East Galliford Cottage is one of a pair of traditional Exmoor cottages built of stone in the lovely village of Winsford. It is situated off a quiet lane which leads to the village Church. The cottage is south facing and in a sunny sheltered position above the main part of the village, only a minute's walk from the village green. From the cottage and garden, there are wonderful views of the village with farmland and the wooded hillsides of the Exe Valley beyond. The cottage sleeps up to 6 guests in three bedrooms.
The centre of Winsford is just a short stroll; here you'll find the famous 12th century thatched Royal Oak Inn, which serves great food and is family and dog friendly. The Bridge Cottage Tearoom serves delicious home-made cakes, cream teas, cooked breakfasts and Sunday lunches. A small shop is run from the Royal Oak pub selling milk, bread and some other basic supplies. There is also a village green with swings and a stream.
Wheddon Cross is approximately 4 miles from Winsford, this is a small village with a mini-supermarket (open 7 am to 8 pm), post office, ATM and petrol station. Dulverton is around 7 miles away, a small town known as the southern gateway to Exmoor; Dulverton also has a mini-supermarket plus a butchers, post office, some lovely restaurants and independent shops.
Minehead is the main town in West Somerset, approximately 14 miles from Winford. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco and Morrisons are both situated on the outskirts of the town), most major high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town.
