The best place we have visited in the British Isles.

  • 5 of 5

Great cottage for two north of Glasgow, south of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs Forest Park.

The cottage is open plan and very comfortable. The estate is a working sheep farm with 120 acres of green pastures, a large pond and a nice gazebo in the lawn for a quiet after dinner glass of wine.

Killearn is walking distance to cafes, a gastro pub and a grocery store. Glengoyne distillery is about four miles away with excellent tours and very good scotch whisky.

The location is ideal for touring Scotland, from Edinburgh and Stirling to John O'Groats and Loch Ness.

Best part is the hospitality and touring guidance of the owner, Ian Bowie. He is a Scot, proud of it and very knowledgeable of his country's history and geography. The cottage is close enough to his main house for support but detached enough for privacy, an ideal setup.

This was a very pleasant part of our summer in the UK.

Great views, remote but not isolated.

  • 5 of 5

Out of village, 20 mins walk to the pub, another 5 to the CoOp.

Bus service is brilliant for local villages and Glasgow.

Turn left out of the drive for local Riverside paths.

Marvellous view

  • 3 of 5

Nice cottage, splendid view, situation of cottage overwhelming, very relaxing, kitchen equipment good be more comprehensive, steps of guests in the appartment above are audible, internet very slow

Owner's Response: Thanks for your comments. Really disappointed that you only felt it worthy of 3 stars, every other review has given us 5. As far as wifi is concerned, we are rural and don't have access to high speed fibre but we do have a download speed of 10.4 which we feel isn't too bad, more than adequate for browsing and emails but there could be a problem with streaming foreign TV.

Comfortable base for exploring the area

  • 5 of 5

A very comfortable place for two people. Modern, clean and well equipped with everything we needed. Great view and nice evening walks looking for wildlife by the river. Friendly and helpful hosts. Nice heated floor in bathroom. Internet connection was somewhat intermittent but we managed OK.

Overall, this is a great place to stay in a lovely area. Highly recommended.

Idyllic get-away situation

  • 5 of 5

We found the cottage beautifully and artistically furnished and spotless - just as on the web-site, The owners were friendly and helpful and plenty of literature advising about the area was to be found in the drawers. Sitting to eat out on the terrace in the sunshine was a real pleasure - sunshine and no midges. How fortunate was that?!

We enjoyed the 1/2 mile walk down to the river as well as the 1 mile walk to the High St; the Co-op and Spar are well provisioned. The newish "Three Sisters" cafeteria is a surprisingly young and 'buzzy' place to eat.

Owner's Response: Thanks very much for your very kind words, we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. By the way, we are very lucky here that we never see midges at any time of year. We look forward to welcoming you back any time. Kind regards Agnes & Ian
