Overview

About the property

Stylishly furnished, contemporary London mews house, close to everything...

London is a very big city so this house, less than a minute off the everything-you-could-want Clapham High Street and two minutes to the underground station, is about as well connected to everything in London as you can get.

The house itself is set around a courtyard in a private development within a small converted Victorian school building and is very spacious, a bit loft style, with 2 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. A very chic contemporary mews house with excellent wifi and a very comfy feel.

The downstairs is an open planned living/kitchen area with an electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher and washing machine in the open planned kitchen. A large living and dining space with amble seating for both dinning and relaxing which then opens onto a private garden area. Upstairs are 2 double bedrooms, one with en-suite shower room plus balcony and the main bathroom with bath and shower. This home is beautifully and stylishly furnished & decorated with wooden floors downstairs and carpet upstairs, it is ideal for anything from a few nights to longer term. Smart TV and cable make nights in a dream and the kitchen is able to deliver anything from a snack to a three course meal with the array of supermarkets and speciality shops on hand. Towels and bed linen are provided with a weekly maid service if required.

Clapham is one of London's villages encapsulating everything you need, from supermarkets, cinema, gym, bars and restaurants on the door step of the house plus the wide open spaces of the common. Only two minutes or so walk to the Northern line at Clapham North and then less then ten minutes to the West End or City. Buckingham Palace is few tube stops as is Harrods, Leicester Square and Covent Garden are straight up the Northern line, it's just too easy!

Perfectly placed, you will find it very difficult to find a property set so close to everything from transport links to shops, cinemas, a gym, a large park, children's play grounds and paddling pools on the common, covering pretty much all your local requirements. In a beautiful and unique setting, very private and secure, you'll never want for anywhere else to stay in London.

About Marc Field

Lived all over the world but have always had a home in London since Uni and now I'm settled in Australia I've more time to come back to the UK regularly. Preferring to stay in my own place then a hotel I've changed from long terms tenants to holiday lets.

The house is fully furnished with I everything I may need when I staying in London on either business or pleasure. Love to cook, love a quiet night in but I'm a keen gym goer and need somewhere with places I can run, swim and work out close by. Anything you need to know please let me know.

Marc Field purchased this house in 1999

Why Marc Field chose England

As you'll see when you stay there, it's fantastically located, to be honest if you look at maps of places available to transport hubs I'm one of the best located there is. Two minutes to the Northern line which is then 10-15 minutes either to the City or the West End. Easy for Twickenham or the Oval and easier for the trendy nightlife of Clapham and south London.

What makes this house unique

Well located but off the street in a small private courtyard development. The house and courtyard setting has a very European feel to it, very safe, very secure and very private. I've started to move some of my aboriginal paintings to the house to remind me of Australia whilst I'm here and I love the warmth they give the place as well as complimenting some of the 17/18th century architectural prints I also collect. I think the house has a great feel to it, it feels like a home...

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just thought I'd drop you a quick message to say what a fantastic time we had in London! The house is fabulous, so clean and tidy on arrival! Brilliant location too! Thank you so much for letting us stay, we will certainly be returning next year!

Booked for a long weekend in London and delighted with the contact from Marc and the quality of his property. Excellent local amenities and a tube station just minutes away. Hope we can stay again.

We enjoyed our stay and enjoyed being close to many restaurants.

  • 4 of 5

The property was clean and well kept and we felt comfortable and safe. Our location allowed us to go to the Wimbledon tennis championship by taxi. We came home quite late from The Wimbledon Championship and were happy to find restaurants still open. There is a set of stairs to climb to the bedrooms. It was very close to the tube station as well. We would definitely stay here again.

The property was clean and everything you would need was there.

  • 5 of 5

The house is about a 5-7 minute walk to Clapham North, the Northern Line. It takes between 25-35 minutes to get to the sites, only about 15 to the Theatre District. For those who have not traveled in London, I will note that the Tube is intense in rush hour. With that said, uber was fabulous when it was too far of a walk or the thought of the tube was overwhelming. The area has plenty of grocery stores and restaurants.

Great Location for London Visit

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is in a great location. The Tube stop is 2 minutes walk. London's Tube system is really great, we learned it in a half a day (after making a couple mistakes, no big deal). For the cost savings of not staying near city center, the 30 minute commute into the tourist areas was a great trade off.

Sainsbury grocery is right across the street and up a block. The Clapham neighborhood is great, loved the diversity and vibrancy. Families with little kids, eccentrically dressed individuals, we saw it all.

Despite the weekend crowds, the apartment is tucked away in a courtyard and you don't really hear any noise. We didn't meet the neighbors but often co-existed w/ them out in the semi-open courtyard and everyone seemed friendly.

Never felt unsafe at anytime of the day (had no familiarity w/ London neighborhoods prior to visiting). We were with two teenage girls (family of four) and were perfectly comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

The patio w/ table off the living room was great; we lucked out and had no rain. It was kind of hot out, for London, but once we opened up the windows at the end of the day, it was not too hot to sleep. There are plenty of fans (no air conditioning in the traditional (U.S.) sense.

The apartment itself is really nice, for London I really thought it was quite spacious. Plenty of closet space, having two full bathrooms great, and the first floor (living room, kitchen, eating area) are plenty big. Having washer was great, didn't have to bring many clothes. Just bring some hangers to dry your laundry.

The owner was great to deal with, everything was as stated, and it was great to have a local greeter who showed us the lay of the land and was there when she said she would be (we communicated via e mail).

The only issue we had was our adaptor plugs (and this is not an issue w/ the apartment - just a tip for future tenants) - which were multi-style (eg supports all types, Great Britain, Italy, U.S, all of which have different plug styles). They did not work, for whatever reason, in the outlets. After a minor panic, we found an electronics store right next door and they

had single U.S. to U.K. adaptors (which worked fine). Just make sure you have U.K. only adaptors and should be fine.

The apartment was very clean, and bright and modern. We're not picky people but this was quite a nice place with good appliances, no plumbing issues, etc. Hope to return to London someday and stay here again!

Owner's Response: Robin - thank you so much for the review and so glad you all had such a great stay! I love it when someone else loves the vibrancy and also the location of Clapham for the rest of London. I'll also add the courtyard setting really makes the house very unique and set in a bit of an oasis to the world outside. Welcome back at anytime! Very best, Marc

Comfortable, immaculate, perfect for two adults

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location for people who want to use the Underground, three or five blocks to two Clapham Northern line entrances. Easy access to other lines. Interesting neighborhood. Lots of modest places nearby for a meal.

Fully equipped kitchen. Two full bathrooms and two bedrooms, all upstairs. We did not use free standing air conditioners, so cannot report on them. Two of three fans working.

Private patio with doors off living area; table and four chairs.

Be sure to compare prices between cabs, Uber and other transportation.

With LITTLE OR NO baggage, it should be an easy passage from Gatwick or Heathrow on public transportation.

Helpful, accessible owner and employee, who met us on arrival and, again on departure, and once when needed, in between.
