The mobile home is set beside a studio property in a little garden in idyllic rural surroundings. The garden has Barbeque facilities and table and chairs. All this in area of outstanding natural beauty. At night all you can hear the owls hooting. Perfect for walkers or cyclists.

We have a menagerie of friendly domestic pets - geese, horses, sheep, not forgetting Jenny the very friendly whippet who loves visitors. You are very welcome to enjoy them, but at the same time respect their 'space'.

Dogs are not generally permitted in this caravan but if you have a small and really well behaved little dog we may make an exception so please discuss this with us. There would be an extra charge of £3 per night or by arrangement for a longer stay..

There is a surcharge of £7.50 for each guest over two people. However, there is no charge for children under 3 yrs, so when booking dont count them as an extra guest. But please let me know in your online request.

Please also be aware that Wi-fi is free to guests and is pretty reliable. But although we will do our best to ensure internet connection, we cannot guarantee unbroken access in this rural area. Also, mobile phone signal is not available actually in the caravan but can be accessed with wi-fi calling if you have a smart phone.

Guests who prefer to bring their own linen and towels,, please let me know and I will give you a £10.00 discount((applicable for min three night stays)

Nb. I prefer a minimum of a three day stay, but will take two days for a £10 supplement for bed linen,(£15 for use of two beds). payable when you arrive. Or you can bring your own. Please bring own towels for a 2 day stay. But I will always bail you out if you forget!

About Maxine Stirk

I am a slightly overweight retired horsey lady who has educated and trained and sold young 'National Hunt' racehorses for many years. Last year I took up cycling in homage to the Tour de France in Yorkshire. But I didnt win a prize. I am now a granny and have more ponies, mares and foal than big horses about the farm. The main equine character here is Tweedle, a shetland pony who is sure to be a hit with a small child.

I live with my husband Anthony who is a retired vet. He looks a bit daunting at times but is fine if you are brave enough to take him on. A bit like the pony really...

We also live with a selection of handsome geese, 2 cats and Floss the ageing springer spaniel who is loved by all who make her aquaintence. But you may have to throw her out of the caravan as she has a tendency to gatecrash if she likes the look of you. And the cats are the same, so be tough.

We started letting the caravan last year for a bit of extra income and have really enjoyed having interested, interesting and friendly guests to stay..

Maxine Stirk purchased this mobile home in 2006

Why Maxine Stirk chose Ripon

We bought Buck House Farm in 2006. It had been a dairy farm but had run into dreadful disrepair. We developed it as a training yard for our young National Hunt horses and generally set about restoring it as a beautifully sited and attractive family home.

I now do a lot less with the racehorses horses but enjoy having a variety of animals abut the place for fun and for the table. We have undertaken some welfare work on abused ponies, so it is possible you may see some recuperating patients in the field. So long as we are fit and reasonably healthy we intend staying on at this lovely place and entertaining holiday visitors in Summer.

What makes this mobile home unique

Buck House is set in a sheltered and peaceful hollow down a quiet country lane, and yet is only minutes from a busy private and nestled in woodland with a river bordering its south side. The approach to it is down a private farm road and driving down to it you feel as if you are entering a magical place situated away from the real World,

The views are just lovely and you can hear the owls at night if you sit outside enjoying the night sky. We like its privacy but never feel isolated and have neighbours very near by but not overlooking us.

Lovely location and charming owner to go with a quaint caravan which was warm and comfortable.

  • 4 of 5

Apart from arriving there following the SatNav, please check directions carefully for your own safety, the drive to the caravan was beautiful.

The layout and fittings of the caravan was just what we needed. I felt we didn't make the most of our time there and would love to revisit to explore more of the local areas. So peaceful.

Unfortunately due to modern technology my dogs and child weren't acknowledged and came as a shock to the owner. While the caravan is dog friendly, my two border collies were given alternative accommodation in kennels in the barn for one night before I left them at friends. This might not suit all dogs and I would recommend others check with the owners directly to avoid any misunderstanding for the future.

The owner, Maxine and her family were so accommodating and offered lots of support, even with my flat tyre. And my child was made most welcome and if we'd more time would have loved playing with Maxine's grandchildren.

I would definitely recommend this lovely caravan as a base for people, as long as it's not when I want to return.

Owner's Response: thankyou for such a nice review Jane. It was my fault I didnt realise about your dogs as my i-pad only showed half your email! You were a lovely and considerate guest, (thankyou for the money you left for the dogs - it went to the Red Cross). Please come again one day with Georgia and the dogs when you have a little more time to enjoy. Good luck to both of you. We think Georgia is a very lucky little girl. best wishes Maxine and Anthony.

Quaint old style caravan. The environment & area is beautiful & it is so peaceful. The caravan is an older style but has everything you need & was clean and tidy.

Maxine was very hospitable & helpful & was on hand to give advice & suggest areas to visit. Our daughter loved the interaction with all the animals and we could have happily stayed all week.

We will definitely return for another visit 😊.

Lovely location and hospitality.

  • 4 of 5

I very lovely place to stay in terms of a very charming landlady.

Perfect location for exploring north Yorkshire.

So many places to see and thing to do.

The accommodation could get quite chilly at times. But to be expected in winter and adequate heating.

I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap holiday or a cheap between houses temporary accommodation.

Thank you Maxine for making me feel so welcome and looked after.
