The cottage - on an ancient estate - is ideally situated in the verdant hills of Torre, between Lucca (4 miles) and the coast (with the sandy beaches of Versilia, Forte dei Marmi's shops and nightlife, and Pietrasanta's art galleries). It has just been restored with integrity: antique terracotta tiled floors, wooden beamed ceilings and is well furnished in a rustic style. On the ground floor, there is a large entrance lounge, a spacious country-style kitchen with all modern conveniences, a pantry, and bathroom with shower. Terracotta stairs lead up to the first floor with 2 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom, and an elegant bathroom. Private garden with panoramic views of Lucca and the hills (guests here can simply sit back, relax and enjoy the view), garden chairs and table, umbrella, beach chairs, barbecue, pergola of Isabella grapes, ample parking. Fabulous position for walking and cycling.Trips to Pisa, Florence, San Gimignano, Chianti, Siena, Cinque Terre, Portofino. Lucca – the nearest city – really is one of Tuscany's best-kept secret. Within its majestic walls, its Roman and medieval heart is a medley of piazzas, tiny churches, art galleries and cobbled lanes; a place, in the words of Henry James, 'overflowing with everything that makes for ease, for plenty, for beauty, for interest and good example'.

I live in Torre di Sotto with my husband and my kids.
Ilide purchased this Villa in 1992
Why Ilide chose Lucca
The location is unique. It looks like a Renaissance painting and it's just as beautiful.
What makes this Villa unique
The location is perfect, with pretty views overlooking a valley, yet so close to Lucca, to which you get to in about 5 minutes of scenic landscapes. The house is authentic and confortable. It suits a family very well, and would also be a romantic place to stay. The owners are close by if need be, whilst the house being private.

Beautiful location. Property and garden are charming and perfect for a holiday.
Really lovely location in the hills. House has been renovated to a high standard. Lovely place to spend days at home in the garden, having a barbecue and relaxing but also convenient for daytrips to Lucca or the beach. The family were really welcoming and helpful and sorted out the WiFi efficiently. The house doesn’t have an oven - so if you want to do lots of cooking then not ideal. Has dishwasher and all other mod cons though. Overall a great place to stay.
We are really glad you enjoyed your stay so much. It's been a pleasure to have you here and we look forward to welcoming you back soon!
p.s. We don't have a fancy kitchen indeed, but we do have a microwave oven.
Highlight of My 3 Week Trip to Italy
My family spent 4 nights in this lovely, rustic, charming adorable mountain retreat a few miles outside of Lucca that turned out to be the gem of our trip. We thoroughly enjoyed this warm home and our host couldn’t have been more accommodating without being meddlesome. The property is ideal to feel relaxed and immersed in Italian culture, and a scenic, easy drive into Lucca, which itself is amazing and very enjoyable. From Lucca, we completed several day trips. Each evening it felt wonderful to come home to our home away from away. I could’ve stayed there for another week or two and left the crowded cities, cramped hotels, over-priced resturant’s and played out touristy places for this lovely hideaway any day! A little difficult to locate (definitely need GPS on your phone or car) but great place and value! Recommend it whole heartedly.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. I’m delighted that we could make you feel welcome and comfortable. It was a real pleasure having you and I look forward to hosting you again.
Charming and fully equipped cottage with beautiful views
Our family of six adults had the best time staying at Ilide’s charming Tuscany cottage. The kitchen is fully equipped and all her appliances work great! If you are looking for a truely rustic Tuscany stay this place is perfect! Ms. Ilide is a lovely and wonderful host with great recommendations for restaurants in Lucca and nearby towns. She answered all our questions and was always available to help. The linens were superb and hot water plentiful for showers. We loved the garden with wild flowers and greeneries. In the morning it was a joy drinking coffee on the patio watching the sunlight shine on the mountains nearby and beautiful homes scattered amongst the hills and trees. We truly appreciate Ilides hospitality and enjoyed our stay at the cottage immensely
Thank you for posting such a lovely review. We take great pride in providing our guests with a comfortable stay and rating like yours let us know we are on the right track. It was so good to have you here, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Charming renovations and felt like we stayed in property dating back 400 years.
We settled in to a throwback in history home for 3 weeks. The charm of the original beams, floors, and stonework was certainly appreciated. We used the farmhouse as a home base to visit Lucca-just 10 minutes away, the beach area 35 minutes away, Pisa, Cinque Terre, Venice, and a number of small towns within the surrounding area. Ilide was a wonderful host helping us with questions and suggestions of places to visit. We left falling in love with the rental and the area.
A wonderful place to stay
Lovely old property which has been kept authentic in style. Sizeable rooms with all amenities required to enjoy this lovely location. Torre is so peaceful and Lucca is a very special city. The owner of the property is lovely and very kind. We hope to return again.
Thank you so much for your kind review! I am really happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and glad you want to return soon. Greetings from Torre
Wonderful Tuscan experience
We stayed a week in this wonderful property. It consists of an original medieval house, with a 'new' section remodeled 400 years ago. Staying here is as close as you can get to a time once forgotten, by the countryside, where the wine grows, nature abounds and locals become friends. Illide, the property owner, is very nice and attentive. Highly recommended for the romantic couple or family looking for a true Tuscan experience.
It was lovely to have you as our guests and we are glad you had a good time!
Local activities: tennis, walking, swimming, horse riding, golf, cycling, mountain biking, Italian language courses, wine tours. Lucca hosts a huge antiques market on the third weekend of every month, a 'Summer Festival' of international pop music in July, and folklore festivals, including the patron saint's day with a historical parade, in September. In July and August, at Torre del Lago (15 km), there is a Giacomo Puccini opera festival, and in September, in the village of Montecarlo (20 km), a superlative Wine Week. In February, Viareggio (15 km) puts on its famous Carnival, with an amazing parade of massive floats.
