There are banks, shops, restaurants and bars as well as a doctors and a vets. The local bus stop (and ski bus stop) is 200 metres away
The house enjoys a sunny aspect on the edge of beautiful countryside and local walks and mountain bike trails can be enjoyed. There are about 10 steps up to the front door which leads into the front porch for coat and boot storage and then into the hallway leading to the stairs, bathroom, lounge/diner and kitchen.
The central heating is oil fired and there is a wood burner in the lounge for chilly evenings.
The kitchen is modern, large and sunny with sink and drainer, dish washer, double oven/grill, hob,fridge/freezer, and microwave. The kettle is electric as is the hob and oven.
The lounge enjoys a double aspect and is sunny and bright. It has three settees and table and chairs for dining. It also has patio doors leading to the sun terrace and then to the rear garden which is fenced and gated. There is a wood burner and logs provided for your use.

We fell in love with this area of Austria on our first visit in 2013. We had visited more northern areas of Austria previously and love the people, the mountains and lakes and we get mountain sickness when we return to our home in North Nottinghamshire as it is a lot flatter!!
The Austrians are so friendly and welcoming, speak English sometimes and we enjoy trying out our restricted German skills too.
The lakes in this area remind us of the English Lake district but with better weather and higher peaks. They are so attractive all year round, we enjoy walking and swimming in the Summer in the warm lake at Pressegersee. We would love to retire to this area eventually and as this is not so far away, we decided to let other people enjoy our lovingly refurbished home for the next few years at least.
Margaret and Mick Harrod purchased this house in 2013
Our first visit to this area was in 2013 when we were looking for an investment property in Austria. We felt an immediate attraction to the area and the lovely people that we met. We visited this property amongst several others but this one we fell in love with because of its situation close to the lovely town of Hermagor but also being on the edge of town so we can walk into pastures and woods just as easily as town itself! It is a lovely light and sunny property which was another selling point but having been stripped to bare walls by the sellers, was a blank canvas for us to put our mark on.
The Nassfeld ski ing area is the best kept secret in Europe, we had never heard of it before and couldnt believe our luck when we first visited.
We love the beautiful lakes too, outdoor swimming in the summer should not be missed and the summer climate is more Mediterranean than further North. We are also very near to the Italian and Slovenian border which influences the cuisine and I love Italian cooking. We also loved the idea of being so close to Venice and are planning my birthday trip to the City already.
The Nassfeld Ski area (7Km) is apparently in the top 10 in Europe but enjoyed by fewer tourists than the more Northern areas of Austria ,the ski area is a beautiful place to spend time whether you ski, board or hike or even to enjoy the apres ski and fresh mountain air at one of the many mountain cafes where prices are amongst the cheapest in Europe too!. The ski bus stops about 150 metres from our house or it is easy to drive there in the car too.
There is ice skating available at the local ice rink (need your own skates) and at the beautiful lake of Pressegersee where you can hire skates. In Summer at the local football stadium, my husband likes to watch the local teams play and in Winter there are ice hockey matches to watch too.
On a sunny day in winter or summer we love to sit out on the terrace and enjoy eating breakfast or lunch while looking at the mountains and the local bird life too. If you are lucky, there are Eagles to see and in the pastures and woods, deer are very common too. This place is paradise for us, we hope you enjoy it too.
No heating for 3 nights is too much. We request a reduction of the rent of 200 Euros.
Unfortunately we could not reach an agreement.
We could never reach the owners on the phone and administrator said he was not allowed to comment on the heating system.
We cannot recommed an apartment where the administrator agrees with the client but is restricted to act and says it is much better with other apartments in the area
We were 2 families with 3 children for the first time in Hermagor. All the rooms in the house have a good size so we had no problems with our stuff. Particularly important was for us that we have a good internet connection. The kitchen is as well good equipped with a dishwasher and all the necessary tools for cooking. The ski area Nassfeld is about 15 minutes away by car. We had a good skiing holidays at Nassfeld ( thanks to the snow guns )although there was no snow at the mountains in Austria at that time. We would recommend this house for a good holidays. Visited in December 2015
The house is based in hermagor and on first impression is very well presented, clean & cosy house. It is extremely spacious & plenty of storage space for all luggage & any equipment too.
The views front & side of the mountains are incredible.
If skiing, the ski bus is twice an hour & picks up 2 minutes walk from the house outside the POST OFFICE. It takes 15 minutes. The last bus is 5:00 back, but if you miss that, a later bus runs until a little later on in the evening but only drops off in the centre of Hermagor so you would have about a 10 minute walk back in that case.
Lovely restaurants & bars in the town. There is a vast amount of lakes & walks & sights to see. All incredible photographic opportunities!
Skiing is amazing with a full few mountains up to 2,000ft spanning Austria & Italy.
The food is great & you MUST have a Willi Schmitt or Bombardio alcoholic beverage to finish the day.
Well worth a visit all round & flights from Luton to Ljubliana are dirt cheap, and car hire is £40 approx for a week.
I stayed here with my family for a relaxing hiking break, having stayed here a previous winter to ski in the resort of Nassfeld. The location is brilliant to see all the Carinthia area can offer for views and hiking or biking. The log fire is the best feature in the house and the beds were particularily comfortable. The landlady and landlord were on the end of the phone when we needed them.
If you want a peaceful getaway immersed in Austrian culture this is a real gem. The only improvement I can think of is to have a bit more garden furniture, however when we wanted to Sun bath the lake down the rd was a treat!
We had a great time at this house in Hermagor. It's very cozy and made us feel at home right away. The kitchen and showers were nice and modern, the sunny terrace was lovely. Communication, ckeck-in and check-out were quick and easy. It's very close to the town center and not far from the ski resort Nassfeld.
Only tiny downside were the relatively narrow beds (1,40m) and the lack of big pots and sharp knives for cooking meals for 8 people.
Hopefully we can return sometime when there's some snow!
Our holiday home is located in Hermagor in the beautiful Gailtal Valley. Hermagor is a small town and the house is situated on the edge of town, it is a short walk to Hermagor where you can find several supermarkets, shops, bars, restaurants and cafes.
You can also walk into the local mountains, pastures and woodland.
The fabulous Nassfeld Ski area is at Tropolach, 9 km further along the E111 from Hermagor and is well signed. There is ample parking with a shuttle bus which transfers from the car parks to the base station. Equipment can be left at the Ski Store for a small fee. There is also a regular Ski Bus which is free to use with your Ski Pass. The bus stop is 100mtrs from the house.
There are other smaller family ski areas at Weissbriach and Weissensee, the ski bus will also take you to these areas.
In Summer, Pressegger See, a beautiful swimming lake is close by. There are beaches and childrens play areas at the lake as well as sailing ,windsurfing and fishing. The area also features many Walking and Mountain Biking trails, the ski lifts will take you up the mountain to enjoy higher level walks and rides.
Lake Weissensee is 21km away, you can drive or take the bus to this wonderful lake. In summer, you can swim or walk to enjoy this peaceful setting. Take the boat round the lake in Summer or go scuba diving with the local Paddi Centre. In Winter, Weissensee freezes over and in January, the European long distance Ice skating Championships are held. You can hire skates to join in the fun by skating round the track!
Austria welcomes motor bike enthusiasts, there are many fine routes to follow and a Harley Davison European Bike Festival in September at Lake Faaker See.
Close by, in Slovenia, it is possible to visit the Julian Alps, Kranjska Gora, Lakes Bled and Bohinj are well worth a visit whether it is summer or winter.
Venice, Italy and Salzburg, Austria are both easily accessible, being 2 hours away by car or take the train.
You can drive, 50km or the local train will take you to Villach, a fascinating old town with a beautiful new spa.
The Tourist Information Office in Hermagor is located at the Rathaus (Town hall) and they can supply other local information.
