils.
Three nicely decorated bedrooms, one of them with an en-suite shower/wc and a family bathroom with shower/wc and 2 sinks, completes the comfortable layout of the villa. The master bedroom has a big double bed with views to the sea and direct access to the pool and the veranda. The second has 2 single beds and the third a double bed. All bedrooms have air-condition units.
The sitting room leads onto the pool with a sliding door. The private infinity pool is 27 square meters in size. A covered terrace which is next to the pool is the ideal place to enjoy your lunch or dinner with extensive sea views!
This villa is the perfect choice for a quiet beach focused family holiday or for Honeymooners who wish to enjoy a very romantic and peaceful setting. The privacy and exclusiveness of the setting and it's surroundings is priceless.
For bigger groups, families or parties, the sister villas Mary Beach Dio and Mary Beach Tria are available on the same grounds.
The village of Fragokastello is just 5 km away where more amenities can be found including supermarkets, restaurants, ATM, etc and the traditional small village of Skaloti some 2 km away where a mini market can be found.
The Fragokastello castle itself is a living history and a window to a vivid and revolutionary past! The remains of the castle is not very different from the way it looked when it was first built in 1371. Above the main entrance there is a sculptured slate with the Lion of Saint Mark and two Venetian feudal coat of arms.
The view to the impressive White Mountains is breathtaking and inviting for daily excursions. The European Hiking Footpath (E4) passes through Fragokastello. It passes through the beautiful gorge of Imbros and crosses the gorge of Kalikratis, which both are easy to visit and hike.
The seawater of the area is crystal clear, shallow and warm and it is a marvellous combination with the sand dunes that are formed and an opportunity for many hours of play and leisure.
According to the local legend, every year, on the anniversary of the battle of Fragokastello (4-6 June), at dawn, you can see a long procession of visions. Figures with their weapons, walkers and riders, marching from the church of Saint Charalambos towards the fort. The phenomenon is observed when the sea is calm and there is moisture in the atmosphere and it lasts about 10 minutes. The figures reach the sea and disappear into it, with the first rays of the sun. They are called Drosoulites.

Mary beach villa is beachfront, ideal for relaxation, peace and serenity. The isolated picturesque small beaches with crystal clear water in combination with the breathtaking view to the magnificent mountains, is simply unbeatable. Many small traditional taverns are next door while homemade food can be delivered daily at the villa.
New, luxury, full amenities, beachfront, high standards, located near the village of Frangokastello, next to taverns, quiet location, peace and calm.
I don't normally write reviews, I will put comments in a guest book but online reviews are not really my thing. On this occasion I will make an exception for the reasons below:
If you are looking for a very peaceful location with spectacular views, then this is the place to go to. It really is a fantastic spot. We couldn't have wished for anything nicer. The contact and support from the main booking office was also excellent.
Our "welcome" on arrival was very unfriendly. The caretaker was rude to my wife when she asked for an extra towel, we had 5 large towels and there were six of us, surely this was not an unreasonable request! The caretaker was also very grumpy when I asked for more coffee cups (there were only three!). There was no maid service at all. The wifi was very poor and mostly unusable. The BBQ is communal and located a distance away from the villa so we didn't use it as it would have felt that we were eating in someone else's garden. We only had two sunbeds and no umbrella, I asked for more and got a couple of extra beds from the ever grumpy caretaker but no umbrella. The shower in the main bedroom was poorly designed so that it flooded the bedroom floor. We ended up all using the one in the main bathroom. There isn't an ATM in Frangokastello.
The "caretaker" strolled up to our patio on the last evening, smoking a fag and told us that we had to be out by 10am the next day "as more tourists are coming". Charming man!
In summary, the on site service was very disappointing and the BBQ and bathroom facilities were poor which would put us off going back or recommending to our friends and family.
A LOVELY VILLA, IN A VERY PEACEFUL AREA. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF TAVERNAS NEARBY, BOTH VERY WELCOMING, AND BOTH SERVING TASTY LOCAL DISHES. FRANGOCASTELLO IS ONLY 5 MINUTES DRIVE, WHERE THERE ARE WELL STOCKED MINI-MARKETS, AND SOME MORE NICE TAVERNAS. THE VILLA IS TRULY LOVELY WITH A SUPERB VIEW OF THE SEA !!! SUPERB !!!
Beautiful Villa, very modern and clean. Comfortable beds.
Pool a bit chilly in October, I though it was going to be heated but it isn't. It was well looked after by onsite man.
Sea temperature still warm enough to swim
Amazing spot with beach made up of three bays only used by the three villas. Gorgeous clear water and lovely clean sandy pebble mix beach.
Taverna on the beach was nice, also Zorba's is another eating option which is walking distance away with gorgeous food.
We really enjoyed our time at the villa, yes there were a few things we would have changed about the interior but overall the view made up for these minor faults.
For example, the shower in the main bedroom was not practical as water flowed out of the shower quite quickly which could be easily rectified with very little work. Instead we had to use a towel to stem the flow into the bedroom! It also seemed a little unwelcoming that there was absolutely no cleaning products provided, not even a sponge and washing up liquid to rinse off plates. We therefore had to buy everything from the local supermarket, again not a major problem but just felt a little unwelcoming. We left them all for the next guests so hopefully they will get them.
Having said all of that, the amazing setting, fabulous views and wonderful tavernas nearby make this villa a great place to holiday and we would love to return. A little note for future guests, please check out reviews of tavernas on tripadvisor before visiting as there is one in the village of Frangocastello which is best avoided.
Overall excellent location, sandy beach, nice pool for kids, modern functional villa. Welcome was a disappointment as there was no toilet paper, no dishwashing liquid, pills, cloth, sponge, washing machine detergent, instant coffee, and salt. We bought it all and left plenty for the next guest. Hopefully these will not be removed before the next guest arrives....
Zorba family taverna is short walking distance, which is a real treat given the isolated location. It is very pleasart but make sure to say what is appetizer and what is main dish else you will wait forever till all the dishes are prepared and served at once.
We stayed at Mary front villa for 2 weeks. Location was great for us, because we needed very peaceful vacations. The only sound you can hear is the sound of the see and distant sheep bells. It was great. The beach is wonderful, practically used only by villa's rentals. We visited some great fish restaurants in Frangokastello, Chora Sfakion and Plakia (following suggestions at Tripadvisor).
We expected on the basis of our experiences a bit better service, the property is new, but the cleaning is not sufficient so in the bathrooms are already traces of limescale...
On the south coast of Crete, on a magnificent white sandy beach, stands one of the most beautiful Venetian fortresses of the island, Frangokastello.
It is located approximately 170 km from Heraklion, 70 km from Rethymnon, 80 km from Chania, 12 km from Chora Sfakion en route to Plakias.
Frangokastello was named after the castle that the Venetians built right on the beach in 1371, in order to protect themselves from pirates and from the constant revolts of the locals. The Venetians called it Castle Franco.
Today, Frangokastello is a small, but developing, community, with nice beaches covered in sand dunes, and limited, but increasing, tourist facilities.
Frangokastello, together with the neighboring villages of Kapsodasos, Kalikratis and Patsianos, belong to the municipality of Sfakia.
