The cottage is a superb, listed example of Georgian architecture. It has been lovingly restored to successfully marry the charm and character of a traditional stone house with the best progressive eco-build practices. Relax and enjoy the benefits of sleeping in a breathable, allergy free house with solid oak wooden floors and underfloor heating.
'Wow!' is the first word that springs to mind when you step inside this amazing cottage. The beautiful interior has been renovated to the highest speculation and is full of style and character.
The entire interior has been newly renovated and modernised to incorporate a very large open-plan contemporary living space. The ceilings are incredibly high and the unique central sandstone chimney is a striking structure which facilitates the definition of the three living areas in the heart of the cottage. A stylish, fully equipped kitchen complete with all mod-cons and a Caithness stone worktop leads to the bright, wooden panelled dining area. The large oak table seats 8 comfortably, and offers fantastic South views out into the garden and beyond.
A wonderful atmospheric and cosy lounge is created around the wood-burner, where comfortable leather sofas are perfect for stretching out on in front of the fire. Beautiful Georgian windows have shutters and window seats and are the perfect place to enjoy a book or get the binoculars out and study visiting wildlife.
There are two spacious, bright, South-facing bedrooms: The Double (en suite) Room is beautifully decorated with an extremely comfortable kingsize bed, made up with crisp Egyptian cotton linen. Both bedrooms have more than ample hanging and shelf space and come with hair-dryers. The en suite is bright and high-ceilinged with a large Shower and window to the rear. The Twin Room is also high-ceilinged and extremely bright, with windows to both the South and West. There are two twin beds which can be made into a double if necessary.
The Family Bathroom is large and spacious with a generous doubled ended bath, separate walk in shower and is stocked with organic shampoo and soap. The lighting is high-tech; enjoy a romantic candle-lit bath bathed in stunning blue light!
Adjacent to the back door is a separate Outhouse/Utility Room, which is the perfect Washing and Drying Room. There is a large stainless steel sink, washing machine, plenty of cupboard and hanging space, an overhead pulley and underfloor heating. Spacious, airy and warm, it is the ideal place for pets to sleep when they are not in the garden. Please note that, due to our allergy free status, pets are not allowed in the house at any time.
For your Entertainment there is a 57' Smart/HD flat screen TV with a sub-woofer sound system and DVD player. There is a good selection of maps as well as interesting books on Scottish wildlife, history and culture.
Enjoy the picturesque location, wonderful views and sunsets from the sheltered decking area. The perfect place for a BBQ and to take a relaxing soak in the traditional, Swedish-style Hot Tub, as the sun dips down over Ben Vorlich and the Crieff hills in the West.
Guests at the Woodland Retreat can also enjoy playing tennis on a new astro/artificial grass tennis court. The court is a short distance from the cottage and has the same stunning views across the Strathearn Valley. See photo gallery for a photograph of the beautiful court.
Guests are also granted free access to three beats on the River Earn (a short distance from the cottage door).

Lisa Roberts owns and manages the Woodland Retreat. Lisa lives on the Estate with her four children and husband, Jamie, who farms the surrounding agricultural land and manages the Fishing and Woodlands. The Woodland Retreat is their second holiday property on the Estate, both properties are 5 star, award-winning and top-rated in the area. They run a number of other successful long term let properties and wanted to give visitors from both the UK and overseas the opportunity to sample Scotland's wonderful rural life - somewhere they could come to relax, unwind and enjoy their beautiful surroundings. Lisa used to run a tourism business out of the five star Gleneagles Hotel so is very familiar with the local area; the Retreats have a wealth of information for visitors to help plan their excursions as well as recommendations for dining in the area. Both Jamie and Lisa are sociable and well travelled and enjoy meeting the many visitors who come from all over the world to visit this special Retreat in a beautiful area of Perthshire.
Lisa Roberts purchased this cottage in 2014

The Woodland Retreat is a fine example of listed Georgian architecture, guests have the unique opportunity to holiday in a beautiful historic house (with a 'wow' interior!) . The location is equally superb: without stepping in a car, visitors can enjoy many walks through the woodlands and along the River Earn, where they can see fish jumping, deer, pheasant, partridge and red squirrels crossing woodland trails and birds of prey soaring overhead.
Beautiful walks, a tennis court and free fishing on the River Earn are all on the doorstep.
The Retreat is also incredibly romantic. Couples come back time and time again to enjoy quality time together, having the UK's best restaurant 10 mins away is also a bonus!
Beautiful grounds and property.
Well equipped and owners were so lovely.
Welcome pack was lovely.
Hot tub amazing, our son didn't want to get out.
3d TV a little odd on the eye and not so keen on the scents/ burners. Missing a masher but otherwise couldn't fault it.
We were there for xmas and were chuffed with the decor and real tree. Really hope to go back.
Stayed here for 3 nights in December and it was amazing! As soon as we arrived, there was a basket of wine, chocolates and essentials, the Christmas lights were on and the hot tub was heating up - ready for us to use. It is in a great area and so peaceful to be away from all the noise. The house is spotless, warm and cosy - even when we arrived in the cold December weather. Lisa and the staff are very helpful and just a phone call away for help. Will definitely be back!
Myself and three friends stayed here in September 2016 for a long overdue reunion. The property turned out to be so good we hardly left it which enabled us to have a great catch up with each other.
From the outset the engagement from the vendors, greeting and welcome pack on arrival was all seamless and top class.
The property sits on its own grounds in a beautiful location with walks and activities nearby. The standard of the property, its finish and facilities have been well thought out and completed to the highest standard - and we really appreciated the luxury. There really was nothing we wanted for or fell short of during our stay.
We had a car which we would recommend, but only a short drive or taxi ride away are a number of activities, shops and restaurant options.
All of us loved our stay and wished it had been longer. All hoping to revisit again.
My family and I (2 adults, 2 children aged 10 and 6) have just spent the most wonderful Christmas at the Woodland Retreat. We have stayed in rental properties all over the world and can easily say that this was the best - hands down! Every little detail had been thought about from the wonderful toiletries in each bathroom to the welcome gifts of prosecco, biscuits, chocolate and other basics like bread and milk. The cottage was spotlessly clean and all furnishings and crockery were of the highest quality.
The cottage is set in the most idyllic, peaceful location with access to the huge wood behind. The children spent hours exploring the surroundings - we even spotted deer and red squirrels right outside!
Lisa was extremely helpful with all aspects of the booking process and provided excellent instructions and tips closer to the time of arrival. We literally couldn't find fault with anything other than the fact we had to come home!!
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the Woodland Retreat to anyone - it really does deserve its 5-star rating. We can't wait to return!
We had a wonderful week staying here at the Woodland Retreat with out two boys aged 11 years and 13 years. Lisa the owner was superb. On our first evening we arrived very late and after a very long journey it was lovely to be greated with homemade flapjacks, donuts and coffee. We met her the following day and she gave us a wealth of information and was very accommodating without being intrusive. Sadly a week just isn't long enough to do all that is on offer in the surrounding areas, as well as simply enjoying this beautiful property and what it itself has to offer. After a day of mountain biking what could be better than sitting in the outdoor hot tub watching the sunset amongst the woodlands, glass of wine and the BBQ on the go, absolute bliss!!
First of all I have to say thank you to the owners Lisa and Jamie. Nothing is spared in the provision to make the stay here as perfect as possible.
To try and fully describe the cottage would still be doing it a disservice . Seeing is believing and this place has to be seen and experienced to be fully appreciated. We have stayed in many places for weekends etc and the woodland retreat in our opinion has set the bar, extremely high. Hopefully we will book again in the new year.
