Podere Vitiana with pool and WIFI is situated in a peaceful and panoramic position on the edge of the Orrido di Botri nature reserve.

The accommodation is situated in the midst of a working farm of 5.5 hectares, some of which is dedicated to the cultivation of vines, olives, fruit trees and vegetables, while the rest comprises luxuriant woodland full of all kinds of animals and numerous species of birds, including many birds of prey. This is a nature lovers’ paradise.

There are two properties for rent on site offered together for the price detailed. Ideal to give a family group a little privacy between each other, with exclusive use of the pool.

The Metato is a building, and old chestnut drying house, dating to 1713 has been lovingly restored into a little two bedroom detached house. Whilst great for a young family the property also has a romantic feel for couples alone…

The property comprises:

Ground floor:

Open plan kitchen diner with fireplace, double sink, oven, hob, microwave and fridge WIFI

Shower room with WC, bidet, sink and shower – wet room style

Stairs lead upstairs directly into charming double bedroom, with three windows and beamed ceilings

Outside there is a private eating terrace/courtyard

The property has a wonderfully rustic, and well loved feel…

The Nido, is a one bedroom apartment situated on the other side of the garden, and is more modern in style despite boasting beamed ceilings in the light, airy and spacious double bedroom which benefits from an en-suite shower room with WC, bidet, sink and shower cubicle

Complete with simple kitchen – oven, hob, grill, and fridge as well as space to eat

WIFI

Outside there is a private eating terrace shielded by a beautiful olive tree

In the gardens there is a pool for cooling off, pool furniture, two individual eating areas, BBQ/picnic zone, ping pong table, and bocce court (boules)

The owners live on site, but fully respect guests privacy, whilst being on hand to assist with anything guests require. They will be able to provide you with their own olive oil and wine to purchase at a very reasonable price, and will also share the produce of their orto (allotment) with you ensuring you are never short of freshly grown salads/tomatoes in season.

The owners are also happy to cook for you on request at a very reasonable price – ideal for those evenings when you cant drag yourself from the garden…Full meals available for between E15 and E25 per head with a daily changing menu offering! We have tried the food and found it delicious!

Or, just take advantage of the aperitivi service - try local aperitivos served with little snacks while relaxing by the pool and before BBQing your own food for the evening.

We can also arrange winetasting on site since the owner is a Sommelier.

Beautiful Tuscan farmhouse - the perfect get away!

  • 5 of 5

Four of us stayed at Podere Vitiana in August 2016. For two of us, after a busy week in southern Tuscany with the extended family, we wanted somewhere a bit more peaceful. It was the first time in Italy for the other couple. We all agreed that it was a perfect holiday.

Podere Vitiana is isolated - the drive off the main road is a little nerve wracking the first time. The mountain road is narrow, but during our stay we never encountered another vehicle. And the drive is worth it once you get to the house! On one evening driving home we saw wild boar, deer, porcupines and foxes!

Giulio and Silvana were the perfect hosts. They made us feel most welcome. They supplied us with fruit and vegetables from their farm, and were always happy to chat and suggest places to visit.

One couple slept in the house and one in the apartment, although the beautiful house was definitely hub of activity - where we ate, enjoyed the local wines, and played games in the evening. The pool was very welcome during the heat of the day, and both the table tennis table and boules court were used during the 'Vitiana Olympics'! During the less active time, we just sat outside the house, enjoying the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, and the olives grove and orchards around.

Vitiana is in a great location. Using it as a base, we visited Lucca, Pisa, the beach at Via Reggio, the opera at Torre de Lago, and the wineries around beautiful Montecarlo. Yes, you have to drive quite a bit, but all these locations were about an hour from the house. On the way back you can stop off at the supermarket to stock up, or take a pitstop in one of the local towns and villages for dinner.

The house and apartment are well equipped - we had everything we needed for cooking meals, using the kitchen and the BBQ. Because of its location in the mountains, there was no need for A/C (we used the fans sometimes) and mosquitoes were non-existent making it very comfortable in the evenings.

There was so much more in the region that we didn't get to do that we're going to have to return in the future. However, the four of us agree that the holiday we had in Podere Vitiana was amazing, and we'd highly recommend it. Thanks again Giulio and Silvana - hopefully we'll be visiting again soon!

A comfortable rustic home set in quiet beautiful green mountains

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely relaxed time in the stunning setting of the nature reserve. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming and could not do enough for you while allowing us to feel private and chilled. They have done a fantastic job renovating the barn which was charming. We enjoyed seeing the area especially Lucca ... try cycling around the walls in the late afternoon so you could see the old city from a different perspective. The road up to the farm is quite an experience and the bends rather sharp but we got used to it and learned that the locals sound their horn often incase you meet on the bends it all adds to the adventure. We enjoyed Silvanas cooking three evenings while we were there. The food and service was very good we would definitely recommend this. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend Coreglia Antelminelli to anyone looking to unwind. Mille Grazie

Beautiful rural retreat with wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5

Our stay with Giulio and Sylvana exceeded our expectations. The main house is of rustic style but very comfortable. There is a fitted fan on the upper level which was really effective for keeping the room cool at night. The apartment is more modern and also very comfortable. The gardens and the pool are beautiful with plenty of seating and the most spectacular view over the hills. As mentioned in other reviews the last 5 minutes of the drive to the villa is across a narrow bridge and up a mountain road and the drive down to the villa is quite long and bumpy. However, knowing that only 10 cars a day use this road makes it much more relaxing (and quite fun) and if you take it slowly on the drive to the villa it is no problem.

Slyvana and Giulio could not have been more welcoming and hospitable during our stay, whilst being totally non-intrusive. We had the welcome meal on the first evening and the food was fresh and very tasty. We dined enjoying the wonderful view and decided that this was better than most restaurants so used this service another 4 times throughout the week. Giulio and Sylvana provided different menus each evening (all were very delicious) and have a selection of delicious wines to choose from.

My husband and I left a couple of days before my parents-in-law, with the car. The quote for a taxi to Pisa was 120E so Giulio kindly offered to take my parents-in-law for 50E. On top of this, he took them to the airport on the way and checked their baggage in for them so that they could spend the day in Pisa without having to lug their bags around.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this accommodation to friends and family and would certainly stay here again if in the area in the future.

A tranquil getaway with beautiful surroundings

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time here. It is so peaceful. The drive to the cottage is a bit scary the first time, but no problem thereafter (although I wouldn't hire a small engine car).

Guilio and Silvana are lovely hosts and it was nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy their lovely cooking in the evening, rather than doing it ourselves! The welcome meal was particularly, well, welcome, as we didn't arrive until 9pm! Our little girl took a shine to them both and loved her goodbye present (very talented Guilio!).

The property itself is very basic, don't expect lots of home comforts but all the essentials are there. We particularly enjoyed a game of boules in the evening. And our little girl loved the pool.

We visited Lucca, Lido di Camiaore, Pinocchio Park in Collodi and the Verrucole Fortress. Nothing was more than an hour's drive away and I can recommend them all. We also visited nearby Barga a couple of times and can recommend Café Capretz - lovely food and friendly staff.

We also walked up to Vitiana village from the cottage - worth a visit, especially when the local bar is open!

All in all, we had a really lovely time. If you want a real taste of Italy and a chance to 'unplug', this is the place for you.

Tuscan hospitality and tranquility with pool

  • 5 of 5

Lovely quiet place in the mountains above Lucca and 1,5h away from Florence. We had the old (18th century), nicely renovated house (2 bedrooms and kitchen) and an appartment (1 double) in the main house, where the owners live. The hospitality of the owners was amazing. They even prepared a barbecue for us one evening. Owners produce their own olive oil and wine. Our children enjoyed the small pool 5x3,5m, table tennis and especially the boules/boccia cort in the evening.

Only disadvantage is the narrow, partially quiet uneven road to the property, which may be difficult for unexperienced drivers or deep/heavily loaded vehicles. Follow the instructions of the owners not GPS.

Delightful Tuscan base in stunning countryside

  • 5 of 5

This is a stunningly located place from which to explore North Tuscany. The surroundings are ravishing and there is wonderful walking as well as the opportunity to visit the famous Renaissance towns. The former barn and apartment are simply but well equipped and the swimming pool and garden are lovely to relax in. Giulio and Silvana are a welcoming but discreet presence who are there if you need them but never intrude and you feel you have the run of the outside space. They also provide delicious and plentiful home cooked meals on request. Highly recommended. The driving in the area is not for the feint hearted.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, we are glad you loved this place and the fabulous views! We have also tried the owners food and it is delicious! Giulio and Silvana would love to welcome you again. Note for future guests - it is only the last part of the journey (10 mins) which is up narrow and bendy roads - the rest is main road up from Pisa Thanks, Lorraine at Tuscan-retreats.com

Car: necessary

Located only 30 minutes from the walled medieaval City of Lucca, less than an hour from the beach and just 90 minutes from Florence, Podere Vitiana is situated 500M down an unmade road, narrow and steep in places (but fine in an ordinary car, but care with large vehicles), in a peaceful and panoramic position on the edge of the Orrido di Botri nature reserve (where it is possible to have a guided walk of the ‘canyon’).

The properties are situated in the midst of a working farm of 5.5 hectares, some of which is dedicated to the cultivation of vines, olives, fruit trees and vegetables, while the rest comprises luxuriant woodland full of all kinds of animals and numerous species of birds, including many birds of prey. This is a nature lovers’ paradise with plenty of trekking routes and is an ideal recipe for a totally peaceful holiday whilst still being close to tourist towns.

For local services, there is a bar and butchers in the village a 15 minute walk away, and just 3kms down to the main road, there are bars, bakery, pasticceria, pharmacy, restaurant, and train station for easy exploring. Supermarkets are a short drive away as well as a wider selection of restaurants.

This retreat is a perfect mix of peace and convenience.

NB- driveway is a little narrow (but fine in an ordinary car) and pretty steep
