About the property

New to the holiday rental market for 2015 season – Rural townhouse in traditional white village location with superb panoramic views.

Our property, Casa Tierra (Highland House) is in the mountain village of Montejaque which is situated in the Sierra la Gralema National Park. Montejaque is a picturesque village with a variety of shops, restaurants and bars. The village has retained its authentic rural charm and is the perfect place for a “get away from it all” holiday. The historic town of Ronda, with its breath taking El Tajo gorge and bullring, is a 20 minute drive away.

Casa Tierra is a three bedroom modern townhouse which is part of a small complex on the edge of the village. This allows an uninterrupted panoramic view of the mountainside. The complex has a private communal pool and Jacuzzi and beautifully maintained gardens.

Our house is well equipped and includes air conditioning, WiFi and British Terrestrial TV. Downstairs there is a luxury fitted kitchen (hopefully containing most of items you are likely to need for your stay), a toilet/cloakroom, and a lounge/diner which gives access to a private terrace and the pool and gardens. Upstairs are the three bedrooms and family bathroom with an over bath shower. Two of the bedrooms are doubles (one of which can have either twin beds or a super king-size bed). The third bedroom is smaller and would be more suited to a child.

Due to our property being in a mountain village it is sadly unsuitable for people with walking difficulties.

Great base for walkers

This is our second year in Montejaque, but our first staying at John's house. The house has everything you could want in a rental with a great terrace to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. The welcome basket was much appreciated. Highly recommend it.

Absolutely Perfect

I'll keep this short as i don't want to rehash what all the other reviews have said, my wife and i have stayed in a lot of holiday properties and without doubt this is the best equipped, most comfortable we have ever stayed in, the house wants for nothing and we had a fantastic stay there, everything from payments, enquiries, administration to arrival, welcome pack and local management was spot on. Everything else about the rest of our holiday was great also but i'll spare the details as it's all been said previously. No doubting the quality of this acommodation, just book it!

Beautiful in every way

This apartment is amazing.

The views are stunning; it is exceptionally clean and there is everything you could possibly want from a house with large rooms, plenty of towels, comfy beds. The kitchen is well stocked and has china and plastic items for eating inside and outside. I am not sure the photos do it justice...

We always managed to park outside; the pool was never full although it did get busy at the weekends but we were staying for a Spanish heatwave in August! The neighbours are all friendly and it is a quiet complex at night.

Across the road there is a children's park and outdoor gym area which our kids loved.

The village is amazing - they have a bakery; numerous bars / cafes and restaurants; mini supermarkets, post office etc and stunning mountain scenary.

We would happily come and stay again - thank you.

Fabulous property, completely undersold, great service

John's house is a gem. Wonderfully located, beautifully appointed, spacious, and incredibly well stocked. It was like visiting a friend's place and they'd popped out momentarily. So many rentals are furnished poorly and lack basic amenities. John's on the other hand was ace.

We loved the large, usable terrace and pool area. So nice to have grass around the pool, our toddler loved it. In short, it was really easy to live here for a week.

John is obviously a modest chap as he completely undersells the house. What he offers is tremendous and fabulous value for money.

The village is small enough to walk around easily. It's quiet and friendly. There are a few restaurants, tapas bars, a bank and a couple of stores. Everything you need unless you're expecting buzzing nightlife! The views from the house to the mountains, complete with eagles soaring overhead are mesmerizing.

The locals were friendly, everyone says hello as you pass in the street. They were also hugely patient and generous when confronted with our terribly limited Spanish.

It is worth noting John's comment about hills. The village is built on a steep hill so anyone who struggles with that should look elsewhere.

We enjoyed day trips to Ronda (such an amazing road to get there) and Grazalema. There looked to be plenty of other options to try if we visit again.

We were warmly greeted by Isabel, the locally based manager and again when she assisted us once when needed during our stay. Nice to know you have someone local to call on should the need arise.

I truly hope I am able to return to Montejaque and if I did, I would book John's place without hesitation. I recommend you do too.

Excellent base for walking holiday

The house is light & airy, very well equipped and the terrace & pool catch plenty of sun until about 5pm. Parking is right outside the front door and there are shops in the village for essentials. The owners also left a welcome pack of some groceries as a starter, thank you. There is tv and some dvds but we never managed to get the satellite British tv working,(not a problem, too much else to do).

There are several bars and restaurants in the village offering tapas or full meals.

We had several walks direct from the house and a few that we started from Grazalema. If you are intending to go for day walks you will need to take your own maps. A local told us about a short walk up a mountain called Coros, just past Grazalema, starting from the Puerto de las palomas. There's a car parking area by the mirador and if you walk up the track on the car park side you get to look down over the valley and watch the vultures wheeling around beneath you....spectacular, take binoculars.

Ronda is worth a visit as is the nearby cave with ancient cave paintings. The dry reservoir on the road up out of Montejaque was a bit of a scramble but the damn and surroundings were astonishing.

If we decide to return to this area we would certainly be happy to stay here again.

Great House, Great Village, Great Holiday!

This was our fourth visit to the lovely village of Montejaque, and this was by far and away the best place that we have stayed - clean, well-stocked, spacious, and in one of the few places in the village where parking is easy! The pool is just perfect for lazy days with the family and never really seems to get busy.

The village has all you could need once you've stocked up in the supermarket in Ronda (although John and Mandy make sure there is a very welcome pack of bread, cheese, milk and wine on arrival), with some small food stores dotted around, two little bars in the main square and a good pizza/pasta restaurant nearby. Since our last visit, there are more waymarked trails around the village itself providing the opportunity for some evening walks post-tapas and pre-sangria. As ever, all of the folk in the village are very friendly and appreciate any effort to speak Spanish, especially when spoken by children.

Others have mentioned the proximity of Ronda, and we have been to Grazelema before, but this time we took in the amazing scenery of Zahara de la Sierra, another white village about 20 mins drive away, where there is a 16th Century lookout tower that stands above a turquoise blue lake. On the way back, call in at La Playita - a man-made beach on the shores of the lake with swimming, activities and barbecue areas.

All in all, a great place to stay - the consistent 5 star reviews don't lie. Thank you John and Mandy for letting us borrow your house, and we hope to return again in the not too distant future.
