A Great Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Really characterful, colourful, charming and comfortable cottage in Craster. The village is lovely, set in a perfect location for exploring the history and landscape of Northumberland. The Jolly Fisherman offers a great menu and has some interesting ales. If you like kippers, the smokery shop and restaurant is the place to go. The Shoreline Cafe is a delight - they even made a fabulous birthday cake for me! In short, then - I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet holiday with an adventurous slant...

  • 5 of 5

Craster is a lovely seaside village, with a pub/ restaurant and also a Fish Restaurant both very good, lots of places to visit and good walks from the cottage both north and south. Also a smokery in the village that have a shop that sells various smoked fish and other items.

The cottage is well equipped with absolutely everything that you need, making your stay very comfortable.

Delightful, homely, well appointed cottage in beautiful Craster - a perfect holiday home.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Artist's Cottage in Craster during a very cold, fairly wet week in April - our first visit to Northumberland. Everything that you needed on a cold week was available - good heating and two open fireplaces, good hot water and a boot room for wet coats, boots etc.

There was a very well chosen welcome pack for us when we arrived including a good bottle of wine along with other useful supplies.

On one warm day we sat in the lovely garden with a cup of tea and this would be a great cottage in good weather too.

What really made our stay was the fact that the cottage felt like a home - with all the books, paintings and interesting collections of ceramics and beach combing finds etc. So even staying in was a pleasure.

Craster is a perfect little holiday destination with its cottages, harbour, lobster pots and Craster Kippers smokehouse - with the rather romantic looking Dunstanburgh Castle ruins in the distance. There are two excellent places to eat - the pub and the fish restaurant - both with lovely sea views. And the Shoreline cafe for breakfasts, lunches, cream teas and snacks and coffee - always welcoming especially after a long walk. They stock postcards/gifts too.

Nearby we visited the castle, walked both north and south along the coast, Barter Books at Alnwick, Alnwick Garden, Bailiff Museum Alnwick, Cragside, Holy Island and Seahouses. We didn't manage a wildlife/puffin spotting boat trip to the Farne Islands because of the weather - next time hopefully.

We loved Artist's Cottage and Craster - fantastic!

There is also the Craster Fish Restaurant, part of Robson's Smokehouse overlooking the harbour and home of the famous Craster Kippers.

Set within the Northumberland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there are fabulous coastal walks from the doorstep to the south and north which are regularly featured in magazine articles noting their isolation and the dramatic scenery dominated by the evocative ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle.

?Craster is close to a number of places of interest including the magnificent Alnwick Castle and Garden, the pretty village of Bamburgh, majestic ruins of Dunstanburgh and Warkworth Castles, wonderful Howick Hall and Gardens.
