About Betsy Cameron

I am a secondary English teacher by training, a free-lance writer and mum to 3 young adults.

Betsy Cameron purchased this house in 2006

Why Betsy Cameron chose County Donegal

We have lived in many parts of the world but Donegal is our favourite! Our kids grew up in Donegal and we have fond memories of exploring the beautiful coastline and enjoying the warm welcome that awaits you wherever you go.

What makes this house unique

Fairview House enjoys a lovely, peaceful location with relaxing views of Lough Foyle. It is a very convenient base for exploring all of the beauty of Inishowen peninsula and is equally handy to the vibrant city of Derry, Northern Ireland's second city and 2013 UK City of Culture. There is the convenience of free wifi at Fairview House, which is still not widely available in this part of the world.

Beautiful Spacious House

  • 5 of 5

Great House for a large family, kids playroom was a god send, very clean and spacious house, everything needed was at hand. Views were beautiful and house was in a great location for travelling around. Nearby indoor play center for kids was great for the rainy days. plenty of restaurants in the location. Betsy was great to deal with and I would recommend this house to anyone

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words! It was a pleasure to welcome your family to Fairview House. Leisureland is a wonderful place for small children and is so handy to the house. I'm glad the restaurant scene has picked up again--the economy was hit hard in those difficult years, but you can't keep Donegal people down, and the talented, hard working people in the hospitality sector are second to none! Do make plans to come again!

fantastic family home

  • 5 of 5

my family and I (6 adults and 6 children ) have just come back very reluctantly from Fairview house. besides being very spacious and well laid out the house has everything you need to make a fantastic holiday no matter what the weather is like. The childrens ages ranged from 5 months to 11 and they were all extremely happy. The out door toys are fantastic too. Places to visit are leisureland, Lurgybrack open farm(take a right turn at muff to go the short way) and shrove beach(culdaff beach is lovely too) I would definitely recommend this holiday home and we all cant wait to get back.

Owner's Response: Sounds like this family had a holiday to remember--I am so glad that Fairview House was a part of it! Culdaff Beach is one of my family's favourites--lovely views, great walks and that fantastic playground in the sand dunes. We've spent many a happy day there ourselves. I'd love to welcome you back whenever you get the chance, and Tish and Myriam and I really appreciate what great care you took of the house. Thank you!

Brilliant family escape

  • 5 of 5

This house was great for families. The weather wasn't great for our weekend away but there was so much for the kids to do in the house. They were kept amused with toys, bikes, swings and a slide. For the grown ups the pool table was great. The decor was lovely and the house was very clean. Would definitely return.

Great Location, Spacious House

  • 5 of 5

We are a party of 7 adults and a baby. This house was perfect for our stay. We especially loved the playroom upstairs. The baby was having a blash with all of the toys supplied. The kitchen is large and comfortable and the bathrooms and bedrooms as well. We did not visit the local pub but visited places in Moville and Muff. The house was a great location to visit both Derry and Greencastle, where we could pick up the ferry for Northern Ireland attractions. Betsy and her local crew were as gracious as could be, despite our delay in arriving (due to a flat tire and simply trying to travel with 8 people). Would definately recommend this house.

Owner's Response: I'm delighted that the house met everyone's requirements and was a comfortable base for visiting the many fantastic attractions in the area, both in Donegal and Northern Ireland. We put in a new kitchen over the quiet period in January of this year and, with a different lay-out and a new 8-seater table, we managed to create better space to enjoy being together as well as better storage for groceries. It's lovely that this was noticed and appreciated! This extended family coped with their unexpected delays very well, and left the house in great condition. I would love to welcome them back another time!

Five minutes peace!

  • 5 of 5

If you are used to the fast pace of family life - sometimes all you need is five minutes of uninterrupted peace and quiet!!! Over a cold wintry weekend our two families enjoyed the outdoors and the indoors. The children enjoyed exploring their vast playroom while the adults enjoyed the benefits of a cosy fire and comfy seating in the living room. The spacious layout of Fairview House allowed us all time to enjoy our very own peace and quiet and we never felt as if we were living on top of each other. The facilities are fantastic and if you are used to carrying everything but the kitchen sink, think again - Betsy the owner has pretty much thought of everything!

A great space in a great place!

Great House

  • 5 of 5

I spent a weekend in this house at the end of november with my family of ten and there was space a plenty. It was spotlessly clean. We met the owner on arrival who was extremely friendly and helpful and showed us round the house etc.It was very easy to find and had everything supplied. The beds were comfortable and warm and the grandchildren adored the games room not to mention the dad's playing snooker. With the children in bed and us " big ones" sitting in front of an open fire was delightful. Just wish we could have stayed longer.I would have no hesitation in recommending this house.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad this lovely extended family enjoyed a wonderful weekend together! They were able to visit one of Inishowen's most magical Christmas destinations, Santa's Island at Doagh Island, which seems to have gone down a treat. The open fire at Fairview House is a warm and welcoming place to come back to when you have finished your exploring, and I'm delighted this family were able to take away some wonderful memories. Thank you very much for your kind words!

Car: necessary

Fairview House is close to several world-class golf courses, all of which would make a good day trip out: Ballyliffen on the west side of Inishowen, Castlerock and Royal Portrush over across into Northern Ireland as well as several excellent local golf courses in Greencastle, Derry and a 9 hole course at the Redcastle Hotel, which is a 2 or 3 minute drive away. You will be spoiled for choice!

Inishowen is full of spectacular beaches! The beautiful Blue Flag beach at Culdaff, complete with playground in the sand dunes, is a 15 minute drive away. Shroove and Kinnegoe Bay are a similar distance away. Five Finger Strand near Malin and Malin Head, Ireland's most northerly point, are not to be missed and are about a 30 minute drive away.

A car is essential in this part of rural Ireland. Fairview House is a 15 minute drive from the Greencastle-Magilligan ferry and a 40 minute drive from City of Derry airport. It is a 90 minute drive from Belfast International Airport and a 2 hour drive from the Belfast ferry port. It is 3 and 1/2 hour drive from Dublin airport.

Fairview House is a 10 minute drive away from Moville, a lovely town with a coastal walking path to Greencastle, a playground, sea kayaking, shops and pubs. McGrory's pub in Culdaff, about 15 minutes away, is not to be missed, both for its excellent food and as a top-notch music venue. The historical walled city of Derry, awarded the prestigious UK City of Culture 2013, is about 15 minutes away and offers music, shows, dining and shopping as well as walking and bus tours.

Swimming and spa pampering are available at the nearby Redcastle Hotel. There is a very interesting local history museum at Doagh Island, which is well worth a visit. From Buncrana, you can take the ferry across to Rathmullan and explore that part of Donegal. Across Lough Foyle into Northern Ireland, the Giant's Causeway (a World Heritage Site) the famous Bushmills Distillery and the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge make a fantastic day out from Fairview House. Easily accessible to both Derry and Letterkenny, you can sample fine dining and night life in both cities and visit museums and galleries. Check out the events at the Millenium Forum in Derry for music and drama. Explore all of the beautiful northwest of Ireland, where there's history to discover, areas of outstanding natural beauty to enjoy and a culture that is just about as warm and welcoming as they come.

Fairview House is a non-smoking home, and due to allergies, is not suitable

for pets.
