2 bedroom House in Lynmouth - MODGE

Bedrooms 2
Property type house

About the property

This property is located close to the Devon/Somerset border with Exmoor National Park right on the doorstep offering miles of scenic walks and cycling routes. In fact one of the moor s best-loved pubs is within a mile s enjoyable walk from the property offering delicious home cooked food. The local beaches are some of the best in the region with the family friendly resorts of Croyde Woolacombe and Saunton Sands being located within a twenty minute drive. For those who want to explore the local heritage the National Trust owned Regency house at Arlington Court is within easy reach and for family fun why not pay a visit to Coombe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur park or Exmoor Zoo. On entering this detached property guests will find themselves in open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner where comfortable seating is arranged so that guests can warm up by the cosy woodburner and enjoy the Sky TV/DVD player. One of the sofas here is a sofa-bed which can sleep two extra guests and there is even a pool table providing fun entertainment in the evenings. The dining table sits between the lounge and kitchen area where guests will find everything they need to prepare their favourite meals including an oven and hob microwave dishwasher and washer/dryer. Three steps up lead through an archway from the lounge area to the first of two bedrooms an open-plan double room. A spiral staircase next to the bed leads down to the second bedroom where there is a second double bed and a set of bunk beds. The bathroom is also on this level with a shower over bath and WC. The real draw of this property is the 30 private indoor heated swimming pool which can be found in the pool house accessed directly from the living area so no need to traipse outside to get to the pool. Sun loungers line the sides of the pool and there is a separate hot tub as well as changing room and shower. Outside a patio area is located right outside the pool house with outdoor furniture and a BBQ beyond which there is a lawn garden to enjoy with a trampoline and even a pretty stream. There is ample parking available.

Extremely disappointing

The main attraction of the propriety is an indoor heated pool, and that is well attended to and fulfill the expectations. So is the beautiful garden. But both get completely overshadowed by the house itself. It is, dark, gloomy, with a very uncomfortable distribution, and crammed with old discarded furniture. The supposed double bed was very small and so old you literally sank in it, the other beds where crammed in a very small room in a kind of basement, where it was the only bathroom of the house (the other one, in the swimming pool, was practically useless). To access this basement you had either to go out through the garden or descend a narrow spiral staircase. That was not all: the sheets were too small for the bed, there were no towels (the owner provided some but as a special favor, saying they didn't provide them because of the swimming pool!?), and there were very few and very bad kitchenware. But all of this would have been bearable if the house would have been clean. My wife and I have been renting self-catering accommodations for fifteen years and we are aware that sometimes you don't find the places as clean as you would like them to be, but the state of this one was just not acceptable. I never saw such a filthy place in my life. In the kitchen there were dried rice stuck here a there, there were dried tomato rests, and stains of an unidentified repulsive nature. The sofas were dirty, and one of them completely covered by pet hair. All was dirty and sticky. In fact we did consider going to sleep in a inn near by and access to the house only to use the swimming pool. It is really a shame to rent a house in this condition.
