A chic 3 storey town house over-looking the central historic square of the lovely village of St Genis Des Fontaines. The house is located in the middle of the village, in a residential area. Local boulangerie, bar and deli are just around the corner, other stores, bank, pharmacy, local restaurant are all within a short walking distance. A twice weekly market is held in the square. The village is only 15 mins drive from the beach, 20 mins from the picturesque fishing village of Collioure or the bohemian town of Ceret near the Spanish border. Surrounded by vineyards and orchards, in the Rousillion plain with good mountain views in the distance.
Furnished to a high standard with all modern amenities, this a very comfortable house. The entrance hall leads to a ground floor double bedroom with en suite shower room and WC. A traditional stone staircase leads to the large open-plan first floor encompassing lounge, dining and kitchen areas. Stunning French windows across the entire back wall lead onto a large sun terrace which over-looks the beautiful private garden and heated pool. There are 3 further bedrooms on the top floor. The master bedroom with en suite, opens onto a private balcony enjoying stunning views of the Alberes mountains, with a table and 2 chairs creating the perfect breakfast spot. There is another double bedroom and further twin bedroom with bunk beds and a truckle bed, these two rooms share a family bathroom. We provide tennis racquets to use in the tennis courts across from the house.
A traditional village house, with a mix of contemporary modern and vintage French styling.
Engineer and Fashion Director from North London, we bought and fully renovated this house. We have local English connections in the area and one of our friends is the property manager for us when we are back in England.
Anita Abram ( property manager) purchased this house in 2008
We had been looking for a village house in the South of France for some time.
We bought in this area because it feels more rustic and relaxed than the Cote D'Azur but offers all the benefits of a near coastal location, close to the mountains.
In the winter you can reach the ski slopes door to door in under 2 hours.
The proximity to Spain is one other important benefit.
With its open aspect over-looking the historic village square to the front and with its beautiful garden and mountain views at the back we knew we had found exactly what we had been looking for.
Lovely village house. We enjoyed it very much. It has all the assets to enjoy great family holidays. Thank you to Anita & Ron for their nice welcoming and support.
Kindest regards S&A and M,S&A (Zurich)
This lovely, spacious town house had everything we needed... including cool-box, BBQ, beach games, wifi and satellite TV. Ron and Anita made us feel very welcome and met us on arrival and explained everything we needed to know about the house and the local area. Throughout our stay they remained on hand (living a few doors along) to help with questions we had. All the bedrooms are a good size, and we liked the large open plan living area on the middle floor comprising kitchen, dining area and lounge. The back garden has a good size decking with plenty of loungers and a large seating area where we had a few evening barbecues. Our daughter loved the good size pool and sent most of the warm evenings pretending she was a mermaid! Many thanks to Anita and Ron for making us welcome and especially for the lovely hand painted card, which is now framed providing an abiding memory of a lovely holiday. Matt, Kate and Anna.
We arrived to a warm welcome from Ron & Anita who quickly explained all we needed to know about the house, garden, pool and tips on local area (they stay nearby so not intrusive but are available if need be - a magnificent thunderstorm knocked out the TV and Ron came round to fix, otherwise we might have missed a crucial Andy Murray Wimbledon victory!)
The house was brilliant - very comfortable and tons of room for 5 of us. The decor is clean and fresh, the kitchen very well equipped and the outside space great for eating, relaxing and spending time in the pool or simply lounging/reading. The garden and pool are well maintained.
The village is typical of area and has all you need by way of shops, bars, couple of restaurants, tennis courts (allowed us to join for a week and use facilities), park for boules etc. This is a favourite area of ours - we have stayed nearby many times to enjoy the fantastic beaches, mountain walks & trails and quaint villages, and are now happy to have added St Genis Des Fontaines to our 'must go back' list of holiday destinations.
We (family, 3 teens) enjoyed our stay in St Genis. It is well located in the middle of the village. We enjoyed tennis courts that can be rented nearby. Great welcome and support from the tenants who live in the same street.
We spent two weeks in this beautiful house and were more than pleased. The house has everything you need for a perfect time with the family. The garden is very nice as well and the pool was perfect for our 9 year old son and us to enjoy the weather. The bakery need by has very good croissants and baguettes and there is everything you may need in this lovely village. Thanks to Anita and Ron, the managers, who did everything so lovely and gave us good tipps for the area. We would definitely come again!
St Genis is a charming French village. It has a central historical area, with a market square where our house is located. St Genis is surrounded by open countryside with mountain views in the distance. All the necessary local amenities are just a short walk from the house. Argeles beach, voted one of the best in France is only 10k away. At the top end of the Argeles beach away from the marina is the quieter Le Racou beach and beach village hamlet, one of our favourites.
Argeles resort features all you could want in terms of adventure for kids.
Collioure a beautiful sea fishing village, the 'St Tropez' of the area is a must-see, only 20 mins drive.
Ceret on the way to the Spanish border is also only 20 mins drive away. It is a typical catalan town, with a museum of modern art in the centre of the Bohemian village, full of cafes and restaurants.
On the way to Ceret the Lac de St Jean is an alternative to the beach, with lots to do, including inflatables, pedaloes, tree climbing and an amazing zip wire over the lake. Finish the day at the restaurant on the lake.
Spain, with the beautiful resorts on the Costa Brava is just 1 hour away.
Alternatively you can visit the historic city of Girona in just 1 hour.
