Great house at the lakeside - unique location in the wonderful and authentic area of Marche!

  • 4 of 5

This was probably our 20th time in Italy, but first time in Marche.

The region, and especially the area around Amandola was really one of the best locations I've ever visited in Italy. Very authentic and unspoiled, so much friendliness and hospitality everywhere we came. It really felt like being in Italy, and not like being in some other European country (like if you drive 2 hours north to Rimini and nobody speaks Italian).

The local prices in the supermarcatos was cheap, because it was not tourist prices. We went out for dinner 3-4 times during our stay, and restaurant prices are also very reasonable. I can recommend the Tartufo festival in Amandola, if you happen to be there at the same time - great experience!

The house has the most beautiful panorama view over the San Rufino Lake and the outskirts of the Monte Sibilini National Park. The view changes during the day and over the week, so it feels like the landscape is changing all the time. Especially around the mountains of Sibilini.

We lived 8 adults and 1 baby in the house for 12 nights in July.

The host, Bertine, had advised us, that the house would be a bit 'cramped' with 8 adults, since 3 of the 9 beds were in a roof-top room, with low ceiling - and she was right, it was cramped. I would not recommend the house to more than 6 adults and 3 kids.

Since we were advised about this, I can't really complain. Next time we will probably rent the bigger house right beside, which has more space.

Also, make sure to bring your MTB/ Road bike - there is lots of nice mountains to climb and the traffic is not bad!

The only reason I'm giving the house "only" 4 stars, is because the beds and bedsheets didn't live up to our expectations (or at least, it was very different fromt what were used too). The beds were quite hard, especially the 3 in the roof-room, and it felt like the bed-sheets were made of polyester (or similar material), so it was really hard for the body to breathe during the night's heat.

On a side note, there had been a mistake with the cleaning lady, so the villa was not cleaned properly when we arrived. When we informed the host about this, she took action immediately and offered to clean the apartment while we were there. Since we had all of our stuff packed out, we declined the offer, and instead she offered us back the cleaning-fee (75 euros) which was a really nice gesture!

Overall great house, in a truly unique and wonderful location with a very serviceminded host!
