'Wow!' is the first word that springs to mind when you step inside this amazing cottage. The beautiful interior has been renovated to the highest speculation and is full of style and character.

The cottage is a superb, Listed example of Georgian architecture. It has been lovingly restored to successfully marry the charm and character of a traditional stone house with the best progressive eco-build practices.

The entire interior has been newly renovated and modernised to incorporate a very large open-plan contemporary living space with solid oak floors and underfloor heating throughout. The ceilings are incredibly high and the unique central sandstone chimney is a striking feature which facilitates the definition of the three living areas in the heart of the cottage.

A stylish, fully equipped kitchen complete with all mod-cons and a Caithness stone worktop leads to the bright, wooden panelled dining area. The large oak table seats 8 comfortably, and offers fantastic South views out into the garden and beyond.

A wonderful atmospheric and cosy Lounge is created around the wood-burner, where comfortable leather sofas are perfect for stretching out on in front of the fire.

Beautiful Georgian windows have shutters and window seats and are the perfect place to enjoy a book or get the binoculars out and study visiting wildlife.

There are two spacious, bright, South-facing Bedrooms:

The Double (en suite) Room is beautifully decorated with an extremely comfortable kingsize bed, made up with crisp Egyptian cotton linen.

Both Bedrooms have more than ample hanging and shelf space and come with hair-dryers.

The En Suite is very light and high-ceilinged with a large Shower and window.

The Twin Room is also high-ceilinged and extremely bright, with windows to both the South and West. There are two twin beds which can be made into a double if necessary.

The Family Bathroom is large and spacious with a generous doubled ended bath, separate walk in shower and is stocked with organic shampoo and soap. The lighting is high-tech; enjoy a romantic candle-lit bath bathed in stunning blue light!

Adjacent to the back door is a separate Outhouse/Utility Room, which is the perfect Washing and Drying Room. There is a large stainless steel sink, washing machine, an overhead pulley and underfloor heating. Spacious, airy and warm, it is the ideal place for pets to sleep when they are not in the garden. Please note that, due to our allergy free status, pets are not allowed in the house at any time.

For your Entertainment there is a 57' Smart/HD flat screen TV with a sub-woofer sound system and DVD player. There is a good selection of maps as well as interesting books on Scottish wildlife, history and culture.

Guests at the Woodland Retreat can also enjoy playing tennis on an astro grass tennis court. The court is a short distance from the cottage and has the same stunning views across the Strathearn Valley.

Visitors can enjoy many wonderful walks through private woodlands and along the River Earn, where they can see fish jumping, deer, pheasant, partridge and red squirrels crossing woodland trails and birds of prey soaring overhead.

The Woodland Retreat is also centrally positioned to visit top tourist attractions; The City of Perth, Glenturret whisky distillery, Drummond Castle Gardens and Crieff are only 15mins from the cottage. Scone Palace, Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument are all easily accessible in under 30mins as is Loch Tay and the Scottish Highlands.

Edinburgh and Glasgow are both reached within an hour, making the Woodland Retreat the ideal base for a holiday in Scotland.

About Lisa Roberts

Lisa Roberts owns and manages the Woodland Retreat. Lisa lives on the Estate with her four children and husband, Jamie, who farms the surrounding agricultural land and manages the Fishing and Woodlands. The Woodland Retreat is their second holiday property on the Estate, both properties are 5 star, award-winning and top-rated in the area. They run a number of other successful long term let properties and wanted to give visitors from both the UK and overseas the opportunity to sample Scotland's wonderful rural life - somewhere they could come to relax, unwind and enjoy their beautiful surroundings. Lisa used to run a tourism business out of the five star Gleneagles Hotel so is very familiar with the local area; the Retreats have a wealth of information for visitors to help plan their excursions as well as recommendations for dining in the area. Both Jamie and Lisa are sociable and well travelled and enjoy meeting the many visitors who come from all over the world to visit this special Retreat in a beautiful area of Perthshire.

Lisa Roberts purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Lisa Roberts chose Perthshire

The Woodland Retreat is the quintessential 'Hansel and Gretel' cottage in the most perfect location for a holiday in Scotland - a very romantic, private haven of peace and tranquillity with stunning views and yet only 10 mins from local shops/restaurants and amenities as well as the Gleneagles Resort Hotel.

Golf is always nearby, from the world-famous Gleneagles courses (10 mins) to the local courses in Auchterarder and Crieff.

The Scenic Highlands are on the doorstep and the cultural centres of Edinburgh and Glasgow are within an hour.

What makes this cottage unique

The Woodland Retreat is a fine example of listed Georgian architecture, guests have the unique opportunity to holiday in a beautiful historic house (with a 'wow' interior!) . The location is equally superb: without stepping in a car, visitors can enjoy many walks through the woodlands and along the River Earn, where they can see fish jumping, deer, pheasant, partridge and red squirrels crossing woodland trails and birds of prey soaring overhead.

Beautiful walks, a tennis court and free fishing on the River Earn are all on the doorstep.

The Retreat is also incredibly romantic. Couples come back time and time again to enjoy quality time together, having the UK's best restaurant 10 mins away is also a bonus!

Lovely retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at the Woodland Retreat. My sister and I were born in the Auchterarder area and love coming back to visit. The Woodland Retreat is the best property that we have found in the area. It is an immaculate 5 star property in a very private location with lovely big beech trees and great views. The house is beautiful inside and Lisa, the owner, has though of everything that you could wish for down to fluffy bathrobes and slippers! The garden is large and sheltered and is a brilliant place to see the sun setting and spot all sorts of different birds whilst having a morning coffee (from the fab nespresso machine) or a glass of wine in the evening.. total relaxation!

We went on great walks through the woodlands to the Roman Signal stations and also enjoyed our walk along the banks of the river Earn where we saw swans, lots of different types of duck and geese. There is a great tennis court close by (racquets and balls are supplied) and it has an amazing view over Strathearn. Three grazing horses and fancy chickens in the surrounding paddock added to the rural idyll! There is a great local farm shop and a good choice of restaurants so The Woodland is definitely a 10 out of 10 for us. We always have the best time and are already booked in for next year.

Totally Amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

We booked a last minute weekend break, we were looking for somewhere peaceful to recharge our batteries with nice walks or just to chill out and we certainly found a "gem". We received an amazing welcome from Lisa and Jamie and their cottage is stunning. The fire was lit for us arriving and they also provide essentials to help get you started which is a lovely touch. Everything you need is here and at a very high standard. I can't speak highly enough of a great location and facilities - a proper home from home! We weren't very lucky with the Scottish weather but it certainly gave us an excuse to snuggle up next to the fire and watch a few great movies that were supplied. The hot tub took a little practice of how long to heat up, but sitting in it was worth it. Thank you so much for a great stay - we will be back

Just perfect

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Woodland Retreat for a week in Apr/May. As soon as we arrived I felt relaxed. It was beautiful inside and out, spotlessly clean and so peaceful. Lisa and Jamie gave us a lovely welcome and were only a text away if we needed anything. Our toddler daughter loved the house and the open plan feel was perfect to keep an eye on her as she explored. There was even a little cupboard full of toys for her.

We spent a lot of time in the garden and the wood fired hottub is fantastic. We were v lucky with the weather and enjoyed some lovely walks nearby. We saw hares , so many birds ( Lisa kindly left us some bird food so we could fill the feeder with our little girl) and deer while we were at the cottage...and there are sheep at the bottom of the garden. Cannot recommend enough. We have already booked to return in September and hope to book for next year too. Truly 5 star.

Fantastic, relaxing break in superb cottage. Finished to the highest standards and equipped with all mod cons this property is set in an ideal location for enjoying beautiful Scottish countryside and exploring Perthshire. Perfect for a romantic break or a family holiday; the hot tub is incredible and it's amazing to watch the wildlife whilst sipping a glass of fizz. Amazing place which we will return to.

Fantastic luxury getaway in the country.

  • 5 of 5

Immaculately presented open plan layout, spacious grounds with local woodland walks, spa style feel with wood fired hot tub. We spent a relaxing long weekend here and it couldn't have been more idyllic. The house itself is very well equipped for you to do your own cooking with some excellent local shops nearby (or some local restaurants nearby if you don't fancy staying in); there's plenty of firewood for both wood burning stove and hot tub; extra bird food for the feeders; shampoo/soaps in every shower/bathroom; wifi and the ability to connect your bluetooth device to the sound system for some music. The place is very clean and feels warm without ever feeling stuffy and you can adjust the lighting to suit whatever mood! The owners are also very helpful and friendly. We will definitely return, hopefully sooner than later. Phil & Maria
