Sitting directly on a small skiff of sandy beach, our place offers ocean views as far as the eye can see. But the beachfront location is just one of the many desirable features. Outside, the large beachfront lanai is the perfect place to hang out and relax, and its gate leads directly onto the sand. Tables, chairs, chaise lounges, two-person hammock and a BBQ grill make it a tough place to leave!

Notable amenities: two free off-street parking spaces, W/D, WiFi, A/C in all three bedrooms, 40" flat-panels TVs in all three bedrooms and both living areas, two tandem kayaks, snorkel gear, boogie boards, Graco Pack 'n Play.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Two of us are from Nova Scotia, two from Florida and one from Lake Louise, Canada. Love the laidback life on the north shore - wind, waves, mountains, turtles, ohana - nothing better than that. The windward side is the place for us. Some of us here many times since 1965, some of us here for the first time. All would come back. Truly an aloha house.

Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5

We spent 8 days on Oahu with my two daughters and son-in-laws. Beautiful Ocean and Sunrise views. House and outside furniture are worn a little, but everything is petty much as advertised. We only had two concerns, first, the room AC units were loud, second was the parking, house is on a blind curve. pulling out is quite difficult. We had our son-in-law go across the street and watch traffic and wave us out when safe. Then I would have to come back and get him. This is the only safe way to do it. We were almost hit once before doing this. But this problem is out of the home owners control. We had a Great Time. I don't believe you will be disappointed.

Great place to stay away from the crowds

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from 9 nights at this property. We really enjoyed and appreciated the house. We are a family of 5, that includes 3 teenage sons. Plenty of room for us all to spread out. We had 2 boys downstairs that had their own bedroom, living room and bathroom. It's like an apartment downstairs, ideal, for our 2 oldest kids. The youngest had his own room and bathroom upstairs, and we enjoyed the master suite & bath, also upstairs. Nice size living room, great balcony to sit out on each morning & night. The house has everything, inside and toys for outside. We used the boogie boards and snorkel masks every day. Kitchen is well stocked with supplies. Take the reusable bags that are in the pantry when going to the grocery store!! The house is on the main road, and on a bend as others have mentioned, so you do need to be very careful when pulling out of driveway. We would pull in sideways, and back the car in to angle it well for departure, as it is hard to see those coming around the bend and they can drive fast. If you are considering spending anytime in the city of Honolulu, it can take an hour each way to the house and back. It is a pretty drive, but we made the drive about 6-8 times. Which was to much, we should have stayed in Honolulu a few days before going north to stay. About 20-35 minutes to North Shore areas, depending on traffic. The Kame Hwy is a pretty drive though, so it really never bothered us much. The house description said no A/C in some areas, we never felt like that was the case. A few times, we had to turn the A/C completely off because it got "cold". We saw the resident seal a few days while we were there. Read the book inside the house, it gives good tips on where to go for groceries (we read it after we went to one store, should have read the book first), also gave a few restaurants from their book a try. All was good! Thanks for letting us stay!!

GREAT PLACE

  • 5 of 5

OUT OF THE WAY ON THE NORTH EAST COAST BUT DEFINITELY BEST ON THE ISLAND. EASY DRIVE TO HONOLULU OR THE NORTH SHORE. GREAT TO COME BACK TO AFTER A LONG DAY EXPLORING THE ISLAND, COMFORTABLE SLEEPING EXCEPT ON THE TWIN BEDS THE WERE LIKE CARDBOARD MY SON SAID. CLOSE TO PCC FOR A GREAT LUAU BUT THE FOOD WAS SO SO. PARKING WAS A LITTLE TIGHT, WE HAD A EXPEDITION AND HAD TO PLAN OUR PARKING DIRECTION. TV IN THE LIVING ROOM WAS REALLY FUZZY. A LITTLE MORE ATTENTION TO THE SLIGHTLY MUSTY SMELL IN THE PLACE WHEN WE ARRIVED WOULD HAVE HELPED BUT OVERALL I WOULD RENT HERE AGAIN. P.S. TAKE A WALK AROUND THE STREETS WHERE THE LOCALS LIVE, EVERYONE WAS NICE WE TALKED TO. FELT VERY SECURE THERE. THE BEACH IS RIGHT THERE!!!

Pros vs Cons

  • 4 of 5

Pros:

1: Home was absolutely incredible!

2: The property manager was a delight to work with and made sure that we had everything we needed.

3: Everything we requested was taken care of in advance.

4: The house is RIGHT on the beach with an incredible view just as the pictures indicate.

5: Home was clean and VERY spacious.

Cons:

1: Parking was a problem. The rear of the car was literally inches from the street with the front inches from the garage door. We would send someone across the road to indicate when both lanes were clear before backing onto the highway.

2: This area has a homeless issue. We saw some on the beach walking past the house.

This home and location is awesome for families with grown children. I WOULD NOT recommend it for families with young children. That is not the fault of the property management or owner! The property is incredible. It's just a location issue.

Nice Property

  • 3 of 5

Property was nice and it was nice to listen to the waves right outside the door. We think our family with teenagers would have enjoyed it more if we had stayed somewhere that was closer/easier access to people, stores, and activities and also off of the main highway.

A Perfect Slice of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

It’s hard to imagine how this property could have been better. The house was clean, well-equipped, and spacious. We had the time of our life, just feet from the ocean. The furniture is comfortable and the kitchen is modern. There were lots of beach and water toys to keep our family busy for hours. The parking is a little tricky at first, but we figured it out. The location is close to the Polynesian Cultural Center and BYU Hawaii. We would definitely return.

Car: necessary

Hau'ula and the surrounding area is often likened to 'old Hawaii,' still representing what Hawaii once was. Instead of large malls and chain restaurants (i.e. Waikiki), the area has family-owned gift shops, unique little restaurants, and a pace of life that many envision when planning their Hawaii trips.

Highlights of the area:

(1) five minute drive to the Polynesian Cultural Center, Hawaii's #1 tourist attraction

(2) many great hikes (some with waterfalls) in the mountains directly behind the place

(3) lush green foliage and mountainsides, drawing comparisons with Maui

(4) good, local people offering a glimpse into 'true' Hawaii living: a truly authentic Hawaiian experience

(5) twelve minute drive to Turtle Bay Resort, and their golf courses, restaurants, bars, massages, helicopter rides, etc.

(6) minutes to good surfing spots, and only about 20 minutes to famous big-wave spots like Pipeline and Sunset Beach

(7) quiet, tranquil, peaceful...the best way to describe Hau'ula!

Other Activities: Island's best hiking in the mountains adjacent to the house.
